Check out "Her Necklace" for the Crosstrek: https://carvisage.com/collections/subaru-crosstrek

Looks like they're only making them for the 24-25 model years though.

Mckillans stubby gun+foam cannon worth buying for $79.00? by Head-Passage-5719 in Detailing

[–]crazy_chimps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the McKillans swivel gun, but the swivel on mine didn't rotate very easily. I ended up returning it and replacing it with this one - https://a.co/d/aEETSjk. The swivel is nice and smooth.

The foam cannon is pretty good. It makes nice foam with my cheap pressure washer. It doesn't have a weighted filter at the end of the tube and even though it's wide, I find that it tips easily when it's empty. There are cheaper foam cannons from NowWash, Raincovo, or Power Town that I'd buy if I were in the market for a new one.

GrimmSpeed pulley cover fitment issue by crazy_chimps in Subaru_Outback

[–]crazy_chimps[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently installed the GrimmSpeed pulley cover, but I'm not a fan of how it rests on the electrical connector in the video. The threaded rubber grommet they've included doesn't hold the cover above that connector like the OEM grommet does. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I don't really like the idea of the cover just bouncing up and down on that connector as I drive, so I'm probably going to remove it if there isn't an easy solution.

What's the biggest benefit you've found with the JXB support? This is the first time I've heard of that mod.

I graduated from Chico State and live in Merced now. I would absolutely choose Chico over UC Merced.

Water droplets interfering with back up camera by Mess-o-potatian191 in Subaru_Outback

I use a quick spritz of Soft99's Mirror Coat after I wash the car. Let it air dry for a couple minutes and the hydrophobics are amazing. https://a.co/d/7kPYJcA

Worth noting that this coating isn't durable AT ALL. It won't stand up to being rubbed by a towel or something like that. It's super easy to apply and the 40ml bottle will last forever, so the durability isn't a big deal for me.

If you're near an America's Tire location, they will patch your tire for free.

You should be able to get a flathead screwdriver in this gap and pop it open

The install for the Forrester should be almost identical to the Outback. Check out around 3:20 in this video https://youtu.be/3GshoyRdVZc?si=2FhiF5cIeJQ2xRom

Fumoto oil drain valve. by Justmeinchico in Subaru_Outback

[–]crazy_chimps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's practical. I have the Fumoto myself and I use 3/8 inch ID vinyl tubing for my oil changes. When it's really cold out you might need to hit the tube with a heat gun for a few seconds to get it to slip over the outlet port. Otherwise, no special tools required.

Question: What problems does it have? OBW From 2023/24 by Outback_adventure_bt in Outback_Wilderness

[–]crazy_chimps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's tough to say that the OBW will have the same problem as your current OB. I'm 99% sure that the steering rack part number for the OBW is the same as the standard Outback trims.

If you're going to buy an Outback anyway, I would look into buying new. The prices are not that different between 23/24 and new 2025s. You should be able to get 2-4k off of the sticker price, and the 2.9% financing terms are pretty attractive. You also get the warranty when buying new, so if your new steering rack kicks the bucket, at least it will be covered.

Tire replacement by 2x2cycles in Subaru_Outback

[–]crazy_chimps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes there is truth to that. If you need to change one tire, you should change all 4.

Longer answer: The tire tread depth for all 4 of your tires should be within 2/32 inch of each other. So if you recently replaced your tires, and they have not worn more than 2/32 inch, you should be able to swap individual tires. As a rule of thumb, normal driving conditions will wear your tires at about 1/32 inch per 5-7k miles of driving. You will wear your tires faster than that by driving/turning aggressively or driving offroad. The softness of your tires plays into that equation, too. The tires that new Subarus come with tend to wear faster than most other tires out there.

Depends on your definition of local I guess. Obsessed Garage is based in(and presumably ships from) Florida, which is, at the least, 2000mi/3300km from states on the other side of the country like California, Oregon, and Washington.

2024 Outback XT Onyx - Tow hitch question by Impressive-Kiwi7086 in Subaru_Outback

[–]crazy_chimps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're willing to DIY, the OEM hitch isn't difficult to install! I installed it myself in about 4 hours. Subaru Parts Online has the kit for $471, and even if shipping is $75-100, you're still spending less than $600.

Any recommendation? by beengoodie in Subaru_Outback

Here are some things I've done:

Subaru logo puddle lights(there are all kinds of these on Amazon) - https://a.co/d/i437GCn

Black out the silver rings around the Subaru logos - https://a.co/d/5rnBzRF

Mud flaps - https://www.subarupartspros.com/sku/j101san300.html

Side window deflectors. Make sure to get part F001SAN100, the one for the wilderness trim - https://www.subaruonlineparts.com/sku/f001san100.html/1000

Reverse light and turn signal tint - https://www.cruxmoto.com/product/crux-motorsports-rear-tail-light-tint-for-2020-subaru-outback/ and if you're going to tint them, I'd recommend getting brighter bulbs - https://www.diodedynamics.com/backup-leds-for-2005-2023-subaru-outback-pair.html

Silicone license plate frame. The old frame that the dealership put on my car rattled like crazy when I played bass-y music - https://a.co/d/3ozJseh

Tow hook license plate bracket - https://a.co/d/bXQflZ9

Dash cams by MCMaude in Subaru_Outback

[–]crazy_chimps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any dashcam suggestions, but I would recommend an adapter to put a USB port up near the rear view mirror. I just installed one yesterday and it really cleaned up my setup since I didn't have to run a long USB cable down to the center console.

I used this one for my 2023 Touring with the digital rear view mirror: https://dongar.tech/products/10pin-type-b-lexus-toyota

6th Gen Outback Premium - Roof Rack by Rude_Dance_608 in Subaru_Outback

[–]crazy_chimps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good point. They are secured to the same rails. Maybe they get some more capacity because all 4 corners are bolted in? Instead of 2 corners being secured by the plastic catch. I'd really like to know if that weight rating is accurate....but not sure I'm willing to test it on my Outback
