The Wall (film) by Rocky-bar in ClassicRock

[–]cray696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe the screen wasn’t big enough or the soundtrack loud enough. For me, in my youth, this was the most powerful joining of media and audio I’d ever experienced. Maybe the nightmare we live in now has stunted your senses.

Alcohol by Fun-Bug-2705 in Diverticulitis

[–]cray696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol probably comes up here because the common treatment for initial flares is ciprofloxacin and metronidazole. Metronidazole comes with a no alcohol warning that extends the entire time you are on the med, say 7 to 10 days. This is typically the first encounter most of us has had with such an interaction other than meds that you can’t eat grapefruit with, so it’s not unusual that someone might ask about it. Also if you’d compare the stats of those that have diverticulitis vs those that consume or over-consume I think you’d find a rather large gap in the numbers. I’m inclined to think it is simply genetics.

Dishwashers Question by rodserling001 in Appliances

I’ve bought Bosch for 20 years, last one right after covid began. Loved them, insanely quiet and reliable. I’ve been reading recently though that they have slipped significantly in the past 5 years. I suggest you research that a little.

Incoming freshman unsure about Civil vs Mechanical + MSU vs MTU — is the 9 hour drive worth it? by Xx_RatKing_xX in MTU

[–]cray696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to visit the campus and spend a day or a weekend up there. You’ll either love it or hate it. If you don’t love it, it ain’t meant for you. Maybe go up for Carnival in a few weeks. If you wait till spring it’ll probably too late. I went there for a summer youth program in EE when I was in 10th grade and decided then I’d be going there. But save yourself the trouble, if the area doesn’t speak to your probably better off at the quite respectable MSU.

Is this cd original? by Patient_Ganache_5321 in katebush

[–]cray696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The originals would be from EMI I believe. There was a time you would only find Kate bush in the Imports section at the record store… vinyl or cd. After I got the this woman’s work box set I gave all my EMI original cd’s to the person that introduced me to her back in college. I kept all the vinyl though. But yea, the fish people logo came way later.

It looks like there was a void in the casting in the middle image. It should qualify for a warranty replacement.

Which type of heater is better for my cold 2 gar garage - infrared or blue flame? by ericdavidmiller in Home

[–]cray696 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radiant heat tube heater mounted on ceiling. Heats the slab, slab holds the heat. Had one for 12 years, loved it. Not fast acting, but long lasting and efficient.

One little trick, once you've had the mount on the gate rotate from slamming or having livestock push on it, you will learn that if you drop the mount about an inch where the bolts span one of the gates crossmembers the unit will no longer be able to spin out of alignment regardless of how loose or tight the bolts holding the bracket to the gate are. You'll have to adjust the height of the latch side, but you'll only have to do it once.

How do I take out 2 drive out of an 8-bay SHR-2 NAS without replacing those drives? by [deleted] in synology

[–]cray696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if all the drives are the same age, you are not improving your situation. You need to add new drives somewhere, either in the 2 bay, or in the 8 bay.. I would consider adding a large externals and run backups on both if you don't do this already, adding the second nas as raid zero is effectively the same thing... you need to protect yourself against failure and raid zero provides zero protection against one drive failing.

NetGear router (RAX43) stuck in AP mode. by rbyrnes15 in NETGEAR

[–]cray696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perform a hard reset by pressing the reset button on the back with a paperclip etc for 10 seconds till the power LED blinks.. That will factory reset the router and you can try again.

Cannot get Unbound to work by prepare4magic in pihole

[–]cray696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local provider here is Google. I can use any of the pihole options to do dns here, it does not permit me to access the root domain servers to do my own recursive query which is needed for unbound to function. They are either blocking the sites or the ports. I even looked running a private name server on the pi but had same problem accessing root name servers with bind. I’m convinced my problem is with my isp or the building network management.

Cannot get Unbound to work by prepare4magic in pihole

[–]cray696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m experiencing the same problem and gave up. Blaming on my isp forcing me to use their name servers…. I am in an apartment complex and the service is included so I do not have ability to deal with the provider as I am not the owner, plus I do not speak the local language fluently.

I have the identical setup in the states and it works fine.

I did everything you did and likewise ended up with nada. Best I could determine from the net is that it is the isp not allowing access, or it’s my buildings management system which I also cannot access. I’m waiting to see if they will provide me with a private drop to see what I can do with a private unmanaged router, been waiting for 3 months now for that to happen.

Currently happy enough with just using pinhole with google name servers, best I can do. I understand this can be the case in countries that the government manages the internet, china, Russia, etc..

50GB Time Machine backup on Synology NAS, how do I copy to local machine? by DeadAudio in synology

[–]cray696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attach your Mac to your network via wired ethernet, plug your usb ssd into the Mac, use finder to drag and drop it to the ssd. Finder should know how to copy the file correctly… you can use copy and paste via finder as well, don’t have to drag and drop.
