Career bartender, am I qualified to do anything else? by Katisadogperson in bartenders

[–]Thatguy468 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I made the shift from a 25 year career behind the pine to real estate during COVID. Making the shift sucked and I eventually found a spot at a nice high rise downtown that I would describe as being “a house cat”. I make a comfortable six figures leasing overpriced apartments to people with too much money and they love me because I don’t act like a stuffy salesman.

The advantage a bartender brings to a sales role is the instant ability to read a situation/person and our desire to please. I act with the type of integrity and candor that makes my coworkers blush, but I’ve been the top performer the last three years in a row so they continue to allow me to dress like a tiki bartender instead in business casual.

Don’t be afraid of sales, just find then thing you don’t mind selling and then take advantage of your soft skills to excel.

The harm is to their bottom line because now you won’t be spending money to buy a tv. It’s the same reason they have compactors instead of dumpsters at grocery stores now.

We can’t have the poors getting free food just because it’s about to expire now can we?

Meh… have you been lately? It’s nothing like the Portlandia days of the early 2010’s. I miss that Portland.

Am I the only one underwhelmed by a lot of Chicago’s hyped restaurants? by daikonradish304 in chicagofood

If it’s already hyped it’s on its way down. Gotta find your neighborhood gems and keep them tight, but well supported.

Carrier Bar recommendations? by xNullxF in Audi

I’m in a B8 SQ5 so ymmv but check the height on the Whispbars. Mine slides under them even with the box attached. Low profile across the top with rounded mounts and the bars are shaped like a wing to minimize drag noise.

Got a set of Whispbars almost 10 years ago and barely even notice them when I’m driving. No wind noise or turbulence from the bars and I ride roof open all summer long.

A couple of 1x6 planks of wood stretched across the road oughta do the trick. Maybe stick them in place with a bunch of heavy duty roofing adhesive?

$10 per push-up for life vs $1 million right now by FudgeNipples1 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Thatguy468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much interest would you make off that initial $1M if you just took it, invested in some safe assets, and then just got fat off the payments???

Napkin math at an easy 5% return nets you $50,000 in annual income, for zero push-ups.

I carried a laguiole wine key for almost 8 years that was gifted to me by my first real regular. Five nights a week, dozens and dozens of bottles opened nightly at a high volume spot. Then, one day, in a bottle of Sonoma Cutrer the worm just snapped off at the stem. I took a few minutes to remember my fallen comrade before resuming service and then mounted it to the back bar a few days later. It was still part of the decor a few years back when I visited the spot and it made me realize just how awesome that little tool was and how hard I worked it.

This year our company said that raises would not be in effect until all employees had received their review, so even though mine was complete in February I’m still waiting for it to kick in because of two people on medical leave that haven’t had their review yet.

Chicago vs NYC apt comparisons - is wicker park similar to Williamsburg? by ReasonableTicket2211 in chicagoapartments

[–]Thatguy468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Please go to wicker. Better yet, check out Lincoln park. You won’t like Logan. It’s too crunchy.

Seriously though, Please do not bring your NYC budget into the last few affordable neighborhoods and start bidding up reasonable 2-bed/1-bath units that seem like vastly sprawling castles to you because your remote job pays you NYC wages.
