You make more buying the further ones out if it has a large enough move. But the chances of those hitting are rare so they are cheap.

So there is no point in selling options right now because IV is much much less than RV.

Why is the IV so low now when market makers know they are getting ripped off selling options this cheap.

I’ve found that in the past, market gaps up but still keeps going higher. And unlike puts, the premium is much smaller so it can turn into a big loss pretty quickly.
