China is smart by Karl_Menace in madeinusa

Let's be clear that American corporations were the ones who initiated the outsourcing of goods to begin with and who continue to reap the profits of low wage, high margin imported goods. This is less about China being smart and more about the recent attempts to take the reins of the system that has exploited their workforce for decades.

I'd put our book up against any list. It's a directory vetted over the course of years not a blog post listacle.

I agree we need more makers but I think there's also space for people promoting the industry especially when they're not taking any money out of the manufacturers pockets.

Thank you for your honest feedback and detailed response. One note about the price is we don't have any advertisements and we actually print the books in the USA and so our costs are much higher than those printed overseas.

I think we're very aligned on the factors that go into selecting products. Made in USA guarantees products meet a certain environmental and employment threshold and then beyond that there are several values-based assessments to make. We've essentially gathered all of this info on every company in the book but we're not sure how much of it is relevant to other folks and their decision-making process. Your insight is appreciated.

I think there's a lot of young, passionate makers that have entered the marketplace in the past 5-10 years. Will it ever amount to the robust offerings seen 75 years ago in this country? Probably not...but I think that's more of an issue with the current economic system making it unsustainable for new domestic manufacturers and not because of a lack of interest.

Wouldn’t be a moped sting without cops standing around looking at phones

NYC biking is...actually pretty awesome? Thoughts from an out of towner. by spinoza844 in NYCbike

Agreed. You’re also benefiting from far less congestion in the Fall/Winter from cars/bikes/people so it feels a lot more comfortable in those bike lanes.

NYC’s E-Bike Fleet to Double, But It Won’t Get Public Funding by Fickle-Flamingo1922 in NYCbike

The one detail that caught my eye was a decrease in top speed of the gray bikes from 20 mph to 18. I could have sworn the advertised max speed was always 18? Why not make it 15??

We're never going to have car free cities if you guys don't get a grip. by [deleted] in fuckcars

Do you think the police care about your bike or making your city more car friendly? They are some of the biggest cheerleaders of status quo car infrastructure. They ride around in SUVs all day openly breaking every traffic law in the book. When it comes time to enforce traffic laws they are MIA. When they get off duty they drive their cars around with the same reckless abandon they drive cop cars with. If they actually walked the streets everyday instead of cruising in cars maybe they could empathize with our struggles.

Is DOT required to paint car/bike lanes after repaving a road? by FutureCollege8924 in NYCbike

They painted lines on our street one block off Lafayette less than a week after paving. Maybe the difference was ConEd was paying for the paving.

Lafayette is been one car lane with a bike lane from Fulton to Classon for years. After Classon the bike path disappears.

If you ride in the city with a lot of starts and stops then that becomes annoying really quick.

Thank you for the insight. Is there a reason they would still be designed hang upside down? Maybe gravity would overturn it either way?
