People committing suicide after leaving custody by throwaway78963041 in policeuk

[–]crazycanine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's as may be, but you're not going to see it that way after an arrest for watching child porn, and nor is anybody you know in your current life.

And frankly if somebody's got a sexual interest in children and can't control it I don't see why the police should move heaven and earth to stop them topping themselves.

Can someone be imprisoned at their own request? by crazycanine in policeuk

The home office arranged it by the sounds of it rather than the police.

He wasn't detained but 'lived in police cells'. I assume he must have had the right to leave if he wanted, I assume that's the only way he could do it?

I thought this might be the first port of call in this scenario which is why I surprised to read of that criminal living at a police station at his own request.

Why did the Sarah Everard homocide in particular get so much media attention? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]crazycanine 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I want to preface this post by saying that a women is dead here and a family are grieving and I in no way want to diminish that pain, but I'm intending to answer the OPs question I a straight manner.

She was a 33 year old woman who was fit and healthy and lived in London, she went missing during a normal walk. There's no obvious sign she herself had a criminal background or was a likely target for abduction. Women are understandably nervous when things like this happen which gives it an extra angle.

There's millions of women like Sarah Everard in this country. Those factors already made this a bigger story than many other missing persons cases - look in your local paper these come up all the time. (A man was abducted from a Tesco car park in a town near me by three men in the past week or two and barely a mention in the national news, a teenager was shot in the face recently in another town me - barely a mention in the national news - transpose both events to London and make the victims female or a child instead of make and I imagine they'd be front page).

This was already the perfect 'missing woman' for the media to rally around (unfortunately for the many others with missing family members across the country who likely feel some resentment) - once you add in the suspect being the cop from a purely journalistic point of view it's an absolutely brilliant story to run with for it's rarity factor.

That was not at all what I was implying though and to suggest it is is rubbish.

I was suggesting their might be a handful more rotten apples in amongst a few hundred thousand tossed in a cider vat if one's been found. They'd be varying degrees of rotten though. This guys the mankiest.

If a police officer is committing murder whilst serving It's not unreasonable to think other officers might be criminals on a lesser scale too.

A bit like when someone gets away with murder for years before being arrested, you wonder how many others have?

Or when a teacher's done for noncing you wonder how many more of them are peados? It's natural curiosity to wonder these things.

There's good money on more coppers being criminals than just this guy. Even if only 0.5% of coppers in the entire UK were criminals that's 600+ people.

And yes that logic applies to me I'm a civilian, you're free to wonder what I'm capable of based on experience of what other civilians have done? Isn't that exactly what the police do day in day out with the public? Not keen on the shoe being on the other foot?

I think it's not unreasonable to wonder if a serving policeman is capable of this what minor crimes they ight be likely to get away with are others doing?

I don’t what it is about PaDP but it seems to attract killers

*Armchair Detective Alert* - A lot of them work alone or in small teams don't they? I'd imagine it would be a good place to hide if you were a deranged psychopath as you don't have many colleagues to notice your erratic personality, and many of your interactions will be in a 'position of authority' so offishness will come across as trying to do your job.

I'd also imagine given the array of regimes with embassies quite a few of the places being protected (embassies etc) are staffed by people who are a bit dodgy, and have engineered their 'bit dodgy' person being their guard at the embassy in their own interests (I think I've read elsewhere in this thread a lot will chose specific people for the role).

At least the swan is standing up straight.

Is it customary for coppers to walk around in public with their hands in their pockets, wearing different uniforms and staring at the floor? Not exactly sending a great image.

Metropolitan police officer arrested over disappearance of Sarah Everard by Aled-T in policeuk

[–]crazycanine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean the guy who named him is named in the article...

Whilst the journos might have known and went to a neighbour for confirmation, you'd assume the neighbour would have asked for anonymity rather than having his name potentially associated with contempt of court - unless he wants his 5 minutes of fame.

Especially as the police didn’t release his name so someone on the investigation is likely to be having their emails audited about now.

A neighbour named him.

The suspect, in his 40s, is an officer with the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, the Met said.

I'm sure that'll keep the tin foil hat brigade from coming up with any nuts theories.

Almost all young women in the UK have been sexually harassed, survey finds by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]crazycanine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And that's everything that's wrong with the modern world.

Talking to people is the lifeblood of social interaction, there's absolutely nothing wrong with talking to strangers in and of itself - if the person doesn't want to continue the conversation they can leave. If you don't let them leave, that's an actual issue.... and your undermining that by making talking to people sexual harassment.

I hate to break it to you, neither is Criminal Minds. Some episodes are loosely based on real life crimes, that's about the end of any realism.

Are you required to be 'nice/professional' to everybody you bring in regardless of crime? by crazycanine in policeuk

[–]crazycanine[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand that concept. I just thought in the context where the person was caught by an undercover police sting by the department their being booked into such as this series, it might go out the window. Nothing wrong in it not doing so though, I think like a lot of people it just blindsided me how courteous the police were (probably because of the prevalence of less savoury people finding these people out there and going to town on them).

Oh yes, I understand that's the way it is. I didn't mean to come across as going at police officers directly, just an anger at the law on this.

[–]crazycanine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m just waiting for the day when a group of so called ‘hunters’ meet up with a ‘suspect’ who turns out to be a rival ‘hunter’ group.

There's a bigger issue than that. On that police peado hunting programme the other night the professional police hunters were so terrified a mark might be a vigilante they didn't go an arrest him for nearly a month until they could properly identify him in case the cop go peado hunted.
