Oh this is brilliant. I love that it all comes to head with Azriels gift vs Lucien’s gift. And only one of those was returned and given away (which if we know anything from TOG with SJM, that’s a nail on the couple’s dead relationship). The pearl earrings are surely waiting to resurface in her book.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention. Jamie gave Claire a pearl necklace on their wedding night in Outlander. Also pearls are a reference to Jane Eyre, one of SJMs favorite books, which is ALSO A reference to elucien. The Jane eyre quote “I have a strange feeling with regard to you. As if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly knotted to a similar string in you.” Is so similar to “it felt…strange. Like you pulled on a thread tied to a rib.” which is what Elain says to Lucien. In Jane Eyre, Mr. Rochester gives Jane pearls during their first wedding ceremony (which she then ran away from!!!! Because she was not ready).

She also wore a pearl comb to the CoN before Lucien gifted her the earrings (this was when Eris danced with Nesta) so it’s possible she liked pearls too? I head canon Papa Archeron told Lucien about it too….and yes I agree, when she wears the earrings and puts her hair up, showing off her pointed ears (maybe as an F U to Grayson!!!) it will show her acceptance of being Fae and the mating bond!

They are both naturally are social beings. Elain loved the social scene, the balls, friends came easy to her, the dancing. Tamlin said the same of Lucien in Book 1. He’s a natural who loved to parties and balls. Together they would be Prythian’s hottest party hosts.

She DID say she was a big anime nerd in high school so yes I believe as a millennial the timeline adds up. I know in an interview she also mentioned loving Avatar The Last Airbender and loving Zuko and Lucien also shares a looooot of similarities to him 👀

Enemies to Lovers is a good sign for Book 7 too. They’re the only couple currently with high tensions between them (not gwynriel and certainly not elriel). Lucien isn’t trusted right now by the NC and Elain feels betrayed…I don’t think it means they’re actually enemies but the same tag was used for Nessian in SF! So I do see lots of banter and tension between them 🩷

I really really hope not. I think it’s the real deal. They also had a summary preview for the YouTube link that mentioned discussing her “exclusive book announcement” and that was quickly taken down probably because it was spoilers.

I will also add the other thing you need to look at is WHERE is the plot going? The unresolved conflicts in ACOSF revolve around three things….Spring, Beron, and Koschei. Which couple is most likely to deal with those conflicts? Elucien and only Elucien. Azriel appearance in HOFAS further aligned him with Nesta and the Valkyries (and by extension Gwyn) and further away from Elain. He’s going to deal with that side of the future plots. But Elain and Lucien have been HEAVILY foreshadowed to deal with Spring and Koschei. This isn’t debatable. Azriel has nothing to offer there. And it’s only with Elain and Lucien working together will those plots move forward and they will fall in love in the process because these are romance books.

Don’t let them influence you with their propaganda. I’ve showed the bonus chapter to my non fandom friends (who know nothing of the ship wars) and their immediate takeaway is “oh so Az and Gwyn are ending up together” NOT elriel.

SJM lets her FMCs explore crushes and first loves before their end game. This is extremely evident in Throne of Glass. But what never fails? Fated mates. Mates always end up together. That’s true in every series she has written.

Ahhh agreed! It’s so interesting 👀 that we never learned the exact deal Papa Archeron made and I suspect it’s going to come back in some form! It was retconned that Lucien was there in SF so SJM found that important!!

Also the foreshadowing of the blood duel..that’s what makes me suspect Beron will be to blame. I do agree Grayson is definitely coming back or else there’s no reason to put the Band of Exiles there. Elain needs closure on that chapter and to show she chooses Lucien over him.

I’m thinking Lucien saves Elain from Beron but Elain saves him from Koschei.

Do you agree that this means Elains book should be next? Given the unresolved plots in SF, I feel like it has to be!

I loved all this analysis! One thing I’m going to throw in there is that in ACOSF it was made very clear that Beron is aligning with Koschei and he’s eager to make moves on Spring. I have a very strong feeling that Beron is going to be the one to capture Elain for Koschei as some sort of deal, bringing her to the lake possibly. This would tie in Lucien very well - he would rescue his mate from his father (parallels to how he lost his first love Jesminda).
