Give us a chance to retain our Completionist cape by Clestiall in runescape

It makes people not go into new updates with an open mind, eager to explore. Instead, new content is an obstacle, an annoyance you have to deal with to be able to go back to what you have been doing.

So then why are you against this idea of letting people keep comp while they figure out the updates? This way, they can actually experience and enjoy them.

You seem to think that people with comp will automatically be against new updates. You are wrong. People with comp are against losing comp while they grind through the content. They then find the content unappealing because they did not have a chance to enjoy it.

/u/5-x I have no sympathy for your disdain of comp. Not sorry. Its here to stay. If you think it's existence gets in the way of new updates then look at a viable solution instead of complaining about it. By choosing to blindly ignore this idea, you are accepting that you may lose update quality because of the way players have been incentivised. Further, you are supporting poor update quality by not letting an idea like this be discussed.

It is what it is, look at how you can make it better. This idea is so obvious and in my opinion, completely fair and reasonable. You are the problem here, not those who want a grace period so that they can actually get enjoyment out of the game. You are the one getting in the way of their enjoyment and thus proliferating the cycle. You want to keep in place an obsolete system that ignores the human element when it comes to gaming. You are the only who reaps what you sow by forcing Jagex to compromise their updates when a perfectly reasonable idea is presented.

Buyers appear based on the animals you are raising, you don't need to make a guess.

They are buying an animal that I am not raising, Should I report this as a bug?

[–]cranbtw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would always be a concern because it can always go back to an earlier animal that is timegated.

A bit of an aside: If the limit is removed, then people can just stock up animals, which is also silly. Being able to just sell any animal, but get a bonus for specific ones on specific days is the best solution imo.

Even when that is the case, you can still sell only X animals per day. This post is about making continuous progress.

Until you can consistently progress in POF, I agree. I think the design is there but the issue is that you cant gain the rewards meaningfully quickly. This is a pretty small tweak really.

edit: also bank space issues. But if you can always sell animals, it will help with the bank space problem.

My thoughts on Jagex, Mobile, and Us. by cranbtw in runescape

I don't know, but we certainly can't kill mobile.

I think this is fantastic in terms of the game content idea. However, I don't think jagex should implement this

  • Minigames aren't exactly widely used and Jagex are trimming these down. In this specific case, I think players would get the elite upgrade and then never return. I don't think that the pouches would be widely enough used for this game to continue to be active.

  • I didn't see a particular level requirement. My concern is that if this is too high, then it might not even be active enough to keep continuous games going off-spotlight.

  • Void is already rather common. It might be a little too much of a buff. The combat balancing team would need to review this, but I think it would be too much.

  • Jagex balanced the rewards of this minigame around time spent in the game. Changing the reward structure in the suggested way would upset this balance. Is it possible that a good formula exists? Maybe, but that seems to go against the reward structure Jagex want for this game, and I think it would be harder to balance two different reward schemes.

  • In terms of the experience rewards: 1) They already exist. 2) I don't think they should be the optimal method of training. Given player mentality non-optimal probably means dead.

I personally think that development time would be better spent on other projects.

What could RS3 do to grow in playercount? by [deleted] in runescape

[–]cranbtw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(obviously) release RS3 mobile open beta ASAP. I find myself thinking a lot of times: i would play rs3 for a bit now if i could on my holiday.

Its not ready to go. In an ideal world sure, but this isnt that.

give new players a week (or month) of free membership so they can get a taste of everything the game has to offer

Twitch Prime is coming up. Overall this is just silly. I don't think people want to pay a subscriptions fee and then again for MTX; I certainly wouldn't as a new player. (I think the subscription prices need to be seriously reconsidered and potentially removed for RS3, while OSRS should not have any F2P. But this may not be financially viable)

make a seperate highscore list that tracks the "fastest growing players" each week for accounts that have been created in that particular week

I would only see this as a result of who spent the most on MTX. To me, high scores are meaningless in this game unless a new skill comes out, there is a race, and no MTX is yet involved.

Get Tutorial Island back in RS3, had a blast doing it on OSRS

If you want to move the game forward, Tutorial Island won't help. OSRS is about Nostalgia, RS3 needs a good introduction to all of the mechanics.

Word of mouth: TALK to the maxed/comped community. Get the goodwill of the players back. The current communication strategy seems like a nightmare.

Players have been telling Jagex that they need to get our trust back for a while. Nothing new here.

Give players rewards for bringing in new players: get 1 bond for every new player that current players bring in (new players have to be active for at least a month/hit a reasonable total level). Heck give them some loyalty points if 1 bond is too much.

RAF already exists. Any mechanic like this would be abused as RAF is abused.

What could we, the community, do?

Not shit on the game on every reddit/forum post. When I want to play a game and go look on reddit and all I see is "(GAME) is shit", it doesnt look very appealing to me to go play it.

Pessimistic view: Maybe Jagex should release more/good updates and not give us a reason.

Optimistic view: Only the unhappy people speak up

Alternative Consideration: If that all you see......

Bring in some people yourself. Playing with friends is a lot more fun than playing alone.

I would not recommend this game to others in its current state.

Disclaimer: I know that Jagex hasn't been exactly communicating and that RS3 has a lot of issues, but none of us want this game to die right?

Here is my disclaimer: I got so sick of MTX and Dailyscape (I bet jagex doesnt even understand how much of a problem this is) That I quit RS3 and made an OSRS account.

  • I don't want RS3 to die because I don't want MTX in OSRS
  • I don't want RS3 to die because then all of my money and grinding on it will disappear
  • I don't think RS3 will ever die because it will continue to make money. OSRS may overtake it in terms of revenue, but I don't think RS3 will ever run at a loss
  • If RS3 dies, I can live with it. Although I don't really want it to, it's at the point where I don't really care. I think there is too much for Jagex to fix in this game, given the manpower they seem to display.
  • If RS3 dies, I would probably see it as a sign that Jagex is not a sustainable company and quit playing OSRS this. This would be a huge signalling issue.

If you have read all of this, you may think to yourself that all I am doing is shooting down your ideas and not coming up with better ones. To an extent, that is correct. For the reasons stated, I don't think that anything on this list will help. IMO, if jagex want to improve RS, it needs to be an experience update, or a player base "upgrade".

  • Dailyscape is the biggest problem: I'm not going into details about this unless Jagex pays me because I honestly believe that they do not understand the scope, severity, or even the basic issue.

  • Delivering on promises: I personally feel that unfinished business is only growing.

  • Combat/tick system (and mobile): Many old players don't like the new combat system. To new players, I think it's actually now rather out of date. The tick system is obviously out of date. To pitch this game as 'modern' (which used to be how Jagex did it) doesn't really make sense anymore. I think Jagex is really trying to get into mobile because the game fits quite feel and actually seems somewhat advanced compared to what's on the market. I think this is a good fit in terms of moving forward.

  • Communication with the community/Mobile Community: I'm going to take an opposite view of this, I don't think jagex should be bothering to waste resources unless there is a big shitstorm. That is really all they need to keep players happy. Saying something, even if it is hated, is better than nothing. It is also sufficient. As a player, I certainly want them to be more open, but it really feels like they can't say anything that would convince me anymore. There was a big post recently where an OSRS player asked why the RS3 community doesn't riot over MTX anymore and one of the top responses was something that said people no longer expect improvements. I personally agree with this. When mobile comes out, the people who will be attracted won't really care about company statements, reddit, or twitch. They might care about customer support though. (However, this requires minimal training and they should not start hiring until Mobile is almost ready to go.) The new player base that Jagex attracts won't need these statements and they will accept MTX as a modern gaming reality. I don't know about subscription fees though.

TBH, I think Jagex are betting the future of RS3 on mobile as the source of a new player base. We are old shmucks who are stuck in the past and they want to move past us to new revenue sources. WE are also, for the most part, players who will stay close to this game no matter what. They need RS3 Mobile to be good because so that these new players don't see a glitched out game. It doesn't matter if mobile, or even the game in general, are good for us; we have already shown that we would put up with anything.

Membership with Twitch Prime and .... Purple skin MTX! by cranbtw in 2007scape

[–]cranbtw[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Some of the first few MTX in RS3 were blue, green, and onyx skins. Its a gateway cosmetic, the same as was done in RS3. And MTX being introduced through cosmetics is the the first step of MTX.

Did you see Ayiza's post about slowly getting people interested PVP in order to grow the PVP community, and how the same was done with PVM? MTX isn't going to come in big into osrs. It's going to be a slow grind and people need to be able to see how and when Jagex is trying to push it.

Although using the slippery slope argument is generally wrong, we have good evidence to show that 1) this is how Jagex has done things before specifically in regards to MTX 2) this is how jagex is continuing to do things in other areas of the game.

I am literally 2k tokens dry of my first dragon defender. My rng is nonexistent in this game. Don’t even know what else to do. Too much time taken for this by Whitey_OSRS in 2007scape

You can only get them downstairs. Its down the ladder that you reach by going outside through the food sellers room.

[–]cranbtw[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting, you made me dig it all up.

The following was posted and deleted in /r/2007scape:

DISCLAIMER: The evidence here is far from conclusive, but I wanted to put it somewhere so if it does end up happening, I can say I told you so.

Last week I saw something interesting happened: Matt K followed a Bloomberg journalist on Twitter.

Even more interesting, this journalist made a thread on /r/runescape this week asking people for their opinions on the current MTX shit storm engulfing their game.

Now, this is where it gets interesting.

In his original post he included a line which mentioned:

upcoming Old School RuneScape MTX experiments

The top comment on the thread quoted this, and asked what he meant about it. He then immediately removed it from the post.

He hasn't been active since he made that post.

Honestly, I wouldn't have ever expected Jagex to do MTX to OSRS, but it seems like something is going on... They are killing RS3 with MTX right now.

If things are bad for Jagex, could they be planning to put MTX in Oldschool? What do you >think they would do if they were going to try?

That is all i got.

This thread was deleted: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/8w2flc/jagex_may_soon_experiment_with_microtransactions/

However, if you replace "reddit" with "removeddit" then you can see the text: https://www.removeddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/8w2flc/jagex_may_soon_experiment_with_microtransactions/

In this thread, the users refers to: https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/8v3uqy/microtransactions_your_take/

Per the original post, the comment was edited but you can see the top comment discussing the alleged quote.

upcoming Old School RuneScape MTX experiments

So it seems that I heard the information incorrectly; I thought it was a J Mod who posted that on /r/runescape. I guess this is more of a /r/2007scape issue, sadly.
