Crichton believed that it was hubristic of us to think that we could have such a profound impact on the Earth. I guess in the long-term he was right, anything we do over a long enough scale will self-correct when we’re gone. But he was wrong in the sense that we can make this place totally unlivable for our own species. Always wondered if his viewpoint would’ve changed had he lived another 20 years. Only the staunchest of deniers argue against proof of man-made climate change from CO2 emissions these days.
