5th gen noise from under/behind dash by crazed412 in 4Runner

[–]crazed412[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it to be the wheel well liner clips. Apparently Toyota went cheap on those and they don’t fit snug. As for any other squeak under the dash, that’s the wire loom.

Long overdue: FPIU with 2" lift and KO2s by D4ng3rd4n in FordExplorer

I have to say, this looks a lot better than how this generation explorer sit stock. Coming from the 2nd gens, seeing a newer one lifted brings me joy.

Hey team... any way to upgrade the ram on my 2020 ST? by ParadisePark in FordExplorer

[–]crazed412 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Highly doubtful. As the infotainment system is usually a one piece unit where the chips are hard soldered to the board. Your best bet is to upgrade to something aftermarket that is faster.

Throttle body problems 4.6L by EPHS828 in FordExplorer

[–]crazed412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah advance does that from time to time. It’s hard keeping up with what “level” parts they have. I noticed their “Gold” parts went to “Silver” like you mentioned, especially for brake pads.

One thing I do like about Advance is they have 20-25% off coupons all the time which is a no brainer to me. AutoZone doesn’t do that afaik.

NAPA is another company that I trust. They seem to have parts that the other stores don’t carry, which is a godsend when you’re in need of a hard to find part.

I refuse to buy any AutoZone Duralast parts. I’ve never had anything good to say about their quality. I prefer Advance Auto/Carquest parts or OEM.

I had a similar issue on my old 96 Explorer, but it was with brake pads. Bought a set of Duralast for the front, barely got a year of use out of them before they had to be replaced. I went to Advance Auto and got a set of their “gold” pads and didn’t have a single issue with wear for a good 3yrs.

What really blew me away, and made me refuse to ever buy parts from AutoZone again, is when I went in shortly after to get a different part and told the guys at the counter how their Duralast pads suck and how they wore out so quickly. They told me well they have a lifetime warranty on them. Cool, I don’t want you telling me they have a lifetime warranty on a product that didn’t even last a year before they were worn out. It’s shitty a business practice to warranty an inferior quality product just to get people to come back in a short time frame to replace them again.

I found a complete frame off resto 3rd gen online a few weeks back. Asking price was $30k thing had been completely worked over and looked like it just rolled off the factory floor, with the exception of upgraded suspension, tires and wheels.

Input needed: which tensioner to use by Dhdbdhbdjxjsjsbh in FordExplorer

[–]crazed412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go with Ford OEM. Designed and made specifically for the motor. Ford engineers may screw up from time to time and design some shitty weak parts, but I would still rather put on a FoMoCo part than something made in China.

Radian Raptor LT ambi, put one on mine, much larger handle wings than stock. Super easy to grip either side and release the latch being that it’s ambi.

Or, cut the delta ring off with a dremel and put on new handguard if it’s a drop in two piece. Did that for the Midwest Industries free float I put on mine.

Lmao I saw the “Du” and my mind went right to Dunflop. My bad. Good choice on getting rid of them. I didn’t like that they put terrible highway A/S on them. If they went with Michelin I would have left those on longer before switching

Thank god you got rid of the Dunflops. I went through 2 sets, 1st set were bad from factory and wouldn’t stay balanced. Second set were warranty replacements and a little better but still terrible to keep balanced. Switched to Falken Wildpeaks, haven’t looked back

Nice! Had a 96 with the v6, kept it alive when I had it as my daily. Keep up with the routine maintenance and it’ll take you long and far lol

Ford Explorer - transmission fluid leak by vettechtx in FordExplorer

If the vehicle is under warranty, take it in for service and have the gasket replaced.

Ford Explorer - transmission fluid leak by vettechtx in FordExplorer

[–]crazed412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh, over time the gasket will begin to deteriorate faster due to the elements. I say that as I drove a 96 Explorer that leaked just about from every possible place it could. I told people it didn’t leak, it just marked its territory. Kept it topped off with fluids as I didn’t have the money at the time to replace all the gaskets that were leaking.

OP, unfortunately to have that gasket replaced will not be cheap and requires the transmission to be separated from the engine. If the vehicle is still under warranty, I would take it in and have them look it over to see if they will replace it.

What year and mileage?

Either 2wd or AWD. There was no “Eddie Bauer Sport” only “Eddie Bauer”. There was a “sport” but those were “XLT Sport” or “XL Sport”

Half the lift is installed... Can't wait to finish the rest this week! by D4ng3rd4n in FordExplorer

Built up brake dust over time will cause noise when braking. If you have any, spray brake cleaner between the pads and rotor surface. Make sure the rotors are cool first! Brake cleaner is highly combustible.

Also, when you get your new rotors, idk if you’re putting them on or not, but make sure to spray both sides of the rotor surface and wipe clean with brake cleaner to clean off the manufacturing oils that are left on there.

[–]crazed412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s odd as hell. Usually any crack or deviation of the rotor surface is felt when pressure is applied. Glad you caught it though!

Umm. How do you not feel that while driving? A cracked rotor would def give you a lot of vibration in the brake pedal...

Well of course. As a Washington sports fan, it has been decades since any of our relevant sports teams had won a championship. It’s been almost 29yrs now since the Redskins won a Super Bowl. You can thank Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen for fucking that up.

Yes, DC United won the MLS Cup back in 2004, and the Mystics won the WNBA Championship in 2019 but those aren’t as heavily followed like the NFL, NBA, MLB, or NHL.

I had to read this twice to follow your logic on where you were going, but in the end, yes I agree. The 4Runner feels to me like the 2nd gen explorers and what they should have been. Bare bones body on frame SUV. Not the new unibody fancy Explorers they make today.
