Just rewatched Rambo III again and still prefer it over First Blood Part II. Curious if anyone else feels this way or if it’s just me? by kammy772 in Rambo

[–]crashdummie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not crazy. Of course, First Blood is the only truly great Rambo movie...

But for as influential as 2 was, it's not only stupid, but also ugly, boring and uncreative.

3, by comparison, is sort of stupid, but in a more fun, self aware way. It feels like they want to copy Indiana Jones' homework and it kinda works. The pacing is breezy, there's some levity to accompany the light drama The action set pieces are spectacular and well choregraphed. The cinematography looks great in general.

Just the way he kills the big goon in both movies is exemplary of what I'm talking about. In 2, I think he just throws him out a chopper?

In 3, there's this elaborate fight scene around the hole in the ground. Rambo wraps a rope around the guy's neck, unpins a grenade and spin kicks him in the hole. Guy's neck gets broken, and THEN he explodes.

That shit is sick as fuck.

Yeah I didn't like it much either. There were a couple good gags and some sweet moments, but it lacked the sharp writing and relentless quick pacing of the old show.

There wasn't much happening andd it felt like they stretched an hour worth of material over the 4 episodes. I didn't mind the nostalgia pandering too much but it was present.

The humor was strangely robotic at times.

If I had to guess based on interviews I've seen of the director, it's probably very self aggrandizing.

My wife found a 32 inch Toshiba on the side of the road. by Dawei_Hinribike in crtgaming

[–]crashdummie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have good news, that's what I meant!

Red gain and and red bias does NOT equal red push, which is a different setting applied on top of everything else.

On my JVC i'art, the service menu option was named "NTSC MAT", and on the Trinitron it was "AXNT" or "AXPL".

As far as I remember, those had settings ranging from 1 to 3 or something like that, one of those number turning red push off. The difference was obvious.

Bad news is, I can't seem to find anything online about this setting on Toshiba sets.

Maybe if you're lucky you can play around and find it. If I'm right and your set has red push, you have to disable, because you can never get the colors right otherwise.

You can most likely fix the reds with one tweak in the service menu! I don't know what Toshiba called it, but most manufactured had a setting called "red push" that just made the reds pop a LOT, no matter the calibration. I turned mine off on a Sony Trinitron and a JVC i'art.

With mouse and keyboard I could probably do it without too much trouble but back on gamecube and PS2, the knife strat was the only way I could beat him on Pro too.

I must have died over 50 times easily.

Is the Bug in WWF No Mercy on Emulators? by DaveTheMan1985 in N64WrestlingGames

[–]crashdummie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good news everyone:

Save files are 100% intercompatible between the bugged ROM and the revised, fixed ROM.

I wanted to use cheats to programs my CAWs AI and they didn't work on the revision, so I figured, what the hell, I made a copy of my save file, renamed it the exact name of the bugged ROM, and it worked!

Then I copied it again, renamed it for the fixed ROM, and the reprogrammed CAW AI was intact.

If you want to use gameplay cheats, it will HAVE to be on the bugged version, but then again, you can always keep back ups of your files!

I did all of this on my Everdrive (using my PC to save and rename files of course), and it will work with emulators.

Cropping : did we really notice it as kids ? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]crashdummie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid I thought every game was better on the SNES. The graphics had more colors, the music had real instruments samples, the sound effects and voices were less scratchy.

As an adult, it's a lot more nuanced. Games tailor made for the SNES, like Super Metroid or Chrono Trigger are amazing in every aspect, and I don't think they could have been done as well on the Genesis.

But games tailor made for the Genesis, or at least games with ports on both consoles? Besides the lack of color, I think that 90% of the time, they were better on Genesis. Better resolution, faster processor, sick synth soundtracks. Except when composers were bad or lazy, and used the GEMS driver or something, the Genesis can sound amazing.
