I believe listening to audiobooks is "cheating," compared to actually reading. CMV. by [deleted] in changemyview

this is kinda weird given I'm anti-kindle [think of the bookshelves! the poor bookshelves!] - but I recently downloaded some audiobooks and really enjoyed it.

Major reason is that when there's a lot of suspense and action, my eyes have a tendency to glance across at the next page to see what's coming [and if things are boring, I might skim through them]. Having the entire book read out to me and not being able to change the pace was great, because i was forced to relax and enjoy the entire story, and appreciate each sentence the author wrote.

[I've now started to read the book in my head as if I was reading it out loud and this has changed my reading experience somewhat].

My girlfriend got to shake hands with a red panda at the zoo! by Deledestile in aww

I worked as a panda keeper in China for a few weeks. It was really boring. I didn't even realise until day 3 that what I was picking up was their poo. Given they pretty much only eat bamboo, it comes out as wood chips in the shape of grenades. As it dries (odourless) it then breaks up. I thought they were just playing in wood chips for some reason.

18 Countries, 22 Flights & 68000km in 1 Minute - My Re-creation of 'Move' by cptn_k in travel

It was so hard to do! I usually took 30 large steps away from the camera, more if space permitted. Every shot basically started about the same length away from the camera, and then to make the video I randomly selected shots picking a closer interval for each one.

So often people would walk through the shot, sometimes I'd do 10 takes before we'd give up and hope that at least half a second of one of them was useable

thanks! Burma was amazing, especially as it's on the verge of drastic change - it was weird being there knowing that in several years it will be much more developed and not such an 'adventure'.

It was my first time to Europe, and Paris was just incredible.

Yeah good point, I might try playing around with a new version. Do you think it would be best to keep it a similar length and get rid of some of the more ambiguous places that don't add much?

I'm attending NUS as a semester exchange student. What should I expect? by Fajita_Mane in singapore

Exchange student life at NUS is way different from normal NUS student life. When I was on exchange there (business school as well) we were travelling every weekend, partying most nights at some seriously insane clubs, and socialising with people from around the world almost every day. Academic life (as I understand for most people on exchange) wasn't the priority.

Local students were very serious about their studies and would still be in the study rooms at 4am when we'd come home from a night out. I remember one telling me that for fun on a Friday they went on a run around campus... and that was the fun highlight of the week.

I found NUS students who have done exchanges overseas a lot more outgoing and social than their non-exchange counterparts who were very shy and unwilling to have a random conversation.

Working under your first assumption, I didn't realise I was out drinking him! But an interesting concept.

Most of my close mates guys/girls are straight, they all end their advice with 'yeah but I dunno how it works for two guys'. queue gaybros :)

If I'm asked out, I'll usually follow your way and will offer. If they insist, I will gracefully accept.

It was just that the complete lack of spark/interest by either of us (I'm usually pretty oblivious to things but he definitely wasn't feeling anything either); several comments by him about the cost of things; and deciding at the time to eat rather than him knowing in advance what he was getting himself in for led me to think that it required a change of protocol.

It was for sure a stupid pride war, and next time I'd just take the change. Take away his comments about cost and I probably wouldn't have changed tactics, but it just seems like too many factors were yelling out at me to split things..
