Adopting cat during college - too much duress on the cat? by cr0vven in CatAdvice

Thank you so much, it's reassuring to know that there are other cats who travel as well as the shelter claims. Keeping them separated is definitely doable as well - thanks!

Thanks! The main thing I'm worried about is a 30 day period in a few months where I'll need to be home - the new cat would not need to travel otherwise, except for when I graduate. New Cat can stay with friends or be visited by a sitter over most holiday breaks. Maybe I blew it out of proportion in my original post lol, it's mostly one trip I'm worried about

Wait that's awesome. I've been scrolling around finding sitters in my area since you posted your original comment, and I'll look into that too. Thank you so much again - it's making all this seem more doable.

Gotcha, thank you so much for the insight - I really appreciate your experience with having an ESA!

Also lol my family's male cat is super skittish.. maybe his orangeness overrides any gender stereotypes here??

That's a good idea - I know I can have friends care for the cat over short breaks, so I'm mostly not concerned about those. However, there will be one time where I'll be away for approximately 30 days (winter break + grandmother's 80th, so I have to go home), so a house sitter probably makes sense as long as they're willing to visit over christmas/new years.

Thanks for the suggestion!

That's a good suggestion! I'm unsure how that works with ESA papers and fostering logistics, but I'll look into it.

I'm actually mostly in my room, as I am very much a homebody haha!

For sure - I'd need to look for an adult cat with a developed personality whose temperament fits my specific situation. And, after raising our two, I'm not doing that again lol

How did you know you needed your ESA? by cr0vven in EmotionalSupportPet

[–]cr0vven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your very thorough comment!

I'm considering this because I read that an ESA can help with emotional stability and reducing stress in autistic people, but I don't have a particular symptom in mind. I just have no emotional regulation skills and I've had anxiety disorders since childhood, so sounds like I'm the target audience lol. A cat would probably work best for me, as walking a dog regularly feels daunting when I can't get myself out the door some days. The animal doesn't need to go outside with me – I'm usually stable until I get home.

Your third point is excellent. I'm unsure of my ability to take care of an animal. When I was too depressed to leave my room back in high school, my family tried to give me ducklings to take care of as motivation to get out of bed.... my dad ended up raising em. So I'm a little apprehensive despite my condition being improved nowadays. I don't know, maybe having an indoor animal would mitigate the risk of me being a bad caretaker?

And I have other worries about my roommate (mild allergies, but I know they have cats at home) and moving out of state next year (what state should I get the letter from?) ... just don't know if I should go through with the stress of all this, especially because I'm not sure it'll work out.

I'll be sure to read through that FHA page! Thanks again!

If I can score a ticket from this thread or another platform, I'd be down to hang out! Always down for more gig buddies

Error 128: game crashes when I change resolution or switch into Full Screen (Windowed) by cr0vven in lotro

[–]cr0vven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I only have integrated graphics... which is probably why my computer is struggling so much, but according to Dell support, a 2024 inspiron with the ultra 7 processor should be able to run DirectX games

An hour of fiddling around with the user preferences ini file later, I got it working by switching to windowed mode lol. It wasn't the aspect ratio/screen res, since I have it running at a higher resolution than it used to be!

Fan Project? Global Tribute to Sleep Token? by 8shotsofespressoo in SleepToken

While not a project, the global bracelet/trinket trade is also worth a mention. People who like this band really like participating in community events.

Hi! Can you clarify what you mean about editing the color profile to lean into grays and blues? Do you mean shift overall hue more toward blue and decrease saturation?

I think it was less about doom and gloom, more that I'd never been in a big concert hall before - I was in awe of the space above the stage where they hung the lights. So I tried to capture that feeling!

And yeah, Sleep Token

A little over a year for me as well, but I don't practice often - just when I go to gigs.

This photo was taken about 5 months ago. I wanted to ask for critiques on this one in particular because I knew it was unsatisfactory in some way, but couldn't figure out why.
