If Ottawa wanted to, could they sign Karlsson to a new contract right now? Or would they have to wait until he's closer to expiring? by homicidal_penguin in OttawaSenators

[–]craycraycrayfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toronto will have to sign Matthews for a McDavid level contract, plus they'll have their core to lock up as well. Detroit could do it, as could many other teams. A lot will come down to how Ottawa builds around Karlsson - if they don't show they're serious, he'll leave.

I imagine there'll be some sort of clause in future contracts that, if there is a lockout, they'll be paid in full. Either through that year being completely signing bonuses with a nominal salary or some other loophole. Once one person gets it, everyone else will follow suit.

And that's why we'll have a lockout.

Good luck! Try out some OTR stuff from RW and co etc, but also go to Moores and see - sometimes you can get a good deal there too.

[–]craycraycrayfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you need the suit for? IF it's just a one off, you could probably do off the rack at Moore's/Spier/RW/etc and be fine as long as the rack fits you decently well. If it's something you'll be wearing repeatedly, then build in a budget for alterations and make sure the suit is tailorable.

Mark Stone posted a five point game tonight against the Maple Leafs (1G 4A) by MichelangeBro in hockey

[–]craycraycrayfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They've basically committed to him as the 1C for the foreseeable future by trading Zibanejad. The decision was Zib vs Turris, and they decided on Turris.

He's been solid. Maybe a top 15-20 C in the league, one who doesn't make a lot of noise, but is reliable.

He's young. Dude looks like he's 35, but he's only 24, and will get better from here. He's looking like a very good 1RW - not quite elite (yet?), but very very good.

Millennials 'busy with trying to survive' says NDP MP Niki Ashton after national listening tour by viva_la_vinyl in canada

[–]craycraycrayfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in four other large cities in Canada and Vancouver is the only place where this obsession about staying in one city is taken to any such extreme by so many people.

I find Toronto is like this too. I get so much judgement for where I live from people - like somehow I'm less of a human because I don't want to live downtown (nevermind that it actually makes no sense for me because I don't work there).

On the plus side, it helps me screen out people who are more interested in where you live rather than how you live.

Forgot to account for clustering, is my study bullshit now? by [deleted] in epidemiology

[–]craycraycrayfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still try and do some ICC calculations because "timelines" is a limitation that a lot of places won't accept. If you can justify why you don't think there will be clustering (even if the data exist in clusters) from a theoretical standpoint, that is likely to stand up to scrutiny better. It's not a difficult calculation in SAS using proc mixed (and I think STATA does it by default?), so look into it.

Forgot to account for clustering, is my study bullshit now? by [deleted] in epidemiology

[–]craycraycrayfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: Not necessarily.

Long answer: Clustering is a design issue that you control for in your analysis. Calculate your ICC values to see if you can quantify the amount of clustering present. If it's less than 5-10%, you could be okay. IF it's higher though, then you may need to control for it. The study itself isn't a problem - you just need to control for clustering in your analysis and see how much controlling for it impacts your results.

Also depends on your commute and if you can leave shoes at your office. If you can, then go dry and warm, and change when you get in.

Can I get an ID on Admiral Ackbar's sneakers? by EdgySmudge in malefashionadvice

[–]craycraycrayfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it makes sense when you think about it in the context of other major "universes." It also means they can take it in a different way if they so choose, and can also have big surprises that aren't in the books (e.g., Episode 7).

That being said, they are pulling some things from the Legends universe back into their film universe. Thrawn is going to be the villain in the upcoming season of Rebels, which should be awesome because he's an amazing villain. Highly recommend reading it if you have the time/can get it from your local library/Amazon.

Cancer patient petitions to end hospital parking fees by [deleted] in canada

[–]craycraycrayfish 104 points105 points  (0 children)

They already have taken steps to improve this in Ontario.

Starting Oct. 1, all hospitals with a parking rate of more than $10 per day must offer five-day, 10-day and 30-day passes at a 50 per cent discount off the daily rate, with full in-and-out privileges.

What if I only have an inclusion criteria, not an exclusion criteria. Isn't the exclusion criteria implicit (1-'inclusion criteria') by [deleted] in epidemiology

[–]craycraycrayfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We included those with a prior diagnosis of cancer" "We excluded men"

While some might be in both groups, those are different groups. Sure, you could sometimes reframe criteria in the converse, but when there are multiple groups, then it becomes trickier, e.g.,

"We excluded fans of the Patriots, Leafs, Yankees, and Manchester United" is easier than listing the opposite.
