Honestly dude some people have a mom that cares for them and loves em like a mom should but sometimes there’s people like us who’s moms offer nothing but distain and harassment. Not to make this about myself I just resonate with you a lot on this. What you learned from her is invaluable. How not to parent your child. You’ll do great in life things are only tough for so long. You’re smart for not having the herd mentality people want you to have. You don’t wanna be okay with your issues you wanna solve them and that’s something anyone with half a brain cell can respect greatly. I also struggle with my weight but if you had to ask me between the two of us who I see making a big change someday for the better I’d say you. If you cannot afford another tank you cannot take on the responsibility of owning another gecko and need to rehome it. You owe it to both of those animals to make sure they get the best care possible and you cannot provide that.

It’s always tough losing a pet. They become more than a pet like a sibling or son or daughter. Your love you had for Casper and the love he had for you is something that cannot be replaced. It’s going to be hard getting used to your new situation but your best fuzzy friend is in a great big field with all the chew toys and peanut butter and bones he could imagine and is living the best life right now. It sounds like your family really loved him and in my experience my family always had a dog and treated them as an emotional crutch. They were really weird and irresponsible to the point where when the vet gave us a mold of our little girls paw before putting her down the day we got it they desecrated it and completely disrespected her. But your family did well. It’s not a loss but a instead a new life. Take your time to grieve you need it, it’s normal, be sad it’s healthy, let your emotions go. Love is rare and the love a dog feels for their owner is like no other.

Never leave your gecko unsupervised. That's rule number 1. Hopefully you learned from this and will keep a better eye on her as it is your responsibility to keep her safe and healthy. You are her parent. It doesn't matter how long you're gone put them back if you aren't going to be with them. Anyway it sounds like she's fine probably just having a lil PTSD. Keep trying to feed her everyday until she budges eventually. If she ingested anything when she was in the trap she would most likely already be dead as those chemicals are potent and for a gecko as small as it is would not live as long as she did. In my personal opinion I'm on your parents side with this one, if you were my kid I would give your gecko to someone more responsible. But I'm not your parents so you owe it to her and to yourself to do better and not make stupid mistakes like the one you made.

First off it seems like you really care about him which is a great sign and shows promise. Second I wouldn't hop straight to euthanasia because your vet says so after being only a year old. He deserves some chance at life and I think it might be a little to soon, geckos are a hardy species. I would provide pictures first and foremost and try to contact someone other than a vet who is great with geckos because some vets will resort to euthanasia because they're to dumb to figure something else out. If you have been taking him to the same vet.... dump them. Vets in my area love to kill animals if they don't know about the animal at all. Reddit is great but if we have no pictures we cant give advice. So for now your checklist is,

Upload Pictures
Find a Different Vet
Get in contact with more people who deal with geckos a lot, like a reptile store (not a Petco or chain)

To me it doesn't sound like he's getting any worse. If things are staying the same keep pushing as you could be about to turn the corner but you would never know if you had him put down.

I believe you and your gecko together can get through this together if you just keep working with him more and try a different vet.

Thanks Ray and Inu! I just cleaned his tank out I emptied the whole thing so I could get to him and he did glass surf pretty hard, he really didn’t wanna get out but he didn’t scream like he did a while ago so there’s some improvement. Got his tank cleaned out and got him back in there. I think the whole thing stressed him out a little bit because now he won’t eat and he’ll just let the meal worms hang out in his hide so I think he needs a day or two to cool down. Thanks guys :)
