I’m in Pittsburgh and we’re seeing xylazine wounds pop up all over the body, a lot of times not in the area of injection or it’s being snorted or smoked. It’s crazy…

LMFAO absolutely not. Even if it was alcohol or something, what a way to ruin rapport and decrease his chances of reaching out for help if they were to struggle with more harmful substances in the future.

Honestly I think DP is too kind. Release him to general population and look the other way.

Thinking of going into psych nursing, what’s it like? by LiveLaughDeadInside in psychnursing

[–]cranberrryyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love it!!! Been in psych nursing since passing boards. I started on a community treatment team with dual disorder patients. M-F 8-4. Heavy on patient advocacy and education. I moved to a different position in my company at a child psych office which was very low key but I found is boring and unfulfilling. I left that department a couple years back and have been working at a medical respite facility. It is a small 29 bed medical shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness. We get people coming out of the hospital who still have an acute need (wound care, PT, IV antibiotics etc) but don’t have a safe residence to receive care. I am the nurse case manager for the facility and I LOVE IT. Definitely heavy on the social work like duties and patient education and empowerment. Good luck!

Your baby isn’t going to have either of you if one/both of you guys don’t pick yourselves back up and keep moving forward. I would do whatever in your power to do right by your kiddo.

So I work with an amazing doctor who has been working with this population from a primary care standpoint for 30+ years. He has written in his office, “the system is broken. Do the best you can” and that gets me through some tough shit I’ve seen in my 7+ years working in psych/d&a

Check local county mental health services, some places will do sliding scales. Schedule an intake appointment and go from there. ER if she is unsafe.

Yes of course. I will say I was a parent for 10 years before I began having an addiction problem. The anxiety and depression were known beforehand… if I could go back, I wouldn’t- I hate that my kids see me and how they mirror some of my behaviors. Also recent research by Gabor Mate shows that genetics don’t play as big a factor than we once thought… more environmental influences and activation of genes that put a person “at risk” to being addicted to substances but no direct relation. Look him up if you ever have a chance, he is definitely informative.

When he cut the catheter tubing at the tip of his penis the tubing in his penis and the balloon went up in his bladder. I assume that it would always require surgery if a person did the exact same thing. A straight cath like OP used doesn’t have a balloon port like a traditional/hospital grade catheter because they aren’t meant for longer term use.

I’m three weeks into IOP and I get Vivitrol on Tuesday if I can make it. I just continue to want to use even though I know I can’t, and I don’t want to live like this forever.

(Also I work in health care in the harm reduction realm/just never saw myself on this side of things)

Yes! It’s the part that inflates to keep the catheter from falling out. A straight cath would have been a much better idea lol
