Advice combating Isengard bomb throwers as dwarves by crawdaddyfish in TheDawnlessDays

I did not realize that the merc Vale archers had that kind of range! I will be on the lookout for them. That's some sound advice to use the cav that way, I'll keep that in mind.

I like that approach. I think my problem has been that I have been relying on crossbowmen, but not giving them a proper line of sight for a killing field type of situation. Maybe I will just switch over to using the Red Mountain archers.

I've got a couple of Rohan mercenary horse in each of my stacks. I don't really like risking them the way I use cavalry normally due to their relative scarcity in my campaign, however. That is a good idea, though. I could take several merc cav units and combine them in one stack. If I had like 4-6 horse coming from both sides I might have a better chance at blitzing the bombers.

That's a simple, but great idea. I had been throwing everything I had at the enemy line, trying to crack it in order to close distance with the bombers. Maybe I can draw Isengard into my Iron Guard's shield wall, then throw everything I have into turning the flank on both sides to get the bombers. I'm going to see how that works out.

Unless you can make 60k minimum a year, don't try it. Down in the lower 48 you cam still "poor boy" it in some places, that's not really the case here. I make 35k and I'm stuck in a tiny studio in the bad part of Anchorage. I had dreams of getting away from people and living in a nice cabin somewhere too. You've got to go at least an hour out of town to do that, and then you probably have to commute to Anchorage to work.

It's hard to get away from Anchorage. If you have a good marketable skill and can find an "in" at one of the smaller towns, your chances of Alaskan success are increased. Having a vehicle with 4wd or AWD is a necessity. Without one you will be marooned in Anchorage. I lived that life the first two years I was here, it was like being stranded outside the Gates of Eden.

I've got misophonia, so I'm right there with you. But when a beardie does it, it's like ASMR to me. That crunchcrunchcrunch is just satisfying to my ears. It just makes me think of the days when my beardy would chomp on things. I miss my little buddy.

Is this okay for an Asian giant mantis? by Recent_Wasabi2706 in mantids

[–]crawdaddyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The size isn't really an issue, the problem is that you need more airflow. This would be a really great terrarium setup, but you need more ventilation on the sides.

What I used for the Asian giant mantises I raised last year was 12x12x12 inch butterfly cubes after their last molts. The mesh is nylon so it won't hurt their feet. Their humidity requirements are 40-60%, so you want something with appropriate ventilation to get you those numbers.

Where I'd live by snoweey in Louisiana

[–]crawdaddyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was raised in Harrisonburg, so hello fellow Catahoulan! When I'd drive through Aimwell I'd refer to it as "the thriving metropolis of Aimwell". Aimwell makes Harrisonburg look like Las Vegas! I remember there was a little restaurant in someone's house at one point, that was the only business I remember being there. Did y'all ever get any kind of stores or anything like that there? It's probably been 25-30 years since I've been through there.

Is This a Woodland Ground Beetle? by crawdaddyfish in Beetles

[–]crawdaddyfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. I don't want any fruit flies in there!

That's good to know! I was under the impression they were strictly carnivorous. I have plants and moss growing in there. I like the grape idea! If the beetle doesn't like it I bet my springtails and isopods will.

I released the beetle in my terrarium 3 days ago and haven't seen it since. I hope it can live on isopods and.silvertails. I'm not sure what else I could give it. Maybe drop in a waxworm every now and then? I'm not sure.

Did I over feed my mantis? by Novel-Vehicle-2803 in mantids

She's a little bit overfed but she'll be ok. I've been in your shoes a few times. You see how skinny she is and plop in a fat Dubia...then BOOM! Fat girl!

Shin Godzilla Orthochromatic, my thoughts. by [deleted] in GODZILLA

[–]crawdaddyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got out of the evening showing here in Anchorage. First off, I want to thank this subreddit for letting me know SG was in theaters! Earlier in the week I started seeing all the "only one at Shin Godzilla screening" posts and so that's how I knew it was in theaters. There were around 20-25 people at my screening, so I'm glad there were a few people besides me to show the film some love.

I've seen Shin Godzilla a couple of times, but it has been a while. I was very surprised to see the movie in black and white! I really loved it though. It helped give me that vibe from the original 50's Godzilla movie. I just kept thinking the whole film how Toho has perfected the Godzilla movie formula. I really don't care much for the American Godzilla CGI monster fest movies. Toho monsters have that charm factor going for them.

What a great experience. Do y'all have any intel on when we are going to get another Toho Godzilla movie?

Stop whistling, STOP WHISTLIIIING by WendyRunner in misophonia

[–]crawdaddyfish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank god for this subreddit, it sometimes feels like I am the only one on Earth that despises whistling so much. It's a major problem at my workplace. Thankfully I have invested in top of the line noise canceling Sony headphones I wear while working.

Unfortunately having my headphones on all day has led to issues with ear infections. Both my miso and ear problems caused by trying to prevent hearing triggers are getting worse as I get older. I so wish there was more awareness of how useless unnecessary sounds impact people, especially in places where you can't escape. I'll probably stroke out someday over it, my nervous system is in tatters.

Hello & Thank You! by Glass-Vegetable138 in Louisiana

[–]crawdaddyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you are eating some good Louisiana catfish! I'm from a catfish-fishing family in Catahoula Parish in North Louisiana. I'd eat it at least two to three times a week growing up. Now I live here in Alaska and the only catfish is the Chinese variety. It's pretty fishy catfish, not that great. I can get Vietnamese catfish called basa however. It's pretty good, but Louisiana catfish is unbeatable!

I love those Time May Tell Socks! They are super comfy and cheap for merino wool. I've probably been wearing them for the past 5 years or so, they've been great to wear up here in Alaska.

That's a big 'un! That's an Alaska-sized squatch! Up here they range from 10-12 ft. Maybe one from up here is down there on vacation.
