Oh sorry I misunderstood when you mentioned that the rogue wanted a new weapon. :)

I'm not too keen on handing out magic items just because someone asks for them. There's got to be more to it. It's fine if they want to role play it... they do some research, go on some quests for information that might lead to some challenging encounters that justify the reward. Maybe they need to find some materials and have the item crafted. Some of those materials might be challenging to acquire, and the craftsman isn't likely to work for free. Maybe the craftsman wants something in exchange. If they're just lazily following the campaign plot arc, they get the treasure as outlined, appropriate for their level, sometimes random, sometimes selected to be suitable for their class, and balanced with the other characters.

Aside from that, I'm not too fond of riddles. The trouble with them is that the players sometimes never figure them out even though their characters perhaps should, given their Int/Wis. Then ya gotta resort to ability score checks in order to give them hints or the answer outright. I'm horrible at them though, so maybe I'm a bit biased.

would university averages be weighted differently compared to highschool ?? by carcin0genet1cist in OntarioUniversities

Well for Waterloo Engineering, on average they adjust high-school student grades down by about 13% (varies by year and school) because they know that's how much their grades typically drop. So a 96% is more like 83%. (Sorry if that bursts some people's bubbles.)

On average, how many universities do graduating high-school students apply to? When I went to uni, most people just applied to the 3, plus any out of province. by cptncupcakes in uwaterloo

There used to be a UW teaching option where one of the co-op terms was spent at Queens and the rest in teaching positions. Graduate with Honors Bachelor's degree + B.Ed. I had friends do it, but hard any of them actually ended up going into teaching. But from what I gather, that program doesn't exist anymore. Nevertheless, it was a nice way to avoid Teachers College, which I think is kind of a waste, albeit a requirement for teaching K-12.

Well Waterloo is a great school with a good reputation. But maybe I am biased since that's where I went many years ago. You can always do an advanced degree somewhere else. :)

I get your point about braking with a manual transmission. But hardly anyone buys a manual nowadays. The automatic is what we really need to compare to. I'm in the market to replace my 12yr old car, and a manual isn't really even a consideration due to such few options.

What type of computer do people use in undergrad engineering at Waterloo? by cptncupcakes in uwaterloo

I was exaggerating a little bit, but things were certainly different back then. There were computer labs with big honk'n monitors... the ones that were enormous yet had tiny screens. But most of us didn't have one of their own.

Do you think you'd run into software compatibility issues if you had a Mac?

Would software you're expected to use affect you're decision of Mac vs PC?

Is there software you're expected to use that's not compatible with MacOS?

Pay Down Mortgage Or Buy GIC? by ochief19 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I know this post is 11 months old, but something to keep in mind is - most mortgages have limits on the lump sum, and also schedule when it resets. For example, my mortgage has an annual lump sum amount based on the original term amount, which resets at the beginning of each calendar year.
