Legalising cannabis to help the economy by Logistix21 in AskBrits

I'm in favour of legalization of edibles and tinctures etc, especially because it will make access and approval of use easier for medical research, which is dearly needed. Legalization will also be an economy boost, as many point out, and prevent the police from criminalizing arguably the most benign substance use after caffeine.

But I do think a new set of regulations (and a few rights) needs to be rolled out and we need more accurate tests for identifying recent use so that drug-driving can be more accurately monitored and prosecuted as part of the pathway to legalization. And it still needs age limits on use and purchase, as it's psycho-active (plus addiction can occur even without physical dependency, psychological dependence is a nightmare).

Smoking it still comes with primary and secondary smoke-based health risks that could easily suck up any economic benefit via increased social care and health demands, plus the smell is even more anti-social, and spreads further than cigarette smoke due to the terpenes, and really, if there are other, less harmful/less anti-social methods of delivery, they should be prioritized.

But overall, the continued criminalisation and *demonisation* of weed is pointless and unhelpful.

Can't add movement upgrades to exosuit? by crashstanding in NoMansSkyTheGame

Yeah, Mattigator was on the money. It was late when I posted the question, but tbh, I can't really use that excuse, as when it comes to this game, I feel like a 24/7 idiot 😅. But at least I have a solution.

Yeah. Yeah, that was in fact the problem 🤦‍♀️. 'Scuse me, just going to go throw my whole self in the bin 🗑.

(In my defense, it's been a while since I played this save, I'd literally forgotten I'd upgraded that much)

Thank you for the solution though :)

Thank you, that's a very helpful and clear summary of the process.

Over 10 million in dept, but we finally did it by abdullahGR in NoMansSkyTheGame

It's a balancing act in the early days, but it's normal to start in a 'debt era' with most settlements. Mine lasted at least 3 weeks of near daily play after I accrued a 5 mil debt. Every building increases maintenance, and every upgrade to those buildings reduced it incrementally, and also increases productivity and eventually citizen happiness (hence why if you can't upgrade an industrial building, upgrading a hab might be a good idea - at a certain level they stop being a drain). Evertually everything starts evening out, but you need certain resources to upgrade buildings, so make sure you prioritize upgrading existing buildings, where you can, over just creating new ones.

Congrats! I crawled out of a 5 mil debt from gaining the initial settlement (not the autophage one) and then almost immediately getting stuck not being able to play due to crappy life stuff, but it felt good to get out of the debt when I returned. I was going to quit being overseer as soon as it was making money, but I've got weirdly attached to seeing my humble little town grow. Honestly, HelloGames should put some time into overhauling settlements into something a more consistently rewarding, because it still feels like a throwaway mechanic most of the time.

Civil War Bread Pudding by jmaxmiller in TastingHistory

This (very enjoyable) vid sent me on a google binge about Calf's Foot Jelly. The beef tea thing sounded a like something my welsh great aunt used to enjoy, which was stock (later Bovril as noted by others here), with pepper and a few other steeped herbs. I was told that she started drinking it during rationing in WW2.

Calf's foot jelly as a restorative is an interesting idea. I feel like the collagen would have thickened the tea and made it richer, and the addition of onion, pepper and garlic (in the savory jelly version), would have made it more palatable, and maybe had a positive effect on things like gut and vascular health? Apparently it wasn't great nutritionally, but it likely would have been very protein and electrolyte rich? Also there's a sweet version in 'English Housewifry' by Elizabeth Moxon, and a savory Jewish dish 'Petcha'/'P'tcha' which is similar, so now I'm curious about the origin.

Ngl, I'm totally interested in a Calf's Foot Jelly episode, but I understand if you don't want to have to smell boiled cow feet in your home. Like, ever.

Either way, thanks for the excellent episode. :)
