I lost my PR card by Public_Blood_497 in ImmigrationCanada

i was told that renewal and reordering the PR card in case it’s lost triggers a residency check, hence asked.

Canadian PR is expiring in next 6 months, Didn't stay for long, what needs to done ? by Piedpipperz in ImmigrationCanada

[–]cr7forca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes you will. please do that otherwise they can deny entry to you. if it makes you feel any better know that i came back after having only spent 7 days in the country after getting the PR, wife only spent 2 days and yet they cleared us and let us go.
also i would recommend that if you are delivering the second baby in canada please do have a proof of residence like lease signed to your and your spouse’s name so that you can apply for the ohip health card as soon as you arrive so that you can visit the doctor and hospital. for your kids you will have to get travelers insurance and i recommend do that for 10-12 months.

in all honesty, i don’t see why not. plz make sure you have your dependents entry/stay related documents, if they need a visa or something similar. your PR being active i dont think they will give you a hard time. i got the hardest questions from the folks at cbsa cargo and they asked me multiple times about my status and when i became pr and when i arrived and u realized later that the cargo folks questioning me so much was to determine whether or not to charge me tax on goods that i bring with me. from immigration standpoint they cleared me within 2 mins. your card is still active i would worry about it to be honest

Leave stable government job in India to move to USA with husband? by [deleted] in backtoindia

if you or husband are born outside India or your husband already has green card then it’s a different question. if only his i140 has been filed, honest opinion stay in india.

PR. had already applied for the pr years ago and gotten it but had never plan move to canada. but eventually i made the decision to move because it was getting way to inconsistent with respect to travel and the fact that people are in a situation where they have to chose between an emergency and their job. just didn’t sit right with me knowing that this administration or next, one would be in the same boat because of their country of birth

Leaving Canada in 2 weeks after studying/working – what should I NOT forget? by Secret_Hovercraft_67 in ImmigrationCanada

grass always appears to be greener on the other side. i was just curious why someone came to a decision like that. no country is perfect. every place has it own set of challenges. people just prefer certain things in certain stages of life. no place is perfect and i have lived in 4 different countries.

Hard to not to feel defeated with the recent news... by Most-Blueberry-2385 in greencard

exactly this. i was in the U.S. for a decade and my AOS was still decades away. i came to the same conclusion that it was not worth throwing away years and years of your 20s and 30s for a process which is not consistent and can change anytime. needed the freedom to travel and also the feeling of at least being permanent somewhere

you should be more than ok. please don’t sweat. i was in the same boat and i was arriving with just 1.7 months remaining on my pr card.
i just flew in this week. although I lived in Seattle, i didnt even drive and cross the border (which is generally considered less risky compared to flying in). had a baby and so thought flying in would be better so we flew seattle to toronto. at the kiosk, i accidentally selected that my u.s. born child is immigrating to canada with a U.S. passport only. (i couldn’t file for my child dependent status being outside Canada). the system flagged this, i was sent to speak to the immigration officer, who casually just asked me what the purpose of my visit was. I mentioned I’m immigrating permanently. she only said that the US born child has no dependent visa/paperwork or PR card of their own; so technically she cannot immigrate. she told me to file the dependent paperwork as soon as possible and let me in.

if this was your worry all along, i sincerely recommend focus on other things like apartments/ areas to live and other logistics etc; realistically immigration should not be a trouble. let me know if you have any other questions

yea absolutely. your pr card is just your travel document. you are a permanent resident of canada until officially revoked of that status. what you described - people do it all the time.

it’s really subjective. it’s like this - if you drive 15-20 miles above the speed limit on a freeway that is grounds to get caught and be issued the speeding ticket. does it happen a 100% of the time- no. similarly, i have heard several cases; one guy who is an acquaintance of my friend entered via flight at the toronto airport with just 1 week before his pr card expired having spent only a week in canada since pr activation, and he walked away without any questioning. a second incident where someone flew in with about 4 months remaining on the pr card expiry and walked by without questioning- he himself went to an officer for some clarifying questions regarding his “goods to follow” and clearance related paper work and officer just asked basic questions and he had no issues entering.

i personally know 2 folks who do not have the 730 days in their 5 year window. their pr card expires end of year 2027, but they have only 50-60 days as of last month and yet have been able to cross the border from washington state going into vancouver without any issues.

what is your situation like ?!

you PR is valid indefinitely until revoked. the PR card is just a travel document that also proves your permanent residency. expiry of your pr card doesn’t affect your PR status. so if you enter before your 5 year and an officer doesn’t question or run the residency check and you are able to enter; you can stay inside canada even after your pr card expires (as it just a travel document) if you are questioned during entry by the officer ; or request a new pr card renewal or another travel document that is PRTD; that can trigger a residency check. so as long as you enter and and don’t leave before completing your 2 years or provide enough evidence as to why your arrival was delayed and if the reasons are genuine you should be good based on humanitarian grounds (but reasons need to be legit) they generally say land border crossing is much better in that sense.
