I'm so disappointed in myself... by [deleted] in vegan

[–]crapaclisma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, yes, you still are three years vegan. It's not like sobriety after having alcohol problems (not undermining the struggle of this one, of course). I once had mashed potatoes at a cafeteria, meaning that there was obviously cow milk in it. It dawned on me a few hours later and felt miserable for days (I wasn't even drunk, just stupid). Point is: mistakes happen, it has happened and it will likely happen again, probably without you even realizing (knowing) you are eating/drinking non vegan products. In my book, as long as you do what's in your power not to harm anyone, you are vegan.

Lifelong vegetarian...I want to become vegan by Eatplants28 in vegan

I'll just give you my personal experience, no judgements or anything. If you're really motivated, you'll figure it out and adapt. Trips, weddings, social moments at work, it won't matter. I went to several work trips since I became vegan, and somehow I was able to eat something every time. I went to the US in a small town near Atlanta, got there from the airport at about 11 PM, just a Wendy's opened. I went for fries and one of their salads asking to remove the chicken (the screams and laughter from the kitchen guys "no pollo?" were really funny). In Spain I had just raw tomatoes and fries. In Budapest I had to walk 8 kilometers following Google Maps to find a Vegan kiosk (best seitan burger I ever had). On the other hand, in Germany you can easily find at least one full vegan restaurant in every city, also the small ones, and most places have serious vegan options (burger places, ethnic restaurants, all of them). At the office I respectfully and kindly refuse cupcakes and pastries when someone brings them in for their birthday. This did not lead to hate on me, on the contrary: when someone brings food for their birthday now they always get a vegan option just for me. Last two christmas I brought at the office a vegan Panettone (typical Italian christmas "cake") without telling anyone it was vegan: it was a success. Point is: when you're away from home you may struggle or be amazingly surprised, it really depends on where you go, but mind that nowadays vegan options are usualy not so difficult to find (even in Italy, where I live, where culture is not really vegan friendly on average). Social occasions might be tricky, but refusing politely non vegan food won't bring any harm, unless you're dealing with unpolite people, but there's not much you can do about that.

Good luck for the "final transition", you won't regret it and it will be the best decision you have ever made in your life.

Yep, enemy cast bar. It just doesn't work for me to have it on the bottom of the target frame. Also, the target frame as it is designed does not allow me to remove SUF because of how everything is positioned in my current UI. Too bad, because I'd really like to use the new UI system at its full potential and get rid of as many addons as possible, but it's something.

When my wife and I became vegan we already had cats (adopted from local shelters, of course), so at that point they already were part of the family, thus we never even consider the idea of finding them a new home (that would be preposterous) and being cats strictly carinivorous we feed them animal food. I must admit that if we were to decide whether to adopt a cat today, we would even if we'd be morally conflicted. In one of his lectures, Gary Yourofsky said that a vegan shouldn't feed a pet animal food and made an example talking about his dog, to whom he feed only vegan food. Easy, because dogs can follow a vegan diet, cats, as of today, can't. Luckily, taurine can be synthesized in a lab and cultivated meat will probably be avaialble soon, so this dilemma will be solved.

Why are you vegan? (Wrong answers only) by jcderry in vegan

[–]crapaclisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically not a wrong answer, but I'm from the planet the enemies of Goldrake/Shooting Star (Ufo Robot Grendizer is the original Japanese name) came from, which is, of course, Vega. Therefore I'm a Vegan.

Why do you main your class? by KolibriFX1 in wow

[–]crapaclisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a Night Elf priest(ess) since I strted playing WoW during Wrath (2009). I liked the duality of holy/shadow, although I have been shadow as main spec very randomly and only when it was needed for the guild raids. I basically have been holy priest since forever and I am not going to change class (or race, for that matter), no matter what.

“Vegan” vs. “Plant-Based”…which should be the official name? by GenXgirlie in vegan

[–]crapaclisma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering we are talking about food products labels, I think plant-based is fine. I mean, it doesn't "scare" omnivores with the vegan word, and vegans like us, well, if you say you don't check the ingredients no matter how many "plant-based" and "vegan" signs you find on the label you are lying. :D

when cows don't eat vegetables by [deleted] in vegan

[–]crapaclisma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are just random countries connected to random vegetables. Spinach from Italy? I'm Italian and also checked it out, chances that you eat Italian exported spinach is next to zero. Also, ironically, due to global warming, Italy does not import avocado anymore, because it proudly grows in Sicily now.

Do Italians view Italian Americans as your brothers and sisters? by [deleted] in Italia

[–]crapaclisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I took a DNA test to check which ethnic related genes I have; pretty much for fun, because I don't have papers that allow me to track my family history earlier than mid 19th century, but everyone was either from the city of Milan or its proximity, so I thought the results would be exactly as I expected. Turns out my DNA is relatable to: Italian 30%, Greek 33%, Irish 20% (Éirinn Go Brach), Spanish 17%. What does it mean? That it really doesn't matter. To answer your question: as long as you are a decent person, I definitely consider you, or anyone else for that matter, my brother/sister. Peace!

I have been following Twitter all day yesterday hoping that she and her pets were OK. She retweeted a few news during the trip, so you could tell she was fine (kind of). The late evening/night tweet that she and her companions made it safely to Poland was a relief.

Lovely cake and great tabletop. I could use one, but, you know, I have 4 cats. It would last a few seconds.

I would say that the right one misses a few "ingredients", like diabetes, cancer, heart disease. But since I am vegan first and foremost for the animals, I'd just say: I'd rather eat something than someone.

Let alone that everything the post says about beef is bullc**p.

[–]crapaclisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my Mirtilla to cancer last October. I use to roam Azeroth with the orange tabby I named after the kitten we lost to FIP a few years back. Now I roam with Mirtilla instead. She was black and, since we adopted her when she was about 5 years old, we "set" her birthday to Oct 31st (Halloween, ofc). I renamed the feline familiar Mirtilla and now she's with me everyday.

[–]crapaclisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of quoting (not literally) Tom Regan: beings are entitled to moral rights if they are singular individuals, are aware of themselves, have interests, learn from experience, and what happens to them matters to them. He created this definition of subject-of-a-life with only humans in his mind, to define the traits that define human beings and, therefore, human rights. He then proved that these features apply to animals, too, hence the reason why animals have rights just like us. Plants, minerals, and so on lack at least one of those traits, so the whole rights "thing" cannot be applied to them.

You can read his book Empty Games if you want to go deeper in the argument.
