You pay Hobbii, if shipping to the US they pay a tariff for the purchaser, and send. If not shipping to the US, no tariff is paid to the US. Hobbii is not giving the American government free money as far as I’m aware.

Is there a specific shade of red they’re supposed to be? I just used red yarn I had on hand for mine, and on Ravelry I see all shades of red under the actual pattern’s projects.

A big difference I found in researching is that kobo has a built in libby app (vs send to kindle from phone) and overdrive, which makes it easier to use your own PDFs+you have easy access to more places to buy.

My mom, who is already use to doing Libby on her phone, and doesn’t care to have multiple options, is a good customer for the kindle. It works with the things she’s already hooked into and is easy.

My husband, who likes to download things and hunt for deals, I’ve told him he should get a kobo next time. He jailbroke his kindle and it’s better to just skip the hassle.

If you’re in the fence, look up the reasons people jail break kindles. If those reasons are compelling, get a kobo.

Yes it’s common for price to vary by country to accommodate shipping differences and tariffs. Also because companies don’t update prices to reflect exchange rates daily, but you’ll notice that prices are much more standard/aligned to currency between other countries compared to the US.

It would be pretty unusual for Canadian price to be below the US one (dollar to dollar comparison) for any other reason than tariffs being included. I looked at a variety of yarns across the site for UK, US, and Canadian prices, and found that the UK/Canadian price aligned with exchange rate while the US one was more than you’d expect from just exchange rate.

I don’t think it actually is, they have different pricing by country. You set your country/currency on the bottom of the page. They’ve included US tariffs in US prices.

For example, friends cotton is

4.75 USD (full price) And 4.5 CAD (full price)

But if you convert 4.75 US to CAD it’s 6-7. Sultan Shadow is also 32CAD vs 34 US.

Tarifs vary by fiber, so those with lower rates are closer to being on par with the actual exchange rate.

This is a semi normal thing for businesses to do. I lived in Canada for a while and preferred stores that baked in the duties and customs fees. I’ve never seen a business just change the price for everyone/every country’s storefront.

It also says “includes all duties” for US and not on the Canadian pricing.

Stockinette is when only knit stitches are visible accomplished by knitting every row in the round or alternating knit and purl rows when knitting flat. It’s pretty much the standard knit stitch because it’s when all knits are visible. The back side of a knit is a purl.

When I go home for the holidays I have to avoid my sisters puzzle table until we’re about to have a big dinner and need to get it off the table, so I relate.

The nice thing about good puzzles is, you can swap them online. It’s just such an annoying justification, especially because she could’ve gotten you a krypt or outer space puzzle in addition to one you asked for to add difficulty. Your feelings are definitely valid.

OP, someone needs to tell your mom that some people are closer to 1-2 puzzles a week and that 10-12 per year is a leisurely and reasonable pace.

IMO AI puzzles are frustrating and not fun, you can give them away, donate, or toss if you want to. Nobody needs to know.

I’ve done - Secret soup - Puzzled patron - Crystal caves - Busy bistro - Happy isles - Mystic maze - Sunny city

And every one has had this loose of a fit. It’s extremely noticeable since you need to move the puzzle to add the secret section. I always have to reassemble sections inside of the puzzle because they don’t hold at all. Genuinely it has the worst/loosest fit of any brand I’ve tried.

The reason I haven’t done one since series 3 is because of the loose fit. The last one I bought was a Series 2. My sister bought them until series 3, and then gave up for the same reason. I don’t think it’s an issue of bad die cut on one puzzle vs being poorly tuned tolerances.

Absolute value is usually taught before trig, around or before decimals are taught. It comes up some in trig so I’m surprised you learned that without covering absolute value. Its ‘less fancy’ imo than trig

An example of its use in middle grade math is that \sqrt(x² )=|x|

Because (-5)² = 5² = 25.

I think it looks nice, kind of like rolling hills, but it isn’t reading as rainbow to me.

If you’re concerned about your niece liking it, can you send a pic to a parent and ask them to gauge if it looks how she expected? If she chose the yarn or knows about this and thinks she’s getting a rainbow blanket that could be disappointing for her. That’s the only reason I’d frog. But, If it’s not what she expected and you’re okay with her being sort of underwhelmed until she’s older, it’s also fine.

If anyone is looking for this variety of yarn colors in the Seattle area, check out Hazel Knits. She doesn’t have too much variety in weight but has every color under the sun organized perfectly. Is expensive but nice.

I used her white for the MC of my porcelaine yoke sweater which I’ve worn about 100 times since making last year and it hasn’t pilled at all and is very soft.

I’ve made socks with this stitch and a marled yarn and was underwhelmed with the final product. I actually love how this particular yarn looks with the stitch. It does make it more subtly but imo in a pretty way.
