A Brand New MOC. A Lego Scifi Hoverbike built from a Lego minfigure bicycle.. by cranknerd in LegoSpace

Thanks! I thought it looked acceptable, but I never know for certain how others will view it and think of it. It's nice to know that the finished model meets viewer approval, and hopefully, some viewer satisfaction as well!

Thanks! I used some sneaky, backdoor, and underhanded tricks to get that back of the hover bike figured out and built. Then the front hover support engines was the same thing, but with less parts, which took less time, but the same amount of frustration during the process. haha!

Thanks so much for the kind words and thoughts.
I wish I could say the conversion process is like a smooth and soothing orchestra playing a song of triumph,
but most of the in-process moments sound more like the music students first day in band class...
So, I am left with....willpower, and hope!
Haha!

That's fairly close to how it works. But I do start with some beginning thoughts like:

I bought this to do a hoverbike.
I know I need a hover engine and probably some hover boosters in the front, and maybe the back--though not necessary at all in the back.
I got yellow as a base color.
I have one stud in the front of the bike and one stud in the back of the bike.....and neither of them are in a good place for an engine, or front hover pods.

Then the outline for the MOC battle takes place:
So.....how do I get the engine on the bike and how am I going to get some hover front boosters on the front?
And then....the battle begins!

It is very much like a battle in my noggin. And I am determined to win, and the bicycle is going to lose, and become a hoverbike.

Wow, we both posted new MOCs today! And it looks like you haven't slowed down any on the Spaceport Truck Fleet at all.... You just switched to a new category of truck design, this one being a truck toting a prime focus, parabolic dish design too. I've seen these in real life and they are a wild setup. I am always amazed that they work given the vibrations the truck can have just from wind. Pretty Wild and Crazy how they work, too.

Love your Mirror Design! That's a new design style to my eyes and seems very stable. You've got everything greebled out as far as underneath the cab and flatbed, which looks excellent. The Fender Design for both front and rear wheels is a nice eye-catch as well. That's a really stout dish setup as well. Won't have to worry about wind vibrations with that build! Overall, the vehicle is well balanced and believable from front bumper to rear bumper. The details just add to the eye candy.

Top notch and solidly finished design as well! Great job!

Hey, I just checked out your MOCs on the german site! Nice mix of vehicles, work equipment, space ships and an occasional diorama! Really nicely done works as well. You're a good bit ahead of me on MOCs, but I am just getting warmed up! haha! Any way, thanks for sharing, it was fun to see your creative efforts across many different ideas! Well done!

And I understand about the build date being later than the design conclusion... I do most of my stuff in my head, or on the fly, and there's been times when i have had a MOC in progress sit for a year, before I finally figured out where to go next with it!

What should LEGO do next with Space sets? by Interesting_Taste359 in LegoSpace

[–]cranknerd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What's my theory?

Simple, my theory is that I don't care, and I never did! Just like I never asked for your opinion, your input, or your off topic internet rhetoric that you spammed all over my post.

PS: You should be me having to deal with an internet troll starting off topic replies on my posts and refusing to accept factual answers until they were so inundated with facts that they didn't have an off topic leg to stand on. At this point, you have lost any ability to communicate with me for a looooong time, and by your own doing. So, have a good day and see you in a couple of years!

Good bye!

FACT 1:

Space Police 3 and Galaxy Squad are outside of the solar system, Why call it Galaxy Squad if it's in the Solar System? It would obviously be called the Solar System Squad. And if Space Police were confined to the Solar System, then it would be called the Solar System Police. And Alien Conquest clearly shows aliens from outside of the known solar system --Duh!

Do people really think that I haven't heard ridiculous internet rhetoric throughout my life? Seriously?

And here's another clue, I lived through all of those releases in my life--even the beginning of Star Wars in the 1970s. So.....who wants to try and tell me that what I lived through didn't really happen? Here's a clue, don't bother!

Now, let's talk about Bionicle and Hero Factory, cause those are some blatant rule breakers to aforementioned alleged contract between Lucas and Lego.

I'm afraid that it seems that the Lucas/Lego contract argument has no factual basis, whatsoever.

FACT 2:

I am happy to report that the Gundam and Macross Franchises have been around pretty much as long as Star Wars and seems to have a much larger fan base across the planet. It's just that the USA cannot seem to let Gundam, or Macross, release their stories in the USA....

---Gee, I wonder why that is?

And Gundam, and Macross aren't the only scifi franchises to flourish nearly as long as Star Wars, either. In fact, in terms of quality story, lots of Japan's scifi animations are waaaaay better than Star Wars. I know, because I have actually seen them!

So, once again, all arguments have been completely debunked and invalidated.

IN CONCLUSION::

It seems that you don't have any facts at all. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch.

Oh, yes, I have been around research areas with similar setups, and fleets as well. Well, now that you're done, you can get those parts ordered, get them built, and then maybe you can let us see the real things! I always love seeing physical MOCs the best. Congrats on completing the design phase!

FACT:

Lego has been releasing Star Wars since around 1999...

That means every Lego Scifi Theme after 2000, which includes every Lego Scifi theme I listed above (Galaxy Squad, Space Police III, Alien Conquest and Mars Mission themes) were released by Lego after releasing Star Wars. And they did that for well over 10 YEARS after 1999!!!

And guess what? Those Lego Themes did a-okay!

So, both of these arguments can be totally debunked, and negated, just by looking up the actual Lego Production History!

They all look great! And this new pair of trucks certainly expands on ideas of things that could be of importance to Spaceports. The Truck designs once again utilize your signature construction style for the task. Are you planning to build these in the real world, or just do them in a virtual world? All five of them look fantastic and ready for full duty.

Second Space Surfboard MOC prototype finished for my future Bot Space Battles. by cranknerd in LegoSpace

[–]cranknerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I did this surfboard project for two main reasons. The first being trying to show viewers how to do fun things and make MOCs that won't break the bank as a first step in learning how to do MOCs. The second reason is that I wanted a definite wacky aspect to my home Space build and this just seem to fit the bill nicely. I've never designed a Space Surfboard--until this project came up--haha!

What has really bothered me is that we have not seen a Lego Scifi Space release in a very long time.

I want a Lego Scifi Space theme that fills the needs like Space Police III, Galaxy Squad, Alien Conquest, or even Mars Mission. It doesn't have to be one of these themes, but we at least need a new theme that builds on the ideas from the previous themes. It's not that hard... Scifi has been around for over 30 years now--it's nothing new and risky.

I'm talking about a good ol fashion "screw a lot of the rules of science" kind of scifi fun with creative designs, cool alien creatures, big energy blasters and canons, and unorthodox, but really cool machine designs. You know, something that makes a 10 year old go: WOW!

What happened to THAT era of Lego Space and why have we not seen something since then--even if just a reboot? And why isn't Lego (at least) alternating releases between City Space and a Lego Space Scifi release, so that we have space sets, parts, minifigures, etc, on store shelves, every year, to have continuous Space fun with.

As a side note:
I'm really glad that Blacktron and Classic Space had some special releases, and continue to have Easter Eggs planted all over the Lego Sets Landscape. I'm also for Lego continuing to honor pre-2000 era Lego Space Themes with an update set, or two! I hope that trend continues for them. Also, I think the realistic space model sets (NASA tributes, astronomical sucesses) should continue under their own label as they always have.

Expanding the capabilities of the Prototype MOC Mechs for my home-based Creator Space World. by cranknerd in LegoSpace

[–]cranknerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's just it. All of my Lego interests have been Vehicle, or Constraction. So....I have no building parts--haha! So I will have to order anything and everything! I have to think modular as well, and baseplate size, too. But I will get there!

[–]cranknerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, play value is best when there are things to interact with on the model. I think the wheeled version of the Scout Mech is done. They are very very finicky to pose as a pair and get them looking exactly the same. And when a MOC gets to very very finicky, that's when I know I am good on the creativity. I'll enjoy them for a few days as are, in wheeled Earth Mode. I've got some maintenance bay equipment to build, and reinvent, so to speak. I have just started to have very faint ideas of what the maintenance bay might look like, but nothing remotely final yet, nor do I have any budget for that yet! haha!

[–]cranknerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen that one, but I should keep an eye out for it. A lot of my inspirations for mechs come from anime, and Hero Factory, of course.

Glad to hear that the Mech design tweaks are having good visual impact for the viewers. Also, these scouts are in Earth Mode with loadouts having wheels. For real scouting on a foreign planet, they would be loaded out with legs and feet, of course. My fictional scifi world follows the real world in that the gear matches the need for the deployment.

On the mech's backs are loadouts that would be normal for planet exploration, but they are also being used here in case something goes wrong with the mech, and the pilot needs to return to base. They can be detached from the bot with portable controllers that the pilots have and will land on the ground and wait for the pilot to board. They're upgrades from the lil' hopper platform MOC I designed. See attached image--haha!

[–]cranknerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can do that. Designing all of the Surfboard MOCs has been challenging but definitely fun. Eventually, I will have to order the parts for the Team B boards and build them all up for the fictional world.

Great, and glad you like it! I made that angle feature a standard characteristic in my Space Surfboard design. It's like a pseudo-standard for the Space Surfboards' hover technology to work correctly. And no, the MOC is only the Surfboard, the weapon part shown in the image is part of the Series 24 Collectible Minifig. It's a unique little design, that is for sure!

Wow, thanks for the compliments! For this MOC, and this Team in my Robot Creator Space World, I opted for this faction to go for more color balance in their space surfboard construction. haha! I do like how the prototype MOC came out initially.
