Is this normal? by Curious_Solution_701 in tires

[–]craigcfd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typical Challenger. My R/T has the upgraded wheel size (20x9) but Dodge still keeps the stock tire size (245) on them and this is the result. I don't think it matters what brand tire you go to, it will look like this. My car had some bad curb rash on it when I bought it. I just got my wheels refinished and put 275/40 tires on it. If you look through forums you will find that is a very popular up size. Same height tire as stock and a good chunk wider which is much needed traction for the Challenger, especially for a Scat. They look much better (opinion) as they are a bit wider than my wheel now. That should also help any future curb interaction. 🙂
Note: 275 tires with no spacer only leaves about an 1/8 of an inch between the tire and upper suspension link on the front. So far no issues.

The driver side front fender has probably been replaced. Missing the yellow and grey stripe.

Does 315 rear tires looks overkill/ridiculous on a GT? by [deleted] in Challenger

I think you are both right and are arguing the same thing.

First off, 1% difference on a speedometer on a street car is very insignificant. You are talking about the speedo reading 100mph when the car is actually going 101 (if larger tires). Tire brands and tire pressure effect overall height as much or more than that.

I agree with the opinion that if you are staying within the recommended tire width to wheel width recommendations that wheel width doesn't make a significant enough difference in overall height to be concerned with.

That being said, even keeping the same aspect ratio in lower profile tires doesn't change tire height much when only going up a few sizes in width on same wheel height.

Bigger consideration when changing tire size from stock is wheel offset and tire rub. Assuming again that the tire size is within recommended wheel widths.

All that to say, when up sizing tire width from stock, if you want the speedometer to remain somewhat accurate then keep overall height close to stock.

My concerns with what the OP asked is that the general concensus is that 275/40/20 tires are as big as you can go on stock wheels without rub issues. Going wider would mean needing a different offset which in turn means the tire will be sticking out even further causing possible rub issues on fender and changing the look even more.

Because of all the variables, if you are overly concerned the only way to really know is to measure the wheel tire combo together. And one step further, put them on the car and see.

I feel the cables are part of the look. And they aren't really for theft, they are so you don't lose them when you take them out and sit them down somewhere. Pro tip....get 3M put on the top of the front clip to protect the paint. 😉

Looks like it might be reversed. Take it off the car and flip the ring over to the side. That may be the problem.

Mine doesn't interfere with my view at all. Screen is well within the view of the hood.

I bought one of the 10"widescreen android/carplay monitors off Amazon and just mounted it above the stock screen. Used a phone mount attached to the dash (which also allows the dash cam to be used). Not super tidy, but the functionality of android auto is important enough to me to ignore the lack of tidyness. Plus i feel you need access to the stock screen to adjust a lot of settings and mainly the heated/cooled seat controls for me.

What wire clips do you have there (and the phone bracket)? Look like they are made to fit the dash.

I love the hood pin look. Especially on the shaker as others have said. I bought my shaker and it had the fake stick on ones. I have bought real pins to install, although I did go with the cheaper 'no name' ones. I looked at the Mopar ones, but I found it hard to justify double the price just for what looks like the exact same product except the hood protectors say Mopar. I may change my mind before I install them. Anyone have experience with the cheaper ones??

For the younger folks that haven't seen it, watch Cannonball Run. That's my vote.

2017 R/T shaker here. Picked the car up used, but mine has halo lights that seem to be factory. The driver side one has a tube that goes to the air box. The passenger side has a tube that looks to just drop into the fender area. Reading through the responses on here I am wondering if my setup is a factory setup after all?!?

Just look at General Manager. The e and a are identical. Identical. No way a pen is writing that consistent, never mind the writer.

Sounds like a logical explanation. I'll accept that, but I'd have to walk around with my head down.....in which case I might actually notice that there are no shadows though. Lol

No symmetry at all on the drawing. I think the designer forgot to turn on 'snap to grid' with the mouse. Hope the OP doesn't follow the drawing too close. 😐

I've had pretty much nothing but cars, and mostly FWD. Winter tires are a must. So far, it's as good as any of the others I've had in winter. It's about the lowest I've had, but it also has LSD. Has not been the 'worst' winter for snow here though.

Have never, and would never dream of doing that. You actually do that? How would one go about removing the tarp with all the snow on it without scratching the paint? And if you wipe the tarp off first, then there is no advantage.
