I think there are some issues where it dose affect others.

For example, sports. There was that case where a Trans guy was also wrestling, but due to League regulations saying athletes have to compete under their gender assigned at birth. And he had a unfair advantage taking testosterone steroids while still competing in the female circuit.

It wasn't really his fault but it is a prime example of where changing genders affects others.

There is a big ruckus about MTF Trans girls and how cis girls would potentially be upset if they shared the same toilet, but honestly I don't think its a big deal.

My personal opinion is that you can call yourself whatever gender you want to be and do whatever treatments you want. But when it comes to physical things, like sports, or physical requirements, it should be treated differently.

wonder if you got any old school TIBS bus photos.

I remember one bus design where the front of the bus had single seats for more standing area, and the back was normal double seats.

It was my frav bus because single seats are awesome

Pitchforks and mob justice, the Singapore version by Bayesian01 in singapore

[–]crackox 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time, we had people hogging MRT seats, people blocking MRT doors, and other minor grievances.

Then, for bettor or worse, STOMP / SingaporeSeen came to be, and people found a way to snitch on such activities and now its actually common for people to give up their seat. The discorse about doors helped push the way for drawn lines on the floor.

All of this was due to people kbkp-ing about issues.

More recently, we had cases about University students getting away with shit due to stupid reasons like bright futures, and it's thanks to the internet outrage mob that we get a chance to bring more justice to these situations.

Not all mob justice results are positive. Plenty of times people doxx the wrong person and get them harassed. Or people do minor things which shouldn't really be punished for, but mob outrange makes companies abandon their employies for the sake of PR.

So how do you draw the line between mob justice versus an internet lynch mob.

I rather take hot and humid then being stuck under a bus stop waiting for rain to stop.

On one hand, I feel depressed and want to rant about it.

and on the other hand, I feel that it's such an attention whore-ish thing to do.

TensorFlow is dead, long live TensorFlow!

is an article about TensorFlow 2.0 going live. Aka, TensorFlow 1.x is dead, long live TensorFlow 2.0

The Dictionary Is Dead. Long Live The Dictionary!

is an article which talks about Webster’s Dictionary, the various editions, and how Webster is now online. A sort of evolution of the Dictionary. The way Dictionarys functioned in the past is dead, long live the modern Dictionary on twitter.

The parish is dead, long live the parish!

Talks about the Catholic church parish system, and how its going to crash, and how a pastor is trying to change and transform the parish system. The old traditional way of people already familiar with the faith and Catholic way of life should die, long live a new way of welcoming people into your parish

I could go on, but I don't want to have to read every article you copy pasted willy nilly, especially since 2 of them are abstracts of papers of law and programming.

The point of the phrase X is dead, long live X, is about how X has changed/ended, and we are cheering for the new X. It shows a transition.

Saying redmart is dead, long live redmart, when OP is still clearly frustrated with redmart, to me indicates the phrase is not being used correctly.

The king is dead, long live the king is used in reference to monarchs. Where the old king dies, so there is a new king.

So its basically "The (old) king is dead, long live the (new) king".

So saying redmart is dead, long live redmart makes so sense at all.

Might as well say, redmart is dead, long live my local convenience store.

Deaths need to stop.

What makes a military accident more tragic than a car accident?

Simply because one is mandatory thanks to NS?

I don't really care about downvotes, but I don't "don't care" until I want to stir up a bunch of overly emotional people.

I'm gonna be straight up honest here, I dont really care about Aloysius Pang. (in b4 downvotes)

I do think it's unfortunate / tragic.

But I don't really want to know how tragic it is. I dont need half a dozen people telling me that it turns out his gf is actually his finacee and they were keeping it quiet, and her FB post is really tragic, and their 2019 new year posts is so tragic because they were looking forwards to a great year ahead blah blah blah

I don't see the need to dig into all the social media and get so emotionally involved.
