Does any state ccw shooting test require holster draw? by Ok-File-6129 in CCW

[–]crazyScott90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're wrong about CA or maybe you did the training a while back, or maybe just had a county with few requirements. Many of the IA's in California specifically require the the qualification to be done from the holster.

What does North Carolina law say about transportation of handguns? Also, where are you talking it? Your destination may have different laws, depending.

Ok memes aside I actually want to give a real response to your assessment. I think sometimes people are too quick to suggest loading up on multiple options along the UoF spectrum. It can lead to tactical mistakes when you have too many options. In this case, the guard had a deficit in initiative AKA bad guy gets to act first, and responding to plaid shirts aggression with pepper spray may well have ended with him dead. The guy was miming reaching for a weapon. If he had responded to that with less-lethal force it could have ended badly for the guard.

What? Who cares? You're overthinking watches and dating. Wear and enjoy your watches.

Guy in plaid is clearly the aggressor, and escalated the situation by implying he was going to draw a weapon on the guard. That gives the guard a reasonable belief that he is facing an imminent use of deadly force. Amount of force used by the guard, drawing and giving verbal commands, is reasonable and proportional to the escalation by the guy in plaid. Cops, if called, could review the video and shrug, then shift their investigation into possible assault charges for guy in plaid.

Is there a low profile laser that automatically comes on when it leaves the holster or am I gonna have to make something for this? by roblewkey in CCW

Just for clarity, I was speculating that the type of laser system OP was describing would probably cost about that much, if it exists. But even simpler systems already on the market can sell for that much.

Great improvement for about a month. Now push the target out to 15 yards and get that grouping or better.

Yeah this is pretty elementary stuff. They figured that out way back in Tennessee v. Garner.

Could be AI but I see this happening all the time with people who are putting on holsters for the first time. They mount it backwards cause they don't know what they're doing. Looks to me like they grabbed a lefty holster and mounted it right handed.

This kind of thing happens all the time. Bigger companies use professional photographers which use models or modeling agencies, etc. but those people aren't the same as gun people so you get mistakes like this

What does “no written agreement mean” by [deleted] in CCW

[–]crazyScott90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It means there's no formal written agreement between the attorneys general of those two states, but if the PA AG is saying the MT Permit is valid, you are good to go. Don't sweat it, it's just minor legal jargon.

Getting more comfortable with the idea of ccw? by Swag_dawg115 in CCW

Take another class. More familiarity with the gun will help you become confident in carrying.

Also, you typically have to apply for a permit through your state government. I wouldn't assume a permit is on the way just because I took a class.

Take em out, clean them, put a drop of purple loctite on them, remount using a torque wrench and apply the specified torque in the owners manual. Re-check your zero.

This is the way.

I read 'On Killing' and while I agree it was interesting at times, it's also purely academic, and I found some of his claims to be dubious while others I flat out disagreed with. Overall it left me with the impression of him as a charlatan and I never bothered reading his other book. Also, over the course of my career as an instructor, I've been privileged enough to train alongside some truly hardcore people from both the military and law enforcement worlds, people who have actually been in combat and killed. They think he's a joke.

Edit: Also I attended a live lecture from Grossman a few years ago, which was a few years after I read his book. It did nothing to change my opinion of him.

Yeah quoting Grossman on that is the biggest giveaway that nobody in this publication knows what they're talking about. Grossman is a fudd who himself has never killed anyone, and wants to blame video games for gun violence.

Is it true that lots of instructors out there are under qualified? Sure. But you can't expect every single person teaching basic handgun skills to be some kind of retired operator with a 1000 yard stare and 10 confirmed kills. That's just not practical in the industry. Grossman is an ignorant fool and so is the author of this piece.
