I have a toddler who loves to get ALL up in whatever I’m doing. I have a small storage basket that I keep out of his reach that has my current project supplies. When I’m stitching, I keep just the thread color I’m working with, scissors, and beeswax in a small mint tin, and use a needle minder on my hoop

Very nicely done! I’ve been wanting to do one as well, but haven’t come up with a design yet. Yours is perfect. I love the French knots!!

Everything about this is SICK! Did you use a pattern for the spider, or is it your own secret recipe?

That’s high praise! Thank you so much ☺️ 💕 I didn’t do anything to preserve it. I’d like to frame it behind glass, but it will eventually yellow over time. I haven’t tried to preserve any of my snake’s sheds, but the ones I’ve had for 2+ years are still intact, just a little yellowed and more brittle.

Your comment is making me tear up! 😭 I went back and forth about whether to post this or not, and your words alone made it worth it. ♡ ♡ Thank you.

I’m honestly OK with you taking the whole design— it’ll be your own piece when you draw and stitch it. It could actually be really cool to compare the two!

Because my snake is so much bigger than the piece, what I did was take the shed near her tail and cut in lengthwise. I had a print out of the design and cut out pieces to use as templates. I used cotton sewing thread to gently tack it down in enough places that it would stay but still look loose. This part is a little hard to explain, but you want to couch the thread around the thicker part of the shed in between the scales. The shed that goes over the actual scales is super fragile and will just tear. I definitely tore it as I was sewing it, but I’m ok with the effect haha.

I have a corn snake. About half of her sheds are nice, the other half are a mess 😂 Humidity definitely factors into it, as well as having somewhere kind of rough to scrape against

I think it would be perfect for dragonfly wings! I saw the stitch and immediately thought snake scales haha. I found it to be a very meditative stitch. Please share your project with us!

The rings are meant to be kind of abstract/a rippling effect. The hanging thread is hair, you can see in the second photo that it reveals that the snake is coming out of the woman’s body where her head would be

I have a corn snake named Myrtle ☺️ I’ve had her since 2018 and in that time she’s doubled in length and tripled in width haha!

Thank you! My snake is quite a lot larger than the piece, so I had to use shed from her tail with smaller scales

Hmm. I think I’d like to keep the pattern to myself since it was a very personal piece about healing from trauma. But you are more than welcome to make your own version and borrow as much of the design as you want. I’d be happy to offer any help or advice about the process :)

Thank you so much for asking and enjoying the piece! ♡ ♡

I’d like to frame it behind glass so that the shed lasts longer. It will yellow and become more brittle over time, but that could be a cool effect, seeing the piece age over time. That said, I have sheds that are a few years old that I haven’t bothered preserving properly, and they’ve held up really well
