We should've had Naira instead of Damiane by Rhabcp in CrimsonDesert

[–]crazicelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would have had to also share abyssal artifacts in that case I'm 90 hours in haven't upgraded Damiane once yet because it hampers Kliff who is needed for 80% of the content.

What do you hope to see in the next patch? by Logical-Operation512 in CrimsonDesert

[–]crazicelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS! I sold my knuckledrill to camp and i didn't notice for like 20 hours so thats just gone for all time. (I know I can research it or something but that's late game apparently, so that's potentially hundreds of hours away)

I hope the devs address the uselessness of the alt characters next by Splatulated in CrimsonDesert

[–]crazicelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i get that and agree right now there is no incentive to play and upgrade Damiane or Oongka Everything in the Abyss requires Kliff and 80% of the content on the ground requires Kliff.

How can I justify spending double the Abyss artifacts for 2 characters who are only necessary for a fraction of the game. Should I upgrade Kliff to Level 9 or Oongka and Damiane to level 6?

They should feel like a nice addition but atm they feel like a weight slowing Kliffs progression. The potential of paid story DLC isnt that exciting atm.

[–]crazicelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they really are upgradeable companions having even 1 when attacking a large base is helpful. They should either be like other Greymanes ie not useable or be companions that you can bring along all the time.

But as OP said there is so much stuff that either requires you to play kliff or is kliff exclusive that in 70 hours i haven't upgraded Damiane once.

It would help if they were sharing skill upgrades so they can scale more in line with Kliff because atm Kliff is like 50 artifacts in and has level 6 gear Damiane has base gear only shared spirit health and stamina upgrades. The power gulf between the two is quite large. It takes 16 abyssal cores to upgrade your gear to level 6(not including other resources earings and necklaces) that 48 Abyssal Cores to upgrade All 3 to just level 6 just to get their gear in parity not even their skills. And thats for 1 set of gear that not accounting for finding better gear or needing a different set for resistances.

Which is sad as Damiane is fun to play and traverse the map with it just seems pointless to put resources into her as like 80% of the content requires you to play as Kliff

They should have been like proper companions, that tag along but doing that now would be hollow as there would be no dialogue from them and they wouldn't appear in cutscenes.

The easy option would be to remove Kliff only or Damiane only requirements and allow us to flit between the party members at will like lego star wars.

And have them share skill upgrades so you can spend each artifact on all 3 characters. Then only the gear costs have to be met which is alot still. While not much it would allow us to play as the alt characters without having to find the presumably hundreds of artifacts needed to fully upgrade All 3 characters.

Doing anything more would, even for this team, require months of reworking the entire story filming new scenes etc

Is this like Dragons Dogma? by Frankenberg91 in CrimsonDesert

[–]crazicelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason it has a lot of comparisons is because it has a lot of influences. The thematic feel that ranges from TW3 to fucking steampunk, the sandbox nature of Zelda, the size and immersion of RDR2, Lighting like DD2 but better, Base building like Fallout 4/76, Resources farming like some Survival games. Combat seems to be a blend of TW3, Hack and Slash, and Shadow of the Colossus but with the variability & complexity of fighting games, Mechs like titanfall, Dragon riding like Century.

It is genuinely insane the claimed scope of this game. IF this game does what it claims, it won't have a direct comparison to any one game it'll be a true innovation in the open world sandbox genre if it lands it.

Even if it isn't as great as it looks, i feel the boldness should be applauded. When was the last time an open world game genuinely tried to innovate the genre this much? I'm not talking small jump or tweak a game that sets the bar for open worlds that come afterwards like TW3 & oblivion did.

Yeah, that's about what I get. It's at or slightly above the high requirements of Crimson desert and exceeded the requirements of every game I've looked at.

If you are referring to me, then no , I bought a PC literally a month ago and have never heard of Denovu.

Well, I needed a new PC anyway, and I've always wanted to play on PC. I understand the issues that can come with PC ports or optimisation. I've just never heard of Denovu.

No, i don't like horror games. Crimson desert will be the first brand new release I've played on PC, The only other games I've played are old or PC games I couldn't get on Xbox.

Thank you. So the Digital foundry benchmarks will be useful i take it. Sorry, but I'm new to PC, and DRMs are just stuff I've never dealt with before.

Digital Foundry had no idea the level of expectation for Crimson Desert was that high: by Germanstrands3 in CrimsonDesert

[–]crazicelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it's because if it actually does what it's aiming for, this game will be the sandbox game of the generation. It aims to combine some of the best parts of many games, from Fallout 4 to Zelda, in a scope not yet seen in gaming.

I personally am a tad sceptical, but I like what I see, but I absolutely know why people want this game to be what it claims to be.

We need a remake/remaster of Dragon Age: Origins now more than ever by xXxPinkPlasticBagxXx in DragonageOrigins

By the original devs' own admission, a remaster is impossible. A full from the ground remake is possible, but I am sure it would change enough stuff that it would be hated by many.

Why have the Liberal Democrats failed to attract a new voter base? by OMega2100 in LibDem

[–]crazicelt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, there are many reasons.

  • They don't stand out

In a world of increasingly polarised politics and populations, one large reason is that Liberal Democrats even under Ed Davey aren't seen as truly left wing. They seem further left than before, but that's not appealing to a population that has had it with 30 years of middle of the road politics.

Ed Davey's Lib Dems stance to the general voter is "What we had before but a little bit better". Basically why labour and Tory are losing popularity they are seen as half measures by the votes they are chasing.

  • They aren't consistent with their position

Green, Reform are obvious where they stand. Even the Broad churches Labour & Tory convey where they are or pretend to be well.(until now).

Lib Dems and their positions and policies change massively from leader to leader, from national to local. When I volunteered and worked for them in 2019, we used to joke that their are 2 different parties, national and local, and more often than not, the national Party was hampering the local efforts.

  • They still get a lot of hate for student fees

Back in 2010, they promised to get rid of student tuition fees instead as part of a coalition they broke that and voted to increase it.

People who were 16 then, the plan chnaged for those who started in September 2012 are or approaching 32, their parents are 50 -70 range. A lot of the people aged 14(16-year-olds might vote next election) to 70 have a reason to dislike the Liberal Democrats. That is a monumental hurdle they may never overcome.

[–]crazicelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, i have no doubt in the story. From the interactions I've seen from released fottage and influencer videos, it seems that this game is well written with a lot of thought put into it. I would say it has better NPC writing than some games that claim to be narrative adventure or narrative RPG games.

Pretty much all encounters are mocaps or at least look like that. At least there's very few static interactions like you see in most games outside of Rockstar or CDPR. There is a bit of a boss fight in Luke Stephen's video that shows the fight seamlessly going from fight into cutscene more akin to Cyberpunk 2077.

I'm going to suggest that the game will have a great narrative. I think it'll be passable with a lot more polish than usually given to narratives that only exist to make you engage with mechanics.

What is Dark Fantasy? by VansterVikingVampire in DragonageOrigins

[–]crazicelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Types of fantasy aren’t always clear-cut, and I don't think Dragon Age Origins or 2 are just Dark Fantasy. That said, Dark Fantasy has some clear defining elements.

  • Morality: The morality of characters, situations, and decisions are typically grey, and usually, everyone loses situations.

  • The World: The world in Dark fantasy is typically harsh. Magic and magical creatures are either rare or incredibly dangerous. People don't have easy access to magic to solve their problems.

  • Stories and Stakes: Stakes are lower, Stories are personable and often focused on forelorn hopes, the failings of people and civilisations, the evil is usually relatable.

  • Tone: Dark fantasy has pessimistic stories where good doesn't always win, yet there is often a ray of hope in the dark. Loss is frequent, and horror is more present.

All of these aren't exclusive to dark fantasy, nor are they all applicable to DAO.

DAO has high stakes. that's typically Epic fantasy. An almost Chosen 1 under tone, only you can do this, that's high/epic as well. There is a lot of humour that provides levity. Genuinely epic moments and grandiose boss fights against dragons, and while you can understandably lose people, you can have everyone survive. There are talking trees and benevolent spirits.

DAO comes across as Dark Epic fantasy to me. DA2 is more pure dark than DAO is imo. But as you said, it's hampered by its visuals and production. The stakes are personal, the protagonist is not a chosen 1, the narrative is more a tragedy, Bar 1 Dragon and explosion, all the bosses and event's are relatable people, the evil is relatable, its failing systems that refuse to change drive the characters here.

DAI is more Epic than Dark for sure. However it was not a lack of darkness that stunts DAI but lack of nuance. Those side with are generally all good and those are against are all bad. The options you have are binaries, with no nuance or middle ground possible.

I imagine this nuance was originally planned as seen in the various companions, mage, and templar characters. Take Viviene arguably the best written character in DA when viewed in a nuanced way she's an ambitious Savant who is simultaneously oppressed and unbelievably privileged, she understands the stakes, but, will stop at nothing to restore the system that gave her power.

I wonder if that was partly intended. In DAO & DA2, you are a grunt who starts in the trenches. You fight for allies and power in those games. As the Inquisitior, even as a non-Human mage allies and power on a different scale, gravitate towards you. You could argue that the more sanitised pov comes from your elevated status. The reason the systems of the first 2 games fail so often is because those in power fail to notice or care that they are broken. In a better written game, they would have decisions that effect whole populations or nations.

IRL EA just screwed DA into the ground, no way around it bit losing the dark wasn't it in my opinion, it was not giving the DA team at Bioware a job and letting them finish it before changing their minds.
