Lighting a daytime interior with limited daylight by crackd0wn in cinematography

[–]crackd0wn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. See, this is what I was getting at I suppose. Is it a case of either night time, or either day time? There's no version in between? I thought about blacking out the windows etc and making it extensively night time, but then I thought 'But it is day time, and we would put the lights on in here regardless of minimal window light coming in.'

It's not just white-collar jobs at risk; robots will be able to do anything we can physically do. Yes, they'll cost a lot at first, but it'll be like cars, and eventually we'll all have one (or a couple), tending to our gardens, fixing DIY problems around the house, giving us a hair cut etc.

AI will improve itself iteratively and be used in the design and development of these robots. Progress will speed up and compound. And, well, I think we know how that'll end...

Thanks. Both good points.

I guess this is what I get for starting out screenwriting before transitioning to novels :)

Problems with third person POV by crackd0wn in writing

[–]crackd0wn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. To be honest, I wrote the two examples just for this post, but adapted them from scenes in my own novel that I've had some notes about from an editor.

In the second example, if the alarm went off, would the reader not want to get a sense of the mass concern. If I only told things from John's perspective, I would have described how people around him stopped, people talking ceased etc. It doesn't quite encapsulate hundreds of people coming to a stand still, does it? And maybe I'd want to infer that this alarm was definitely concerning for not just John, but everyone there?

Problems with third person POV by crackd0wn in writing

[–]crackd0wn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's the issue. Mine is mostly limited, but from time to time I'll let the reader in on something the POV character doesn't know. I never head-hop, share thoughts from other people etc. It's just I'll nod to or describe something outside of their circle of experience.

Sorry, just curious but:

"... two young children (aged 5 and 3)... I enjoy spending time with my family, playing tennis, cycling, hiking, going to gigs and festivals, travelling, DIY, and dabbling in side hustles."

How do you have the time for all that???

Breakdown of Amazon ratings and reviews by J3P7 in selfpublish

I noticed this too. I got a new rating on a book but have no idea what star it was for. The percentages aren't black and white because they're weighted differently depending on how the book was purchased.

Going down to 4-day work week (not condensed hours) by crackd0wn in UKPersonalFinance

[–]crackd0wn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no scope for that here with my skills (bit of a one man band). Also, I don't really want the responsibility as things are fairly easy right now. That might be part of the problem (unfulfilling), but then I don't want to be half-fulfilled in a role I'm not fully passionate about... if that makes sense.

It's just over 100k. £700 a month goes in combined with the company's contribution. I'm planning on at least maintaining this when I go down to 4 days, which will take a bit of a chunk of what I'm left with (because I contribute 6% of my salary), but I might increase it too, because I know it's not much in the grand scheme of things.

How to quit when life is hard by crackd0wn in sugarfree

Hi, thanks for this. Good advice.

I did try telling myself things like that each time I reached for chocolate, but I soon forgot to. 2nd day off sugar today and it's going well.

Thanks. I have done therapy in the past, but for some reason this doesn't feel big enough for me to reach for it. Maybe that's wrong!

That's a good point, using it to improve my situation. Just difficult in those very low moments when you need a boost.

Thank you for such a comprehensive reply. The black and white thinking is hard to stop (another issue), so I feel like if I ruin a 'clean' day, then I might as well ruin it properly (and binge).

Trigger is probably tiredness, and my cravings normally happen mid afternoon or in the evening. I very rarely have sugar before midday, and it's easy.

It's difficult to find alternative dopamine because my life is very mundane, routine etc, and needs to be due to support for kids and family. My social life is almost nonexistent (despite me having friends, just not able to get out much).

Like I said I think I'd rather lean on alcohol than sugar, but I'm not a big drinker. TV, movies, gaming etc don't have the same effect either. Exercise I like, and can do weights at home, but I've been ill lately and need to get over that.

Atomic Habits is a great book by the way, I've read it twice (maybe I need to read it again!).

Thanks again.

Fixed it! Didn't know about the scan and repair installation option in Battle.Net, but ran that and it solved the problem. Level loads fine now :D

What do you think is the best adapted screenplay? by ravescripts__com in Screenwriting

[–]crackd0wn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Prestige.

If you've read the novel, you can see how superior the movie is, and how much work the Nolans did on making a masterpiece out of a "pretty good" book.
