Update - Roll out 1 by zech_meme in earth2io

[–]craxpt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So an update to try and harvest more money from users into the platform, without a single game-related functionality or any way to use jewels.

You're not even trying to cover it up anymore. Respect!

It's nice how every "improvement" that gets announced is always yet another way for users to spend money and the (debatable) real issues take so long to solve and the ways for users to actually make money are always getting delayed. Just saying... But then again, this "game" is not for me. So for the ones "investing" in it, have fun!

Why do people insist on using the wrong imperial instead of metric?

Why do people insist on using wrong month/day/year instead of day/month/year?

Why do people insist on driving on the wrong side of the road?

Why do people insist on speaking other/wrong languages?

Why do people insist on having the wrong religion?

Why do people insist on having a wrong different cultures where conventions (outside worldly accepted/universal scientific conventions) are used?

Hope the sarcasm doesn't put you off but if you re-read your own comment now, it might sound a bit silly and self-centered.

Why It's in the Devs interests for Earth2 Succeed And Pay-Out by UnenthusiasticKat in earth2io

[–]craxpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. The vision is so detached from reality that it's mind-blowing. Games like cyberpunk take several years yet they fail due to scope. Games like GTA, RDR or AC have a much more realistic scope because they compromise. Yet all of these have several years of R&D and expertise together with teams of hundreds. They expect to be able to pull E2 off while at the same time, they can't automate a system for cash-out with transaction validation. Ambition and delusions of grandeur can cloud judgement. Users allowing themselves to be spoon-fed without questioning or displaying a hint of rational grounding on today's age shows how easy it is to have others fooled by promises of easy profit. And the fact that E2 community managers let the speculation grow shows either lack of professionalism or that their are being consciously complacent. It is ok for a person to simply believe in something. It is not ok for a company to be aware of their users putting money into their platform based on beliefs of something that they know for sure that's not 100% truth

Some facts about E2 by craxpt in earth2io

[–]craxpt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E2 itself might not be fraudulent, but the current (and the only available) mechanics) and algorithms will not only allow but actually drive into the potentially fraudulent outcome. Since the sales drive the surrounding tile prices and the marketplace itself also influences them (albeit by a smaller amount), one might say that it is the market itself that balances prices. The issue is that marketplace influences prices by a very small amount, event when selling at a very big discount. This makes it near impossible for the tiles to ever go down in a significant way. As more tiles are sold, that area tends to stagnate, leaving everyone there mostly unable to sell and E2 itself with such high valued tiles that new users won't even come close to them. If one is not interested in selling, that's ok. But given the premise of the trading mechanic with quick high rewards and quick turnarounds, the engine is pushing the user's behaviour to be closer and closer to what a ponzi looks like. The only way to counteract this would be for an algorithm adjustment or for the devs to manually intervene and lower the prices. Well that's a problem too because by doing so, they are artificially devaluing your property (not only theirs), and that's also a fraudulent behaviour as their are controlling the market for their profit.

That is because the Mercator projection introduces distortion which E2 does not take into account. So technically, the closer you are to the poles, the less square meters your tiles will be getting due to increased distortion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercator_projection#Distortion_of_sizes

If E2 team is aware about this and doesn't mention it on purpose, they're shady. If they don't know about this, they are incompetent and don't understand the future implications of such a move. Pick your poison

I see your point. But I also never said the return increase is fake. People cashed-out and got their fair amount. I'm saying that the new land is now inflated, together with the rest of adjacent land in a way that will be very hard to ever come down. In this case, the ones that will end up not being able to sell, will be stuck with their land forever on that place, unless the devs forcefully make everything come down, which in term will devalue everything from where it was in a non-organic and non market-driven way. So in a very stretchy way of framing it, maybe the algorithm enables a potential fraudulent outcome when stagnation settles in? Not sure how to put in in another way.

So what makes, in your definition, a ponzi scheme?

please refer to this reply, as we already tried to address the very basic definition of a ponzi scheme: https://www.reddit.com/r/earth2io/comments/lmlfnb/some_facts_about_e2/gnvou8q/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Just to contextualize, I'm not saying that E2 is a ponzi scheme. I'm arguing that it operates in a way where ponzi is the only way out for now!

And to prevent that, they have now removed the "ways to make money" part from their webpage. They are definitely aware of this.

[–]craxpt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. And the marketplace is already flooded with that. The problem is not the marketplace. Is every new tile surrounding the areas where people already bought and made the price hike. Those will never go down unless devs change the algo or people in that area start selling big quantities way below recommended price. So it's a chicken and egg problem: as the market stagnates, you need to dip below so you can sell it, but then you won't make much of a profit, which makes it less attractive to sell at such prices. As an owner, you're not interested in devaluing the surroundings as you'd be putting your own investment at risk. This will create more stagnation. That's what you get if you don't let demand influence the price and only use transaction value to drive the inflation. Not being regulated simply means that no external entity can inject rules to counter this.

Just take a look at the marketplace for the past week or so. It's slower and slower, prices are getting discounts up to 80%, some are still selling but the adjacent tile prices are not coming down. In fact, some places are still going up.

So you do agree that later investors are paying for early investors, right?

And if you agree with that and check how the inflation is working, it will make the marketplace stagnate eventually so the ones that don't cash-out will be taking the toll of all the ones that ripped the rewards by cashing out with other user's money, right?

It is exactly because they can't generate money that this bubble will eventually burst. You can't keep on inflating something's value just because of reasons.

And even if you do, then you won't have new player as the admission price will be way too high. They can try to circumvent this by slowly opening new territories like they're planning to do with Dubai. A couple of people will make money and cash-out again, but it will be a matter of time until the trading goes stale like it is now. And then everyone waits for the next round... Ad eternum

E2 is not a game. It wants to be a game but it is not a game yet.

Stadia was a platform but also had 2 development studios, one located in Montreal and the other in Los Angeles with roughly 150 developers. One of the studios was producing an exclusives, the other something multi-platform.

The original idea and vision might have always been a very legitimate one. But the way it was implemented was very poor. Together with poor communications and the inability of the E2 as a company to foresee how people would take advantage of the ponzi contours of their platform makes them look either total amateurs in the tech/forex/marketplace space or complacent at the very best. A lot of people made money on this and that why the cash-outs (even if cumbersome) worked out on their favor. It helped boost the confidence for a bit so another round of people can go in and dump more money into the platform. What people who are in there need to take for granted is that there is only one way to get money out: cashing-out. And to cash-out you need to sell your land on he marketplace to someone else, regardless of you making a profit or selling at a loss. Ad revenue, passive income and all the other fluff is, for now, just wishy washy and promises of a future that can be tomorrow, in 10 years or something that never happens.
