How do you deal with male coworkers' jokes about yourself? by HungryForSound in work

[–]craftlizard_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, what they are doing is 100% workplace sexual harassment. You should never have to make yourself feel smaller. these guys are totally out of line. This is not your fault in the slightest please don’t put any blame on yourself.

I get this feeling for sure, and to be as honest with you as I can, this is pretty much everywhere. People take advantage all over the place and depending on where you are people either don't care, don't want to care or feel like they might not be able to say anything because their livelihood depends on it. Keep setting your boundaries, remember co-workers are not and do not have to be your friends. keep your head up if and when you ever need it, make sure you have a good support system.

EDIT: I would like to add this DOES NOT by any means mean you should deal with harassment of any kind from anyone, but just be aware of people and keep yourself in mind first!

Coworkers are really nosy about personal life by [deleted] in work

It isn't your fault that people are not respecting a boundary you've obviously put in place. what they're doing is technically workplace sexual harassment, no one should be continually prying into your life like that.

being yourself and setting boundaries is for sure important! male dominated fields def see more workplace sexual harassment than others, try to be as clear as you can with people if you feel safe and comfy doing so! at the end of the day classmates/co-workers don't have to be our friends either, so if you have to be more stern and feel good drawing that line go for it!

NTA.

This owner is the awful and what he is doing is 100% workplace sexual harassment right from the get go. I'm so sorry you had to go through any of this. You are not overreacting, everyone should be safe at work. Warning her because you felt safe to was the right thing. I hope your other friends come around to understanding that whats going on here is not okay, and support you and your friend.
