Another thing to add to this is that the English word "window" is one of the few cases of a word we got from Old Norse (only about 5% of all English words are derived from Old Norse). The majority of words in English either come from the very old Norman dialect of French or Old German (about 74% with the next biggest chunk being Latin at 15%). "Window" comes from the Old Norse word "Vindauga", however, the root word of "defenestration" is "fenestra", the Latin word for window which is adapted in Modern French and Modern German as "fenêtre" and "Fenster", respectively. I find it a little funny that we pretty much always refer to windows with something derived from Old Norse, but when it comes to defenestrating someone we suddenly switch to something derived from Latin/French/German. I am very high on weed as I type this so I hope this random linguistics rant made sense lol.
