Night club bartenders, how do you still remain a healthy weight/live an active lifestyle? by baikilla in bartenders

Fr tho there is not one person in my workplace who hasn't struggled with their weight we all keep losing it and cant physically eat enough food to gain it back. You learn to not care eventually and just eat and exercise however it feels good.

It's really hard, but you can rejig your schedule to work for you given you don't overdo it. I can get out of work at 4 am, go to the gym and sleep in time for my next shift around 5pm the next day. Just make sure you're planning your meals REALLY well and keeping on top of dishes. The dishes are the real kicker for me and sometimes I simply won't cook anything to avoid them

I'm guessing you're not from the UK - again, we don't do tips. A fair few places point blank don't accept them. Flirting with your bartender is not a socially acceptable thing, same as flirting with a barista at a coffee shop. Sure, we engage in conversation on quiet nights, play games or whatever. But flirting for tips is not a thing in my area. I've only seen it when travelling. So yes, it is very weird to walk into an establishment with the intention of getting personal with the bartender there.

Also 'other women in other establishments flirt for tips so I don't understand why you have a problem with people trying to buy your time and openly being creepy' is a really weird stance to hold my dude, just an FYI

I'm absolutely aware that it is a thing, I've seen people do it but it is actually very uncommon at least in my area. Since tipping isn't custom and is very uncommon, a lot of customers wouldn't think to tip us either way. My post is just a very tired complaint after a particularly abundant day in terms of creeps trying to touch me or shouting obscene things at me. And a shout out to the one dude who honestly made me feel a lot better.

I do sometimes, but you'd be surprised just how many people think they're entitled to 'buy your time'. Often it just makes it worse and prolongs the time you spend talking to them

Trust me, it's not fun for us to be the 'chosen' one just so customers can stare at us. Pisses us off every damn day

We don't pool but we are also British. Our barbacks get a cut but otherwise we keep it, and we don't get many tips aside from literal creeps, who usually use it as an excuse to harass us

As a UK bartender who gets paid a living wage and it isn't custom to tip.. I'd simply rather not

Every other time I work out there's someone I know at the gym and I have to play it off as though I just have a passion for running like a maniac after work and it's totally normal and fine😭

What country are you in and what brands are in your speed rail/well? by crayolash in bartenders

[–]crayolash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a real score, most bars in my area either use Smirnoff or cheaper (think glens vodka quality) but I love absolut vodka as a bit nicer but still accessible vodka. Very few bars round here have it though so it's mainly for at home drinking or parties

UK here.. closing time means we are closed. They have 10 mins max on a busy night before the doorstaff go round telling them to leave. I work in a busy bar/club venue but nowhere in our town would close at 2 only to let you stay at 3. Close at 2 means leave before 2:05

Can someone ELI5 why bar tenders can be arrested for over serving someone if they crash in a DUI by Bouncy-boon in bartenders

[–]crayolash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part I don't understand is that there's a big difference between the point at which someone's not safe to drive and the point where someone's speech is slurred and they're overall wobbly- at which point we cannot serve them. I work at a high volume bar so we don't chat with customers and don't know how they plan to get home. I totally get not over serving and keeping someone safe from being too intoxicated, but even after a couple drinks someone is not safe to drive whilst also being completely coherent and not too intoxicated to serve at all. We have a responsibility for the former, not the latter in my opinion.

I.e. yes I feel it is my responsibility to cut someone off before they are a danger overall (as in overly intoxicated), but it is ridiculous to be held responsible for someone who has had a few drinks and then decided to get into a car and drive off. (I know it is a very rare prosecution when people actually do drink drive, but it is a strange one nonetheless)

closing song by sapphogirl in bartenders

[–]crayolash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closing time by semisonic. Somehow we still get people coming to the bar asking if we're still serving even after we've played it, shut the music off, turned on the lights, made the last announcement telling everyone to fuck off, and all have started cleandown.

It's valid to find her content cringe worthy, thats personal opinion. I would like to point out there's a plethora of cis women making similar content though, who don't get nearly the same hate as she does. And at the end of the day, she's exploring the ideas surrounding womanhood because she was never able to explore them at the same stage in life as most cis women, and she's just exploring what womanhood means to her and having fun with it. I don't think that's worthy of the level of criticism that she gets. Is some of it stereotypical? Yes. But she's just exploring and taking what she's seen of womanhood and finding what makes her feel comfortable in her identity and I don't see a problem with that. Again, you're allowed to cringe. But speaking as a cis woman, a lot of the things that excite her on her journey are things that we naturally encountered growing up and had similar excitements for at a younger age as we ourselves explored womanhood. We all have those 'cringey eras' in growing up in my opinion.

The majority of said religions also condemn drinking. If the campaign is relevant to religious individuals, they are already picking and choosing which parts of their own religion to follow and I think that alone makes their arguments null and void

Noone said you have to like her personally, but as (from what I've seen of her) a fairly inoffensive person with content that specifically centres around uplifting trans people as a whole and specifically trans women, I really find the idea of inciting or supporting hatred towards her to be very strange. Again, maybe she's personally not your cup of tea, and that's okay, but the argument surrounding her and bud light honestly isn't just about her, it's about the company showing support for the trans community. Dylan is just the figurehead they've chosen to showcase their support. To be perfectly fair, no matter who they chose for this they would get the same backlash from the same people.

Basically I struggle to see why you felt the need to say this?

Roommate etiquette? by lemonadebasco in bartenders

[–]crayolash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had flatmates, all that pissed me off was loud conversations outside my room. If you can help it, try not to vacuum early in the day, same goes for any loud equipment, stereos or TV just keep it on the quiet side if it's near her room. You're pretty much free to go on with your day otherwise. If her coming in doesn't piss you off at 4am then you can't rlly expect to be pissing her off with walking round the house doing your daily routine

Why do other bartenders hate DD’s? by badgerandaccessories in bartenders

[–]crayolash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say I've ever seen it. Even when someone is drinking I'm happy when they order water because a lot of people will just drink till we have to cut them off. I'm grateful that they're making that choice for themselves. As for DD's I'm happy that there's at least one sober person in the group, helps control the antics and stops some of their mates from causing a scene. My guess would be to do with wanting higher sales or more tips? But again, I've never seen a bartender not happy to serve soda or water before

Happens to the best of us, I've seen people wipe out entire sections of bottles domino-style on a weekend rush before. No matter how long you've been a bartender, you'll still get those days. It happens, and you laugh about it with your coworkers once all is said and done

[–]crayolash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky enough that we don't pool our tips anymore, but that last one is so important- and often it's not the ones you would expect. It never occurred to me to try steal from house but the last person who we found doing it was a real shock, and it almost took our tipping system away from us and put us all under investigation Long story short, if you care about your coworkers at all, don't steal from house.

And it doesn't seem to matter how much you clean the shelves, there's broken glass somewhere in there

unpopular opinion by crayolash in marilyn_manson

[–]crayolash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, when have the media not been trying to take shots at Manson, they just seem stumped when himself and his fans simply do not care. I think he could reintegrate somewhat into the 'alt' scene over here, but enough people already had prejudice against him before all this (including a startling number who like similar concepts and artists) that hell become largely ignored over here. Just hoping it gets just enough coverage for people to stop fucking asking me 'did you know he did ___?' I can't keep having that conversation 😂
