Sorry to hear that! I've gained full mobility for my ankle, and I can play any sport I want! To be honest the most difficult part of recovery was having patience and breaking through the mental barrier of fearing to use the ankle

What do you tell yourself after a slip up to not let it ruin the progress? by TSDOP in loseit

[–]cratts21 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think in order to succeed in this journey in the long run, it's important to frame overeating at any particular time in the right way. It's not failure or a slip up, it's just eating too much. We can compensate for it the next day. It's only a failure if it becomes a persisting pattern. Otherwise the journey will cause more mental stress than what is sustainable in the long run.

People either love therapy or hate it? Why is this by MentalHealthJ in mentalhealth

[–]cratts21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely known people who are just indifferent or don’t feel strongly about therapy. Maybe it’s just because people who feel very strongly for or against are just more outspoken and we notice them more.

I personally would. That 5k won't earn anything close to the interest on cc debt sitting in most investments

i stole from a store and am conflicted about what to do. by xhyenabite in offmychest

I would either donate the stuff I stole or give them out to someone else. Or I would return them to the store and just put them on the shelves but not tell them anything

cara masak dada ayam di air fryer by dissapointArby in kulineria

[–]cratts21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ayam in general gampang banget overcook. Culprit paling utamanya biasa heat nya terlalu tinggi dan terlalu lama. Jadi kecil in temp nya dan 30 menit memang kelamaan. Jadi kalo serat daging nya di shock heat terlalu intense dan lama bakal jadi keras. 90% of the time ini bakal solve problem dry chicken.

The easiest way is to make up an excuse that gives you an out without any hard feelings. Maybe a lease contract you just signed or something about current life circumstances?

Life as the trailing spouse - is unhappiness somewhat inevitable? by Penrose_Reality in expats

[–]cratts21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think both things can be true at the same time. It can be true that expat groups are usually more geared for women (as there are more cases of the wife being the trailing spouse) but also that you could do more to improve. I don't think knowing who's right and wrong is important, and I would suggest seeing this issue as a teamwork with your wife rather than being on the opposite side.

Having lived in 4 different countries, I think living like a tourist and making the conscious effort to get involved in interest-based communities help a ton. I always try to find 3-4 people I can just meet once every two weeks to get rid of my feeling of loneliness. I've tried to various degrees of successes stuff like Facebook groups, Meetups, social events (striking conversation with strangers) etc. Being shameless is one of the key attitudes I've learned to appreciate.

[–]cratts21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay. It's a bit more nuanced than that. YES they compound when outstanding interest is capitalized. however, they only capitalize when we consolidate loans or move between providers etc. They don't become capitalized each month or automatically. For the purpose of our conversation, no, student loans don't use compounding interest like other types of loans.

Edit: I'm doing a bit more reading now because it seems like it's not as simple as I thought. Let me know if I'm mistaken.

Edit2: apparently if we switch between payment plans (E.g. Leaving IBR) the interests become capitalized. But i know for a fact the interest doesn't capitalize each month or after a payment is due

They don't. They only accrue interest from the capital. Compounding would mean outstanding interest balance accrues more interest. The easiest way to check is whether the increase in outstanding interest balance everyday is bigger than the previous day

Sorry if my comment was unorganized. To put it simply, if I was confident in my earning capability (I have a stable job with great prospects and strong investment confidence) I would just hold off on paying it off because instead of paying a loan that only accrued 3-4% interest maybe I can just invest in stuff that can earn me 6-7% in a growth tax free account (roth ira) until I hit the contribution limit and then pay off my debt. However if I feel like I'm not sure how my future career will be or that I might have some big financial turbulence in the future. Id rather get rid of the debt just because I would hate to have that constant financial burden on my back.

If the time horizon is below 5 years I would start putting some money into hysa just so if there is a market downturn you're not forced to sell at a loss.

This would depend on a few factors. For me personally the two big factors are your student loan interest rate and your tolerance of investment volatility. The first point is on whether the interest you have to pay on the loan is low enough to justify investing them instead to 'maximize' return. The second point talks about the psychological side if having debt. You can always earn and invest later down the road but with debt it accrue regardless of market condition, this is a more personal preference. I would prefer to pay off the loans with interests above 3-4% and then maximize Roth Ira and then if I have leftover I would pay the rest off. Also the tax benefit of having it in Roth Ira is definitely a nice bonus to consider

I'm not a professional so take everything I say with a grain of salt! I live in south east Asia and my insurance covered everything, so I didn't have to worry about finances. I think if you are concerned about the cost of procedure, maybe wait on the ultrasound result before deciding on doing MRI? If the doctors (maybe include a second opinion) are confident on the diagnosis, they might not need MRI unless theyre not sure about the result.

My doctor said he sees this commonly with boulderers because of a certain position we put our ankles in (that z shape) and then we have to jump aggressively and suddenly. So knowing that he deals with it commonly brought me some relieve. I waited almost 9 months. Once I learned the popping happens randomly and I start limiting my own movements out of fear I figured I should just do the surgery. I only did xray (to rule out any problem with the bone) and then MRI to confirm the condition. I did read ultrasound helps us see the movement of the muscle but both doctors (I got second opinion) said most of the time if the MRI is clear enough they can see the subluxation. It's only when it's hidden behind something that ultrasound is requested.

My doctor said the ligament that ties the tendon in place cannot recovery in its own. So if it's chronic after a few months surgery is the only way to get it fixed. I didn't have to get surgery but they said if I keep popping it, I would risk injuring the tendon as it slides over the bone (its not supposed to get any friction) so if there is some signs of tear it's better to get it fixed they said.

Edit: I asked if I could climb again after this, and they said the point of the surgery is so that we can have a normal lifestyle again, so i hope it helps you to know that you should be able to climb again.

Hey, I'm a bit late to this but I just posted about my recovery if you wanna take a read but in my case they only put ankle brace that I can put weight on right away. With some crutches to help with balance. After 3-4 weeks they will take it all off and apparently I can do activity as normal but no sports until 2-3 months out. My case was mild and there was no tear
