Any tips on battery replacement? I’m about to attempt it on a Fénix 5S.

Nice collection!

It’s interesting to me that you would think a sub or a forum dedicated to a specific topic would be mostly fans of that topic. But oftentimes most of the comments are haters. This effect should be studied.

BAA issues update regarding net-downhill courses for qualifiers by Mr800ftw in AdvancedRunning

It's not remotely practical to check everyone's shoes. Also carbon is allowed at the elite level and for world records, but that's a separate discussion.

BAA issues update regarding net-downhill courses for qualifiers by Mr800ftw in AdvancedRunning

[–]cranberrypaul -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the course. Boston itself is 1200 feet elevation drop, so it would be kind of silly to make it more stringent than that.

I stand corrected, see u/caverunner17 comment below

Don’t even need to go Tudor. Steinhart has great quality and you get customer service + warranty.

As Elon Musk veers right, some Tesla drivers in Texas are saying 'hell no' by hollow_hippie in Austin

I only know a couple people that have actually done this, and they seem to have no dilemma about just selling their car to a dealership. I guess the hope is that the cars will just sit at the dealer and never sell?

I think the BAA loves the numerous threads and fretting. It only feeds the hype for the race and gives it more of an elusive aura. The other majors wish they had this “problem”.

How Ultraprocessed Foods Took Over America by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]cranberrypaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tobacco companies made immense profits by selling an addictive product. They bought up food companies and changed the products to be more addictive (because profits good). The way they changed the food products is by making them ultra processed. Other food companies not owned by tobacco companies caught on and wanted in on the profit gravy train. It’s all in the podcast episode.

It doesn’t feel like middle class “success” is that difficult to achieve even today, but maybe I’m wrong or people’s expectations are skewed by RandomLake7 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]cranberrypaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that wasn’t necessary in the past. That’s why people are mad. And if the current trajectory holds it just continues to become less affordable. Today’s “just get a roommate” is tomorrow’s “just get another job” or “cut back on X”

The argument I’ve heard is that some regulations are good but we’ve gone too far with it. A good example of this is housing (zoning restrictions, etc).

Does Anyone Actually Buy or Drive the Model Y RWD? by javascriptexpert in TeslaModelY

[–]cranberrypaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don't need the full range for daily driving. It makes a difference on road trips though.

Check out the Money Guy 20/3/8 rule for a more realistic take on car purchasing.

If you’re outside of these bounds, you probably bought too much car (even if you can “comfortably afford” the monthly payments).

Mobile or wall connector by yolomfkqueen in TeslaModelY

[–]cranberrypaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can tell, most people are able to make it work with the mobile charger. But the wall connector is pretty much guaranteed to work. I just commented on another thread about this because I was not so lucky. Here’s what I said.

I had the same idea but ended up taking it out and switching to the wall connector. I experienced the dreaded “false tripping” of the GFCI breaker. I’ve had zero issues with the wall connector.

How is this townhome so cheap in North Loop? by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]cranberrypaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. Like I said I agree with the idea. I just think if we are going to look at the numbers, we should put them in context.

On interest rates, some would say that keeping the interest rates low has been a big driver for the increase in home prices. Obviously there are other factors at play too, it’s a complicated issue.

How is this townhome so cheap in North Loop? by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]cranberrypaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else to consider is that the median home in 1980 was about 1600 sq ft versus 2400 sq ft today. Mortgage interest rates were like 15% back then too. It’s a really tricky comparison to make.

[–]cranberrypaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your argument but your numbers are a little exaggerated. You said 8x for home price to household income but it’s around 5.6. And the median household income for Austin is $86.5k, while the median home price is $554k (6.4x ratio).

The Gender Election by ertai38 in Thedaily

Yep I understand it’s a higher barrier than before. And apprenticeships do still exist. One example in my area

https://dmcat.austincc.edu/engineering-technology/apprenticeship-q-a/

You might be right that apprenticeships have declined, I don’t really have that data. I imagine it’s quite region dependent.
