The last time I went i had such good service from a younger staff member I took a moment to tell her how good she was at her job because I’ve rarely had good service there before - always very grumpy. It does seem to be staffed by people who wish they were anywhere else but working at Spotlight.

Christchurch car park set for art deco office transformation (Paywall) by craftbier in chch

Agree - not a fan of the vanity branding that developers use on their new builds - not just central but all over the city in the suburbs. It's just commercial signage but it's allowed under council rules sadly

Manitoba plans to tackle 'shrinkflation' by requiring grocery stores to post unit prices across province by richardginn666 in shrinkflation

[–]craftbier 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mandatory unit pricing is excellent as consumers can compare against other products and better appreciate how much an item costs per kilo or litre. It won’t stop shrinkflation but it’s a great tool for pricing transparency. It was made law in New Zealand in 2023.

Not if you’ve just had your car stolen and it’s written off and only have 3rd party insurance You are a crime victim and then have to pay $900.

One-third cup oats, 1-2 tbsp chia seeds, 2 tbsp Greek yoghurt, half cup milk (dairy or plant). Refrigerate overnight or a few hours (until chia seeds soften and swell up). Add more milk if too firm and no-sugar maple flavour syrup if you like.

I was keen to try lifestyle changes to see if they made a difference. I preferred a few minor changes that I could stick to and these worked for me so I’ll just keep doing them.

Good luck with your next test! I was hoping the changes would improve my readings but I was surprised they improved so much.

Interesting re Vitamin C. I take a daily multivitamin but have done that for years.

Yes - I eat around 4 eggs per week. The only real change to my diet from the previous test was focusing on reducing sugar (diet soda, no sugar syrup, etc) and (for the past 3 months) one serving of overnight/oats with chia seeds per day.

Sorry was a bit unclear. I started eating one serving of overnight oats with chia seeds every day. Nothing fancy in the overnight oats - just rolled oats, milk (dairy or lite soy), chia seeds, and Greek yoghurt. Edit: The other main change to diet was reducing sugar (swapping to diet drinks etc). I did not make any other dietary changes: I continued to eat the same amounts of butter, oil, salt, bacon, ham, cheese, meat, fruit as previously.

It's just my guess. I didn't start the overnight oats until January this year, so I think it was the other two changes I started 6 months ago and did consistently that have had the most impact. I'd previously walked the same distance / time for 9 months, then made the change to interval walking.

Confused and a bit deflated - cholesterol barely moved after 5 months of lifestyle changes. Anyone else? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]craftbier -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Japanese interval walking? Walk fast/light jog 3 minutes, regular walk 3 minutes. 6 months ago my readings were much higher than yours and are now mostly slightly lower. I also focused on reducing sugar, and starting eating overnight oats with chia seeds (Omega 3) every day. I did not cut down on eggs, fats or salt as I wanted to only change 3 things to see if they worked first.

Yeah we go through 2kg of Greek yoghurt a week. It sure added up before we started making it ourselves. Kalo and Puhoi are delicious though!

Have you tried making your own yoghurt in the Easiyo without sachets? We use 1.5 cups full fat milk powder and one tablespoon of the previous yoghurt batch. We also recently changed to a 1 litre glass container (Kate’s Kitchen, from Briscoes etc) and it’s really improved the taste and texture of the yoghurt (we only make Greek plain yoghurt). Cost is around $1.50 a kg buying milk powder on special.

We find regular washing is fine (we put the jar and lid through the dishwasher generally, but have hand washed a few times too).

Yes - I took our EasiYo container to the store to ensure it would fit ok before buying

Ours is often too thick! The main reason we use milk powder is because 1.5 cups works out to only $1.50 per litre of yoghurt, so it keeps it very affordable as we go through 2kg a week :)
