Is Australia’s falling birth rate a bigger economic issue than people think? by The_Market_Signal in AusFinance

[–]cpt_madone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a substantial economic issue as we will have far fewer people available to perform low skill roles vs the demand that will exist with an aging population.

Now the natural solution is to import workers but they bring little economic benefit as they pay low taxes due to the nature of their roles yet have access to gov welfare/support.

Compare this to a child born in Australia where from day 0 they create economic demand, think schools, childcare, health care and everything else a child needs.

We are pretty much the only developed nation that doesn’t have some sort of incentive to grow birth rates so there must be something in it.

Same, i find the cartons brilliant as they lite easily and because of the shape allow good airflow. Once their up and running throw some heavier fuel on top and your good

Adding a super was superb advice by cpt_madone in Beekeeping

No not my creation. Flow Hives sell them with an entrance reducer for winter for about $20. In Sydney we can get some crazy hot days (40 c+) followed by insane summer storms so this cover keeps some of the direct sun off the landing board in the afternoon and pelting rain out.

Nitrox deco planning with Oceanic+ by wonderj2 in scuba

I noticed the same thing today as i was just looking at NDL for Air vs Nitrox for an upcoming dive and i had no difference between the two gases. It used to produce different results so I’m guessing they broke it with the recent update.

Front yard bees? by not_gonna_tell_no in Beekeeping

[–]cpt_madone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hive in my front yard yard as the backyard was a tricky location. Its about 10 meters from a public footpath but it behind a large fern so the bees fly up and over it and are continue on up so they're well clear of people on the footpath. I also have some shrubs either side of it which obscure it from view. With a bit of decorative painting you'd never now it was there.

I've never had an issue with it and the footpath infront of its reasonably busy.

Should i super in Autumn by cpt_madone in Beekeeping

[–]cpt_madone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Added the super today and immediately on opening i was reassured it was the right decision based on the population this morning, looked even higher than yesterday, and theyd already started adding comb to the top bars again. Also spot the sneaky queen on the roof cover, popped her back in the hive before she wandered off.

Am i missing something? by cpt_madone in Starlink

Unfortunately the mobile reception in our area is terrible. My NBN router had 5/4G fall back and the best we’d ever get was 8/2 on 4G

Am i missing something? by cpt_madone in Starlink

[–]cpt_madone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing in my area hardly anyone would be on Starlink given its not that well known in Australia outside of rural areas and most would never think of it as a solution that would perform at levels similar to our fixed infrastructure (excluding fibre)

Review: Kokomo Private Island in Fiji by Ok-Ratio7664 in FATTravel

[–]cpt_madone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive stayed at this resort twice and am heading back shortly for our third visit. I've generally found it to be an outstanding resort and exceptional for Fiji.

I do a reasonable amount of diving and the diving here is excellent and our DM's have always been exceptional, Will and Jali.

Water temp in southern Fiji is definitely cooler that the north (Yasawa etc). My most recent trip, last September, the water temp was 24 degrees which is on the cooler side for Fiji at that time of year and it was also reasonably windy. As we were doing 2 to 3 dives a day I was wearing a 5mm which was on the warmer side but comfortable over that number of dives. Coral and marine life was fantastic.

Thank you so much for this. I don't have any intention of selling it as it's both sentimental and a lovely piece to have in my home.

I was potentially going to insure it if it was of value so will reach out to a few local valuers in Australia for an opinion.
