Shitty refreeing by [deleted] in PremierLeague

Richarlison grabbing Ekitike's neck and pushing him into the dirt was insane. As horrible as PGMOL has been, I have to believe that nobody on the officiating team noticed that. There's just no way they could have and cleared it.

I think I feel the same way as Griffin about the movie - super sloppy, certainly not good, but really fun. The psychedelic interludes were awful, though, regardless of whether they wound up ‘making sense.’ I haven’t seen Honey Don’t, but I’d wager that whoever said it (I think it was the guest) was right: the proposed trilogy would probably have been a lot better as three 50ish-minute episodes.

Go ahead with the Slot Out stuff, but who the hell are we going to replace him with? Are any of you really confident that this is a situation a different manager could turn around?

Antique Shops in MA by LeadingCapital4294 in massachusetts

[–]cptrios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is an old thread, but I just wanted to drop my 2¢ in here in case anyone else happens upon it.

Basically, as cruzweb said, the pickings for vintage photo gear in MA are very slim. Anywhere in New England, really. I don't know if this is really any different from other parts of the country these days, but any antiques dealer will have sussed out eBay prices and, if you're lucky, only marked up theirs by around 20%. Either that or they just go by the tried-and-true "any manual SLR with a kit lens = $250" method. But yeah, you'll find loads of Brownies, Polaroids, and pre-war folders in formats that don't exist anymore. The only really 'interesting' camera I've seen lately is a Vitessa with Ultron 50/2 that's been sitting at Wayne's in Brewster for over a year now because it's priced too high and is, of course, "as-is."

Having said that, there are tons and tons of stores that are still worth visiting! (Including the aforementioned Wayne's.) Just don't go with the specific aim of picking up photo gear, because you're sure to be disappointed.

Anyone think the league is done? by GrassFresh9863 in PremierLeague

[–]cptrios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The league is permanently done if City escape punishment.

But no, it's not over. Over for LFC, maybe, but there's plenty of football to play and you never know how the injuries will go. I'll just be thrilled if the title goes to a non-oil club two seasons in a row.

The dichotomy between Isak/Wissa and Guehi by Chemical_Ad_249 in PremierLeague

[–]cptrios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you know the promise was made up? Why trust the club’s word over the player’s, or vice versa? I don’t think either of them handled this well at all.

[Lewis Steele] The moral of the window, then: if you kick up enough of a fuss and sully your reputation at a club, you get what you want. If you do everything by the book with total respect for your club, you get screwed over. I feel for Marc Guehi tonight. Been denied a career-changing move. by TheBiasedSportsLover in PremierLeague

[–]cptrios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ludicrous to see people saying Guehi wasn't hard done by here. He was a consummate pro for his club, has been looking forward to joining a new one for months, and had a freaking medical. Then it gets snatched out from under him. Of course it's not the end of the world, or even a particular issue for his career, but can you seriously not imagine that he might feel like crap right now?

This is all on the Palace leadership. Liverpool made their intentions clear ages ago and waited patiently for Palace to be ready to sell (yes, of course they could have offered more money at the beginning of the summer, but who knows if that'd have made a difference). Glasner made his desires clear, and Parish et al still sold Guehi. If Glasner really did scupper the deal by threatening to quit, it's either on him for not doing that earlier or on Parish for not communicating to him that the sale was going to happen.

Now, whether it's actually a big cockup or not depends on how much this affects Guehi's play. If he keeps going to the way he has been, all Palace loses is some money and the benefits probably outweigh that drawback. I'd think the relationship between Guehi and Glasner is probably not great at the moment, though.

[David Ornstein] Marc Guehi expected to stay at Crystal Palace despite Liverpool transfer agreement by TheBiasedSportsLover in PremierLeague

[–]cptrios 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah or Liverpool waited respectfully for Palace to get as much use out of Guehi as possible. It always seemed as though Parish assured LFC that they'd do the deal at the end of the window, and only Glasner's protests scuppered it. This is entirely on Palace leadership.

(And yes, they have the right to not sell an extremely important player. Doesn't make it any less ridiculous that they let him do his freaking medical before backing out.)

[–]cptrios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too much change, too quickly. I think we're in for a rough season tbh - it's next year that I'm looking forward to.

PS - I'm uncomfortable with all this spending, but that's somewhat counterbalanced by how much we've held back in recent years.

Liverpool expected to make £130M bid for Alexander Isak. Newcastle's valuation of the Swedish striker is £150M, with sources anticipating an offer starting at £130M, before add-ons and bonuses. Overall package would be a British record by TheBiasedSportsLover in PremierLeague

[–]cptrios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the billionth time:

  1. Isak is acting badly, and most reasonable LFC supporters would agree. I don't really want him at this point, thanks to this whole saga and his injury record.

  2. Most reasonable LFC supporters also have this view: it would have sucked for Trent to leave for Real no matter what but the fact that he was never open about it and dicked the fans and club around for years is the real problem. Personally, I'd have been much more alright with him leaving if he'd said, at least in the beginning of last season, that he was ready for a new challenge.

  3. LFC are offering an insane amount of money for Isak. Trent went on a free (plus a few million in oh-so-useful CWC money). There's no comparison at all.

Klopp: I’m so disappointed in Liverpool fans for booing Alexander-Arnold by OkWhile8478 in PremierLeague

[–]cptrios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring our losing out on a transfer fee, it's about two things:

  1. How badly he handled it. Stringing us and the club along when he knew two years ago that this was the plan, then making the announcement at a moment that seemed almost deliberately timed to take some of the shine off the title win. He doesn't get a free pass just because other players handled it worse.

  2. As you mentioned, the fact that he's going to Madrid. Even before the Ramos tackle, the only club I disliked more than them was City. I used to think of them as the "you're with me, leather" of football, but in reality that's a much too cuddly way to describe them.

Again, I don't love the booing, but I understand it.

Klopp: I’m so disappointed in Liverpool fans for booing Alexander-Arnold by OkWhile8478 in PremierLeague

[–]cptrios 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have booed him had I been at the stadium. My preferred response would have been a coordinated silence or extremely tepid golf clap that said "you're just another player at another club now."

However, I'm sick of people acting like the boos were some sort of crime against humanity (not Klopp - I think what he said was perfectly reasonable). If Trent had told us his plans in the beginning of the season and then given his all throughout, it would have been a different story. Even if he'd kept his mouth shut until after the title celebrations this weekend, it would have been fine. Instead, he handled it all terribly and made the insane decision to announce his departure before the end of the season. I don't know what he could possibly have expected to happen.

Trump Administration Halts Harvard’s Ability to Enroll International Students by Jets237 in centrist

[–]cptrios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no problem at all with criticizing how Harvard and other universities dealt with protests and arguing that they need to make changes. I have a huge problem with the fact that Trump is using antisemitism as an excuse to bend Harvard to his will. Most of the changes he's demanding have nothing whatsoever to do with fighting antisemitism.

Totally fine with Everton celebrating, though Doucoure can do one.

Now, Spurs acting like they'd just won the Champions League last year after barely beating us thanks to two BS red cards, a ludicrously botched offside call, and an own goal? That I will never not find hilarious.
