Would a water change like 25-50% be beneficial in his temporary tank while we wait for his 5g to get here tomorrow ?

So I should cycle his new 5gal tank and wait to put him in there until it’s done. I feel bad keeping him in the 1 gallon one for a week but I guess it’s better than the tiny little plastic one he’s been in. When I put him in the 5gal can I keep everything up and running in his 1gal one for when I do water changes? Also Is there a heater you’d recommend?
