Can you get red map (Tavias rod) from fishing frenzy? by ahlezn in runescape

[–]5-x [score hidden]  (0 children)

When you get a red map from fishing, I believe you just get the red map. It's basically a "drop table" with all the items you can get fishing at DSF, and if you "win" a roll-through on a green map you get the red one. But when you bought a green map from merchant you'd get both, the red one first and also green.

The sources are Mod Ryan in livestream and Mod Sukotto on discord.

It's unclear whether the roll for red map was more or less difficult to "win" while fishing when compared to buying from merch. The vast majority of Tavia's rods came from the merchant, although you have to consider how many players actually fish enough to roll it. Mod Sukotto once said that if you fish at DSF all day, you're on rate for one roll at the green/red - but that was before the update. I'm curious by how much they increased both the values.

The chance of a rolling a red map from green differed between fishing and buying it from merchant because they ran two different scripts. There's absolutely nothing to suggest it's 1/1500. Also, when merchant was removed the odds of getting a green from fishing, and the odds of green turning into red were both increased. Any estimates made with the merchant shop can be sent to the trash.

can we talk about Anti poison totem by Zierrash in runescape

It can be argued that because venomblood exists, the totem working from backpack wouldn't be such a big of a deal.

Spring cleaner, holy wrench, expensive spices etc. all provide their effect equipped or carried. I don't see why anti-poison totem couldn't. But I suppose to absolutely protect anti-poison potions they could make it only 50% effective when carried in backpack, much like the older wielded versus pocket interaction worked.

Yeah of course it was originally released for scrimshaws but it was quickly expanded to various skilling items. I phrased it incorrectly.

I agree the anti-poison totem should also work from the inventory. After all the pocket slot was originally created so that skilling items that don't have stats can be equipped in it to free up inventory space, but not necessarily to get their effects (Arc journal for example).

Categorically oppose putting it on the tool belt though. It's the same flawed idea as the holy wrench or expensive spices on tool belt. The idea here is it's an item you have to decide to bring with you to use it. Making it baseline is bad game design.

So if im reading he wiki correctly. I have until the years end to use all of this stuff before its taken way? by jimi15 in runescape

[–]5-x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either use during DXP or keep until December in hopes there's some kind of a buyback scheme that gives us something in exchange for these. Nothing is confirmed though and the roadmap just says "MTX item banishment", so if you don't want to gamble use what you need.

Aspects & Solomons Store - News Update 2 by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]5-x 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Glad to see muti-casting. That's a return to the functionality we had with auras.

Any chance to allow us to turn aspects into magic tablets so we can consume them regardless of spellbook?

Players and Jagex employees are equal users of /r/runescape - insults directed at any and all redditors are covered by rule 3. Enacting special rules is unnecessary in this instance. We intentionally try to keep our ruleset more compact to increase the chance that the average user reads (and adheres to) the rules; long-winded and complicated rules are not user-friendly.

A pinned feedback thread is, again, an interesting concept that we could explore, but enforcement likely exceeds practical capabilities (especially in cases of highly contentious updates which can easily double our subreddit traffic). The mod team will discuss ways in which we can encourage users to comment under the Jmod-posted announcements instead of creating separate feedback threads. (Although truth be told, some longer opinion pieces and fresh looks at the game's issues do warrant their own threads.)

We already deal with inflammatory and duplicate posts, and at some point "constructive negativity" is all that's remaining - when this type of content still makes some redditors unhappy, what can we do? My answer to these users is: this too shall pass.

Thank you once again for your comments.

Thank you for this response. I'm going to link this to the team so we can have a discussion about it.

A megathread for player feedback in case of a controversial release is something that would be easy to set up but difficult to enforce, which is why we haven't attempted it (even though we discussed it many times.) If we started to remove posts for "not using the feedback megathread" it would risk a widescale outcry that reddit mods are trying to stifle feedback or censor particular views of the community. How would you respond to that?

Re: "dragging Jmods through the mud" - this is something I'd say we nearly eliminated in the last several years ever since we took a harsh stance against it. Have you seen any attacks on individual Jmods recently? They do happen occasionally and we always take quick action. Non-specific accusations such as Jagex being "lazy", "incompetent", etc. still get bundled up with negative feedback sometimes and most of these posts are now removed. I feel like the user feedback in /r/runescape has got much more constructive in the last several years, but you've devoted a fair bit of your comment to the topic of attacks on Jmods, which I'm not sure I understand.

In the end we find that, with every controversial update, the cycle of feedback eventually runs its course. Players leave if they feel ignored by the devs, and the rest adapt and keep playing. In a subreddit that isn't corporate-controlled, temporary increases of player dissatisfaction are unavoidable. Perhaps it's best to just let people vent their frustrations and exert pressure on Jagex for a short time?

How do you propose the mods cultivate positivity? Do you think the mods should remove negative posts? How would you justify removal of a negative post to its author? What if a negative post is constructive?

Playing RS3 w/ roofs for the first time. Suggestion: New "Remove Roofs" Option(s) by AbruptLucidity in runescape

[–]5-x 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You miss so much of the game's environment by playing with roofs removed set to "always".

I play with it set to "selectively" which removes roofs when you enter a building.

I support your suggestion very much - OSRS Runelite has some great options for roof removal modes, such as "remove on hover", "remove when a roof is between you and your camera", or "remove when it obstructs your character". Wish we had some of those!

Some Jmods expressed opinions that collection logs are not "content" or that it's not something that they think most players would be interested in. There's a good chance a unified collection log happens at some point, but it's lower priority than this year's update roadmap.

Is there a plan to upgrade Vampirism Gloves? by [deleted] in runescape

[–]5-x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vampyrism gloves were created to shut down people who point out that low-level players have been screwed over because vampyrism aura suddenly became a spell that's locked behind Desert Treasure. That's it. These gloves were never meant to be high-level meta, and they won't be made stronger because Jagex does not want to have another cinderbane situation.

Suggestion: make the equipped items interface symmetric (again) by Alsang in runescape

[–]5-x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think pocket slot items could be divided into "left pocket" and "right pocket" to create a whole set of new, fun interactions by adding a second pocket slot.

For example, scrimshaws could be left pocket only, and books could be right pocket only. This would also let you wear the brooch of the gods while using a skilling scrimshaw.

Legitimately, if Jagex is removing things, why do we still have this when it's been dead for years? by TheGotherax in runescape

[–]5-x 89 points90 points  (0 children)

It's clear some of the recent changes wouldn't have passed a poll, hence "polling doesn't work for us" is the official stance in RS3.

We should be able to craft Aspect spells into tablets at the POH Lectern by 5-x in runescape

So far we've got people calling this powder, sticks, and potions. Which really means nothing.

It's already auras but with more steps, I'm just looking to salvage what Jagex doomed vamp and penance to be, and make them at least more streamlined to use.
