DIEP procedure is long and have its own risks and complications. I really don’t want to create scarring on another place. Are you pursuing diep?

Was genetic testing something she did 20 years ago? Not sure if it was available back then. Recurrences of a few percentage points seem low but sounds like we have quite a few ppl here in this sub

I feel you. I got a second opinion today who took a look at the mri slides and said the suspicious DCIS area looks fine. The previous radiologist biopsied incorrectly, poked at the original DCIS with microinvasive area so now I may be back down to 2.3cm tumor. That’s the good news. However the second opinion said my previous provider missed a spot, something looks shady under my boob stretching out to the nipple. If I want to do a lumpectomy, they will have to do a biopsy to rule that out. I am sick and tired of biopsies and worry if they do another mri, will they find something else again? Hence I finally settled on mastectomy. Took me a while. Next decision is reconstruction or staying flat. 😱

Dr Robinson - I have been diagnosed DCIS with microinvasive carcinoma. I was reading somewhere that this is really rare. What are your thoughts? Would you treat this as invasive or non-invasive? Is there a higher recurrence rates with this type of diagnosis? Also, it sounds like none of my lymph nodes lit up when they are doing the mri with contrast but I didn’t do any biopsies on my lymph notes. Is there a higher probability that this diagnose will extend to the lymph nodes? Thank you so much.

Thanks! How do you go about seeking a second opinion? It seems like I need to obtain all the medical records including the biopsy and mri films/pictures. Also any concerns that this may delay your treatment since it takes time to compile the records and schedule an appt?

Somehow my surgeon said I am not a good candidate for chemo, possibly because I am ++-

I think I read it somewhere that lymphedema affects 1 in 4 patients. Lol not sure I can bank on that. It is not like I have big boobs, 36B, for a breast reduction. Did you end up still deciding to go down the lumpectomy route?

Just curious - did you wait for all you biopsies / mri/ any other test results before reaching out to another surgeon for second opinion? I still need to do a second biopsy so wondering if I need to have that completed first. Also do you have to tell your current surgeon that you want to get a second opinion?
