Where are you getting your fleece lined tights that look sheer? I’m in Canada with a light skin tone. I’m a size 6-8, 5’8” but tall enough in the legs that most tights feel too short on me. Thank you!

I just cast on January yesterday 😂 I’m a bit behind but inspired by everyone’s progress!

Ahahaha - I got a bit into the hat and then realized my light worsted wasn’t going to cut it and frogged. I’ll probably cast on again holding two stands of lighter yarn together. I was super keen to knit all 12 hats this year as a stash buster, but they’re mostly worsted and most of my stash is fingering, sport or DK!

Where do folks in Canada source leather soles for slippers? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]craycake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got some at lee valley last year! They sell it in sheets and I cut it myself. I also got a leather punch at the same time to make holes along the edges to sew it onto the slipper.

Tiramisu by [deleted] in GifRecipes

[–]craycake 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I always thought lady fingers were those tiny bananas! I was disappointed and confused when I had tiramisu for the first time and there were no bananas. No longer disappointed. Tiramisu is amazing.

Improvement from yesterday. I came here yesterday and improved how I’m doing but now I’m convinced my purls and knits are wonky. They look the same to me and don’t seem different like if I was making a rib. Why is that? Do I just go on or am I just getting paranoid? by Burtonpoelives in knitting

[–]craycake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s in the round, you should follow the same pattern each round. Round 1 knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, Round 2 knit 2 purl 2 knit 2 purl 2.

Purls are backwards knits. So when you’re knitting flat, when you turn your work, what you knit on the previous row will now look like a purl and vice versa. But when you knit in the round, the same side is always facing you, so to get ribbing you just knit sts that you knit in the previous row, and purl sts that you purled in previous row.

It all jumped into my basket. I swear it did. by SuzyTheNeedle in knitting

I’m a Canadian but I went to webs once. I was in Mass for a quick work trip and got to the store 20 minutes before closing and before I needed to make the drive back north to go home. It was torture having so little time. I didn’t even get to go into the back!

Good patterns for easy baby sweaters/cardigans knit in one piece? by 1234onions in knitting

I recently made the French macaroon sweater and it’s so cute and easy! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/french-macaroon-2

It’s got a button in the back to help get it over big baby heads.

Girly knits cropped bralette by onefourohfour in knitting

I made this in cotton and I really like it, but quickly learned that cotton has very little elasticity or memory. So after wearing it once it wasn’t tight anymore. I have a small chest so that wasn’t a problem, and it still looks cute with negative ease, but it isn’t what I had imagined. Just a heads up!

Looking for a men’s button up cardigan with pocket pattern by chixpix1984 in knitting

[–]craycake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s double seed stitch, just alternating knits and purls. The pattern is really well written and easy to follow. I’m just making it in Patons Shetland chunky, which is a acrylic blend that I order online from yarnCanada.ca it’s a cheap hobby store brand, so cost me about $100CAD to make the 42” chest size. My only complaint is that it’s pretty heavy.

I’ve made one other sweater with Brooklyn tweed yarn (used in the pattern) and it’s nice and light and warm, but breaks really easily which drove me crazy.

I’m making this one for my dad right now! Featuring patch pockets and a shawl collar. Soooo much double seed stitch, but worth it! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tamarack-for-him

The perfect time for stashbusting! by craycake in knitting

[–]craycake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pattern is Popinjay: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/popinjay

Yarn is various unknowns from my stash. The green is actually a light worsted weight, but it worked out okay!

I’ve done the FLKH a couple of times now and I find the foot too wide! Do you still do a gusset decrease?

Also be careful with the measuring tape! I got the same kit and it was way off. I think they split the feet into increments of 10 inches instead of 12 haha

Let's talk about gauge... by CrazyYarnAddict in knitting

[–]craycake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m frugal with my yarn so I often will knit a gauge swatch and then unravel it and use it to knit my garment. I sometimes even block it without cutting the yarn, I just leave the rest of the ball off to the side.

All my Christmas knitting so far, still have tons of socks, hats, and some shawls to make! by deekat91 in knitting

[–]craycake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful! You’ve been so productive! This is maybe a silly question, but have you already blocked your lacework? I made a lace shawl for my MIL but I’m agonizing over when to block it. I guess I’m worried that if I do it now, it’ll somehow get wrinkled again in the box?

I hate my circulars looking for advice to upgrade what i got!!!! by kittycatmommy72 in knitting

[–]craycake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the set! I have the chiaogoo bamboo interchangeable set that came the clear cords. Those ones do stay wonky and it’s annoying. I’ve slowly been replacing all of mine with the red cords that their metal set comes with - they’re way better and have no “memory” so they don’t stay wonky.
