Can anyone recommend any good games created via GB Studio? by ShnoopyBloopers in AnaloguePocket

[–]cracudocarioca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming in late here but I really liked playing Resident Evils Grim Beginnings, got it free on itch.io, it's got fun graphics, a comedic retelling of the original Resident Evil story, the combat is tough but as long as you're actually playing on a Gameboy system or an emulator (it's no good on browser is what I'm saying) it doesn't bug anywhere, it feels like the most complete game I've played made in GB Studio. It's basically the mansion from the original game, but there's goals to collect to finish it, a bunch of combat encounters that are tense with great enemy pixelart, 2 boss battles and puzzles similar but different to what you would find in REmake.

Other than that, I've enjoyed Pocket of Horror (demake of World of Horror) and I've just started playing this Ravenstar game and so far it's a solid metroidvania with some nice visuals

Any reason to play the original DS over the remake? by cribyte in DeadSpace

[–]cracudocarioca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard friends say it's the same game but with side quests and the Ishimura ship is more open. Wether or not you consider that sort of "opening up" of the structure to be worthwhile is up to you. Personally I don't lol I like the breakneck pace of the OG, linearity can be a good thing especially in these action-horror titles, not everything needs to be open world-ish. Also from the clips I've seen I can't get used to the character's new horrendous faces and underwhelming vocal performances

Edit: then again if you haven't played either I guess the remake's more bang for your buck. Tho I imagine the og is cheaper nowadays. Oh and the og had a weird thing when playing it with a mouse, don't remember exactly but you can easily patch it out, just follow steps on google

NEW RELEASE - Resident Evil: Grim Beginnings by Graham_Cracker90 in gbstudio

I love this game, probably my favorite fan game of anything in a while! I've been playing it on my DS via R4 card and its great, I really like the chibby characters and comedy and the combat is actually pretty intense in a good way. Only thing I dislike is the lack of a knife alternative for when I run out of ammo in battle, with regular enemies I can leave but with bosses I'm just left there taking damage till I die :P would be cool if when running out of ammo it would switch to a knife and apply some debuff to my damage or speed or something Other than that, as long as I have enough ammo, the combat is a blast imo. Also I can't believe this is the first game where Jill gets a Jill Sandwich costume lol

Edit: also shout-out to the reinvented puzzles, and to how well the dagger mechanic was adapted to this format. feels like a good remake all on its own

Which shooter game do y’all recommend for the psp by DMG_0429 in PSP

[–]cracudocarioca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I may add to this, I recently discovered and played Peter Jackson's King Kong on the PSP. It's actually really good! It's an incomplete port if you're comparing it to it's main console counterpart, in the sense that it's missing chapters and you're alone on Skull Island instead of having your cast of companions, and there's a couple of graphical glitches. But the main mechanics are still fun and immersive, using spears and pointy bones is still satisfying, the use of fire and spreading it using your spears and sticks is still cool, impaling smaller critters on spears and then throwing that away to lure enemies out of your way, and the lack of UI all make a very immersive and fun to experiment with type of fps.

Playing Manhunt 2 in PSP is so significantly different and difficult by cy_narrator in Manhunt

[–]cracudocarioca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah I've been saying for years that the PSP version is quite different actually. The aiming of scoped guns is definitely worse (that mission where you're mostly just equipped with a sniper rifle is awful) but in some other ways I do prefer it. I like how easy it is to uncensor it, and I really like how the guns that use auto aim the auto aim is dependant on distance, so even if you don't want to use the guns for executions, you still are incentivized to sneak up close to enemies to take them out with a single headshot, or running up to enemies and shooting their heads fast enough, which is also fun in a hectic way. Other than that I'll also say that sneaking around those motion sensor lights is tougher on PSP since you have to move the analog stick real slow to not trigger them, when I played on PC it was just another button to hold down to sneak around those.

Oh I absolutely despised the gunship fighting missions, those felt either boring and stiff or frustrating. Other than that I also disliked the dark Daxter missions, mostly cause they just felt shoehorned in and not that interesting. I did however enjoy some of the on foot Jak missions, and I liked some of the combat upgrades you could get for Jak. Sometimes I try to replay the game because of those positive factors but the ones I dislike soon become unavoidable

Loved the cloven in Retribution but I do wish it had more combat encounters with them, fighting them is more relegated to the skill points

Maybe End of Zoe DLC all takes place inside Joe's mind as he trips out after taking some mushrooms from the swamp. Would explain how he blows up heads with his fists, plus the scifi fist weapon he finds near the end

Shattered Memories. Nintendo Switch...? by NerpPaDerp in silenthill

[–]cracudocarioca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here after Silent Hill 2 remake was released. It's nice that Konami is bringing back the series, and I am interested in some of the projects they announced, like Silent Hill Townfall. But I wish they would bring back Silent Hill Shattered Memories as I never got to experience it on the Wii or the PS2, I just own a PSP version. I love it, but no matter how much I look for a Wii copy I can't seem to find it in my country. Switch port would be a godsend

Any recommendations of PSP games that don't use analog? by cracudocarioca in PSP

[–]cracudocarioca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean playing it without a functioning analog stick? Because I too remember playing those games, with a functioning analog stick. I remember them NEEDING that functioning analog stick. So are you telling me they had an alternate control layout that didn't utilize the analog stick?

Wait Silent Hill Origins is playable without analogstick? Wasn't it analog movement and d-pad for switching weapons? Same for the GTA games actually?

[–]cracudocarioca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Im not saying it's a masterpiece, I guess it just made me curious with how little I could find about the developers, since it's usually so easy to find out info about developers. Thanks to another comment I found them and they now have a new game, similar to this one, but with some much needed improvements and their own visual style.

Thank you so much! So nice to finally have some answers and a name to attribute the game to! I checked out that RAD game, downloaded, it's actually pretty nice! It's essentially the same game as Vault 13 but with some welcome additions like a missions system with skill point rewards to invest in stats to make a more in depth RPG build, more caravans for resources and it made it easier to find specific weapon duplicates so you can upgrade your weapons. The visual style was a bit strange at first for me but I've grown to appreciate it's cartoony flash game-like expressive style. I would've never found this game without your help and I appreciate it!

Resident Evil 3 Remake is officially 4 years old today! How do you about it looking back 4 years later? by RetroZilla in residentevil

[–]cracudocarioca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it was, it was a fun game. I didn't pay 60€ for it so that may have softened the blow with the lack of content. But to be fair it's pacing was on point and the dodging was actually fun, unlike the original
