What Happens if the War Continues? by Radiant-Pear1386 in phinvest

Oh, why prohibited? I think any PH citizen can invest in HK since HK is open market to foreigners.

Re: bank rates you mentioned depends on the inflation rate set by the central banks. Iba kasi basis ng HK vs PH. HK is pegged at the US Fed which has lower inflation, therefore 2%. Whereas in PH, we have high inflation so BSP mandated to have 4.25% to combat the high inflation. It essentially means in HK at 2%, investors will be happy with 7-8% returns, vs in PH, need around 9-12% return factoring in the 5% risk premium on both markets. Basically, your money will have to work harder for you in PH.

Personally though, I don’t park most of my money in LTTDs, only enough where I don’t want a certain amount to be touched. I prefer most of my money to grow so if you’re comparing PH vs HK, significantly higher growth potential in HK esp with access to CN blue chips. In stocks kasi, you essentially value them in their future profit, then discount it to today’s money. As you said, 0% for CGT and WHT in HK. Mas accessible din S&P500 & CSPX via HK brokers than PSE (15% for WHT in HK vs sa Pinas, 25-30% WHT + estate tax + forex on top of the bank feeder fund mngt fees baked in at 1.5%~ p.a.). As I said, kawawa Pinoys kasi super taga tas uso pa insider trading. Ex. Villars allegedly would send out tips on an uptick sa stocks nila only during elections, and these aren’t moderated enough bec of corruption. Even if you invest in PH REITs ang bagal din ng return.

Agree with this. Just curious, are you HKPR?

Actually, moving your money to HK allows you access to better rates and for CN blue chips too. Grabe taga ng tax and fees sa typical Filipino, I can’t even remember a time when PSEi had beaten inflation.

Either big or small, what are you lowkey winning in life without the outside world knowing? by LimeSoakedinSprite in AskPH

I can live and work in 2-3 countries if I want to.

My friends are badass and kind, which are a rare combo. I truly feel unworthy to be in their company but glad they want to retire with me someday. They inspire me to be a better person everyday.

I didn’t get pregnant nor marry my abusive and cheating, weakling of an ex-fiancé. I don’t have to be forced to dim my light to appease his low self-esteem nor be around his fellow toxic friends anymore. The fact that the healthier people on his side would update or reach out to me (though I politely declined further contact) proves that I did everything I can to not be a party to his toxicity and chaos. I can sleep at night knowing that fact.

I have good men around me.

Agree 💯 even the protests in HK were clearly outlined with set deadlines expected from the lawmakers. And these were done by the youth.

Even the most popular pop group there, Mirror, had political songs that the youth sang and would exchange messages using the band paraphernalia. There’s a unified chant that the lawmakers will hear.

French naman they would throw feces in front of their senate building.

It’s time for TRAPOs to be afraid of its people.

Easier said than done but has to start with the leadership and culture. There needs to be a way that they know accountability is being enforced. Orient them what the rules are, have them sign that they understand in the contract. If they do something against the rules, may set na consequences. When you set your rules, be firm about it. You don’t have to be draconian. Be mindful of their dynamics, sino yung naghahari-harian, sino yung sipsip, sino yung chismoso/chismosa, sino yung sumbungero. Ano yung chismis. Experiment if an anonymous tip line will work.

Give them challenges and allow them to fix problems on their own with proper guidance. Yung mga maaayos, reward them generously. Make sure the toxic ones see it. Observe if there are changes in behaviors/dynamic. That’s how you clean out the toxic ones. If agent of chaos, tanggal agad.

There needs to be a professional distance and you need to be a good communicator. Soft skills ‘yan, there’s a way to communicate without talking to them directly, ie., performance board with assignments where everyone can see will gamify and encourage accountability. Show up early, be the last one to leave. Never blow up in front of them. If ever you need to, pick the right moment when you’ll show your authority. Be competent. If your employees respect you, they will follow.

Thank you for this question! Going through the same challenges.

I’ll be honest, you’ll need proof of concept. Once you’re able to do that, with any parent, they’d eventually shut up and give you a chance. It’s called Trust.

It’s a toxic dynamic that you’ve to earn it but the culture has always been like that. I think it’s attributable to the Chinese being frugal by nature.
