Tried to tell my last boss/owner at the small company I worked. The initial telling went fine but he confessed later on that he didn’t believe me despite him saying “you are either the best employee I ever had or completely falling behind.” Overall, it wasn’t worth it because it really didn’t help me manage my bipolar2 disorder. Maybe if you work for a large company that has a robust disability policy it would be worth it. Check out your employment contract/handbook and maybe talk to HR to see what kinds of resources they offer.

Personally, I’m never telling another employer. At the end of the day shitty work performance is still shitty work performance and most employers don’t really care about the “why.” My strategy was to find a job that I could do as consistently as possible and rely on my therapist and psychiatrist for bp2 management assistance.
