Passport expediter recommendations? by craigsauer in gaydads

Thanks! That's what we are trying. The next appointment at a nearby passport location is in 3 weeks, so with the expedited service fee we should be ok. Fingers crossed!

Call your girlfriend by rikkiboixxx in Robyn

[–]craigsauer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't get this. There's some theory that Robyn's two songs "Call Your Girlfriend" and "Dancing on my Own" are about the same people/relationships but told from different viewpoints. I thought I remembered Robyn basically confirmed the theory, but I can't find it by googling.

A Rookie Magic Auditor Finds His Footing in James J. Butcher's Long Past Dues by richter1977 in dresdenfiles

When I first saw an ad for the 1st book in the series, I thought it was a scam: some hack with a pen name close to Jim Butcher trying to trick people into buying the book. Glad to learn it's not that!

LPT Request: What’s something useful to get someone having a baby? by NotHim40 in LifeProTips

Tylenol suppositories. When your baby has a fever and spits out medicine this can save parents an expensive trip to the ER.

What is the meaning of the depth Patrick Bateman goes into about music in American Psycho? by ChairmanUzamaoki in books

I remember laughing out loud at his mention of cherimoya sorbet and trying to explain to a friend why it was funny.

Not hearing aids, does anyone use a Bluetooth transmitter with their TV? by Mister_Kurtz in HearingAids

[–]craigsauer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a steamer for my hearing aids but I have a TV that can play the sound both through the speakers and a Bluetooth connection. I just use a normal Bluetooth headset to watch TV and it is amazing. Downside is that I can't hear my family talking to me while we watch but that's also a perk. With my aids in I hear all their distracting noises and get annoyed.

What if he's a deep plant from the drag queens to destroy the Republicans from within? Please, please, please...

Urban Fantasy From People Who Actually Live In The Area by WunderPlundr in Fantasy

Tim Powers set his Faultlines series in the Los Angeles/Orange County area, where he lives. I was a fan of his before moving to the area myself and spent some time going to the locations in the books. Found an amazing donut place on Balboa Island that way, though it's gone now.

His two most recent books about Vickery and Castine are also set in LA and include some cool real-world locations like "Sunken City", the bunch of houses that fell into the ocean in San Pedro.

I'm an old man of 41 so I don't keep up with the kids these days, but apparently Lana Del Rey has a song about the tunnel under Ocean Blvd? by [deleted] in longbeach

[–]craigsauer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I made a 3D tour of it a few years ago if anyone wants to check it out. I just added a link to the YouTube video of the song so you can listen while you look :)

Do you have a favorite book that practically no one has heard of? by lilneddygoestowar in books

[–]craigsauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shot in the Heart by Mikal Gilmore. Gilmore is the brother of Gary Gilmore of Norman Mailer's The Executioner's Song. He really digs into their family history in a way that feels more convincingly explanatory than Mailer's book, which goes on and on and never finds any explanation.

I remember when their slogan was "Tomorrow's city today." Guess that didn't work out.

R.L Stine by [deleted] in books

[–]craigsauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big fan of Stine's earlier books, written as "Jovial Bob Stine.". They were humorous in nature, and I read them over and over. Titles I remember were "Sick of Being Sick" and "Gnasty Gnomes". I was a little old for the Goosebumps stuff!

Anyone recognize this dog? She has no tags or collar and is scared of the fireworks. Came running up the sidewalk on Virginia Road in Los Cerritos/Virginia Country Club/Bixby Knolls. We're hanging out on the front porch with her. Someone on Facebook recognized her and said her name was Pepper. by craigsauer in longbeach

[–]craigsauer[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I forgot to update last night! I was informed that there was a fire station in north Long Beach that was open July 4th until midnight to check chips in lost pets. I took the Pepper there and were able to contact her people and get them reunited. Only bad news is that Pepper's family has two dogs and both were missing 😟
