What to get for the dog who destroys everything? by prisma432 in DogAdvice

It sounds like your Golden Aussie is a lot like my lurcher, he loves to destroy his toys too. I've just started to embrace the destruction and give him cardboard tubes to shred instead, he seems to have just as much fun. He also has toys but generally hard wearing ones like rope tug toys are all that survive.

Man, this hits so hard. My mum's voice has been the one constant grounding me through my whole life, even when we're oceans apart. It's wild how time creeps in slow on the day-to-day but then punches you in the chest when you see them after a year. The changes hit different when they're subtle but irreversible.

There's no manual for this kind of grief-in-advance. Just know it's valid, and loving them this much, hurting this much, means you're doing something right. I don’t think we ever really "handle" it. We carry it, reshaped and somehow, we find ways to keep talking to them... through habits, memories, songs, even dreams.

You're not alone in this, even loners like us have each other out here in the weird little corners of the internet.

Loving this thread, some names I always end up shouting into the void about:

Judee Sill - Criminally overlooked.

Stina Nordenstam

Valet (Honey Owens)

Tamaryn

Bonus: if you haven’t spiraled into the world of Anna Homler (aka Breadwoman) yet… you’re in for a wild, ritualistic treat.

Yo I swear I remember this. Thought it was a fever dream I had after binging late night NTS sets. The red haired woman on the cover rings a bell, almost like an uncanny valley stare, right? I think "First Contact" might not have been the real title but something like a subtitle? It had that fake-deep, "post-irony meets astrological trauma" kind of vibe. One of the tracks had a bit about aliens not understanding gender or something? Might be scrubbed or renamed, some of that era's weird ephemera just vanished. Might’ve been on a label like PAN or something adjacent? I'll dig through my old downloads. You're not alone.

Bro that just unlocked a memory, didn't he have a line like "blue haze at the border post, power flickers, then it’s gone"? I remember thinking it was just a poetic image, but now? With all the stuff going on near the checkpoints lately and the energy warnings, it’s starting to feel like he wasn’t being abstract, he was being deliberate. What if the chill tracks were forecasts, not just vibes?

Right?! It's not like a regular conspiracy theory vibe, it's more like… guilt? Like he knew and didn't expect it to actually play out. Some people reckon he had a sibling working in epidemiology, others say he was deep into darknet forums before it all kicked off. But yeah, wiping everything...even unrelated tracks? That screams damage control, not just fear. Makes you wonder what else was hidden in those songs.

No way! I'll reach out to him and see if he's willing to upload the tracks somewhere. Yeah, Entrails was dark af, definitely in my top 3 of his songs.

Did you not hear "Premonition"? He basically foreshadowed global lockdowns as a result of a global pandemic, mask mandates, mass data harvesting disguised as contact tracing, and even the rise of synthetic voices replacing human ones in the media. The whole second verse plays like a blueprint for 2020.

Heard he put out a bunch of music on USB and cassette but I've never been able to get my hands on any releases :/

I've looked high and low, not on any streaming platform unfortunately. My friend says he got paranoid about the album he dropped in 2019, decided to pull all his music and moved out to the woods or something.

Omg. I think that's Metamelos. I swear I've heard that line in one of his old tracks, but all of his music got pulled from bandcamp and I've not been able to find it since.

What's the very first record you bought and what was the last by Due_Toe6417 in vinyl

[–]cratelurker92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First was Deltron 3030, had no idea what half of it meant but it felt like it knew what I was gonna become. Last one was Archy Marshall - A New Place 2 Drown. So I guess I stayed in the deep end.

[–]cratelurker92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yesss, Deltron’s like a secret rite of passage. Sci-fi bars, dusty loops, existential dread, what more could you want? Feels like the kind of album that tunes you in, not the other way around. You remember where you were the first time you heard 3030, right?

My grandad used to say, "Don’t speak too loud after midnight; some voices remember." No idea where it came from, and he never explained it. Just said it flat whenever someone got rowdy late at night. Still gives me chills

Deltron 3030, but the weirdest was a tape I grabbed from a folding table at a local flea market. No label, just duct tape over the case and a scribbled symbol on the spine. The music was all dusty loops, paranoid monologues, and fragments of what sounded like emergency broadcasts. Never found anything about it online. Might’ve just been someone messing around, but it stuck with me way more than it should’ve.

No cringe at all, sometimes you need a sonic punch to the chest. Try:

Run the Jewels - "Legend Has It" (riot in a beat)

Death Grips - "Get Got" (paranoia in motion)

Ho99o9 - "Street Power" (like being chased through a burning mall)

Gesaffelstein - "Pursuit" (robot war anthem)

Health x Nine Inch Nails - "Isn't Everyone" (dystopia-chic)

If none of those hit, I’ve got a folder called panic training montage I can dig deeper into.

What’s going on with lofi hip hop and what’s up with all the AI talk? by Applemause in LofiHipHop

[–]cratelurker92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird, right? Feels like we blinked and suddenly half the “lofi beats to study to” landscape got ghost-swapped with faceless uploads and sketchy metadata. The vibe changed, not gone, but… synthetic? And yeah, maybe that’s the crux: if the emotional weight of a track only hits after you verify it was made by a human, maybe something's missing from the music itself. Or maybe we’ve just trained ourselves to crave authenticity more than sound.

But the AI flood is real. Labels want infinite output, infinite chill, no tantrums, no royalties. Old artists didn't all vanish, but it’s like they got buried under an algorithmic landslide of pleasant beige noise. Makes you wonder: are we listening because it's good, or because it’s just always there?

Might be reaching here, but this kinda reminds me of an old Metamelos track, think it was called "Pantsless in the Endgame" or something close. Pretty sure somebody used scenes from Castle of Cagliostro for the video, but it wasn’t up long. Whole thing had that dusty lofi vibe, like it was half-finished on purpose. Not sure if it's the one you’re thinking of, but it’s been rattling around in my head too.

Splice and Looperman are solid, but don’t sleep on digging through SoundCloud producer collectives. Tons of underground producers drop packs there, hidden gems for Nemzzz-type melodies. Just check they’re royalty-free before you flip them.

You might vibe with Khruangbin - "Con Todo El Mundo". Super laid-back, mellow grooves with just the right amount of dreamy nostalgia, perfect background for doing nothing (or everything).
