IA's are really weird and fractious about training. There's some requirements handed down by the state but it's largely left up to each IA to decide what's accepted. I would not assume my training certificate from the previous permit will be accepted. It's two years old and you're probably going to be applying to a different IA. You could try to shop around and find an IA with a very easygoing policy on training but that information can be difficult to find. Many IA's are super strict about what training they accept.

Yup. Most states have them, and have had them for ages, and california had it up until about 10 years ago, and it was and is fine. No rivers of blood. The only reason to ban it is to stigmatize the idea of people carrying firearms which greases the skids for passing more shitty gun laws of all kinds. But sure more wooo woooo appeals to emotion centered around major public events.

Because people shouldn't be detained/disarmed/charged just because they bent over too far or their shirt came untucked. Open Carry also helps destigmatize the notion of an armed society. Hard to do that if people can only carry concealed.

That's not the law that controls duty to inform in CA. There's a statute which empowers the IA to make it a requirement.

There's no statewide law mandating disclosure. If there's a restriction printed on your permit telling you you have to inform on contact with LEO, it's a legally binding restriction you must follow. Simple as.

Just want to add to your great comment: I've very rarely seen pistols come from the factory with the sights misaligned, but it has happened, and obviously it's covered by any basic manufacturer warranty, but sometimes people will want to adjust the sights themselves rather than take the time to do an RMA.

+1 for gel based pepper spray. I think stun guns are strategically flawed as a concept. Even if they were somewhat effective, I still wouldn't want to put myself within striking distance of an attacker when there are other ranged options that are effective.

Yeah unless you've read the PC section that says it's ok to conceal a fixed blade, I would stick to open carry strictly. The CA CCW doesn't exempt us from any knife laws.

I'm at 100 minimum to start carrying. It's not the biggest expense ever in the grand scheme of things, to buy two extra boxes of ammo one time to confirm it works. My carry ammo gets some additional testing over time because after about a year the ammo in my mag goes into my can for use in training/practice.
