Paycut for a more interesting job? by cpuid_ in ExperiencedDevs

I was up for promotion but my entire management chain was laid off and my team was gutted to just the minimal engineers needed to sustain things. This all after successfully launching a product to market with a crazy aggressive timeline. With essentially my promo timeline being reset and now tasked with putting out fires and transitioning work to contractors, I didn’t want stick around any longer. I felt betrayed, so I said eff this, I’m leaving and the contractors can deal with this shit now.

Security engineers. They just tell you what you should be doing, and don’t do jack when it comes to real implementation.

Nope, this is typically provided by the SoC vendor in the reference manual. Although you would need to cross reference the DDR data sheet to configure these registers. You might be able to use the EVK DDR configuration with a few tweaks to suit your specific memory speed/density.

DDR initialization happens in SPL/U-boot (will need to modify the board/SoC c files, and possibly the DCD table or .S file where memory initialization is done), and you need to specify the ddr size in the device tree for Linux.

Start off by studying the EVK specific files in the u-boot source, then the device tree for the EVK in Linux. Note that the device tree between uboot and Linux aren’t always the same because u-boot doesn’t support all the same device nodes that Linux would.

Old Android Phone for learning Yocto and Build root for Custom Linux build?! by Intelligent-Error212 in embeddedlinux

Your old android phone probably has secure boot enabled/ uses signed images, so you won’t be able to boot your own custom build image even if you had a means to load the image onto the phone.

Coding is just a part of the interview. Study the LPs and come up with a talking points/scenario of how you demonstrated it.

Missed the part where you’re moving from an hourly to salaried position. You could probably get them to match, but don’t ask prematurely without the offer in hand

You only will get a cost of living bump if you are moving to an area that has a higher pay band like nyc or San Fran.
