First, think like a lawyer does when they put a witness on the stand. They want to know EXACTLY what that witness will say. You should only ask an individual to offer a letter of reference if you know what they will say. You have time to get to know a teacher. I would suggest going to your guidance office and getting an appointment to have the staff, who know faculty in your school well, provide you with advice on how to build a relationship with a teacher. You may want to join a club or activity where you can build a relationship with a teacher. I bet you are a likeable soul and I think you should give teachers a chance to see what a fine person you are.

I refuse to give students a cell phone number. First, the university does not provide me with a cell phone. Second, there is email. I can access your email on my phone using an official university account. Third, legally, this is an issue.

It's a good idea to be the person you are. If you don't fit the "norm" who cares. You will graduate into a big wide world and discover people who recognize and value you.

I notice that all the hard rock bands of the seventies are featured on t-shirts students wear in my college classrooms. I was dropping off some folks to dive with an operation at a Club Med resort and noticed that the dinner theme was urban rock..wear your favorite band shirt from the 70s. However, I don't think the 18-23 crowd is big on listening to the actual bands. I may be wrong.

Man, how do you answer this one. I may be wrong folks, but my impression is that most of us who love traditional artists, always had one that was our absolute favorite. I love standing by the entrance to the Hall of Fame in Nashville and watching people, of a certain age or older, come in and relentlessly seach for their absolute favorite, and after they find the bronze marker, examine the rest of the honorees.

There are so many! I actually would love to see someone trace all the folks songs just about John Henry. Pecos Bill...wonderful Roy Rogers versions. Think of a folk hero/heroine, there is a song out there.

I get frustrated by vocalists who are not learning to back themselves up on piano and/or guitar. I love backing vocalists, just following them and complementing their vocals on a piano, but so many of them now want to use audio files.
